Description

In the heart of the Conservation Area in Deal, Star Cottage is the most inviting seaside holiday home. Recently refurbished to a very high standard, the accommodation is spread over three floors and sleeps 6. There are many original features including brick fireplaces, wooden panelling and sash windows. There is also the most wonderful dual aspect wood burner on the ground floor to be enjoyed. Situated on quaint Middle Street, this residence was formerly a butchers and is opposite the former home of Charles Hawtrey, a charismatic British actor and comedian who appeared in many Carry On films. Star Cottage is an attractive looking late eighteenth/early nineteenth century building with white painted brickwork and pretty half-hipped tiled roof. The ground floor has a separate living room and dining room with a dual aspect wood burning stove between the two - there is a lovely log basket that is stocked with logs and kindling during the winter months - two leather armchairs are positioned to enjoy the fire. Both these two reception rooms are painted in subtle greys, featuring original wood panelled walls with a plush grey carpet underfoot. A huge window overlooks sleepy Middle Street and from the leather sofa you can watch the coming and goings of Deal residents and visitors. From the dining room with its table for 6, there is a new, well-equipped gallery style kitchen with integrated appliances that leads to a utility area with washing machine, tumble dryer, large American style fridge/freezer and w.c. There is a pretty stable door to the courtyard which captures the sunlight - enjoy a fresh coffee at the bistro table set listening to the sounds of the sea. There is a good size flat screen TV and free wifi too.

There are two spacious double bedrooms, one on the first floor and one on the second floor that boasts an ensuite as well as a flat screen tv. On the first floor there is also a family bathroom with shower over bath, wc and basin as well as a small bedroom that looks out over the courtyard garden that is home to bunk beds. The fist floor double bedroom is extremely attractive with its huge brick fireplace and two windows overlooking Middle Street - by the wooden bed are attractive bedside tables, lamps and radio. The top double has a white iron bed again with bedside tables and lamps and the most wonderful exposed beam ceiling.

Deal recently featured in the Times 30 best places by the sea and also won the accolade of the Telegraph High Street of the Year. Deal is a great base for exploring the East Kent coastline including the blue flag sandy beaches of Broadstairs and Margate. Inland, there is the UNESCO World Heritage site of Canterbury and the medieval cinque port town of Sandwich. With castles, museums, wildlife parks and gardens galore there is something for everyone.

Location description from manager

The England region

Deal is steeped in history having not one but three Tudor castles built by Henry VIII, namely Deal, Walmer and Sandown. The first two you can visit and Sandown (only a few stones remain) is on the cycle path that follows the coast. Deal has a town motto of “Adjuvate Advenas” which for those not familiar with Latin is translated into “Befriend a Stranger” – perfect for those wanting to be made welcome on a self-catering holiday to Deal or short break! For the historians, Deal is mentioned in the Doomsday book, but evidence suggests its history goes back much further. Julius Caesar is said to have landed on the Deal-Walmer coast in 55 and 54 BC. Deal is one of the Cinque Ports and has been important in the defenses of south east England throu
