Location description from owner
The England region
The Peak District provides opportunities for many types of outdoor activity. An extensive network of public footpaths and numerous long-distance trails (over 3000 km in total), as well as large open-access areas, are available for hillwalking and hiking. Bridleways are commonly used by mountain bikers, as well as horse riders. Some of the long-distance trails, such as the Tissington Trail, re-use former railway lines; they are much used by walkers, horse riders and cyclists. The Park authorities run cycle hire centres at Ashbourne, Parsley Hay and Ladybower Reservoir. Wheelchair access is possible at several places on the former railway trails, and cycle hire centres offer vehicles adapted to wheelchair users. There is a programme to make footpaths more accessible to less-agile walkers by replacing climbing stiles with walkers' gates. The many gritstone outcrops, such as Stanage and the Roaches, are recognised as some of the finest rock climbing sites in the world (see: rock climbing in the Peak District). The Peak limestone also provides many testing climbs. Some of the area's large reservoirs (for example, Carsington Water) have become centres for water sports, including sailing, fishing and canoeing, in this most landlocked part of the UK.
Darley Moor is in a secluded position on the edge of Two Dales in the Derbyshire Dales, not far from the lovely market town of Matlock and Bakewell. With bridle ways going right past the door, there is direct access to the local countryside. A short drive away are the stately homes of Chatsworth and Haddon Hall and famous beauty spots including Dove Dale, Lathkill Dale and Monsal Dale.

“Everything here for a perfect country cottage holiday”
Homely, quaint & olde worlde. Fitted to perfection and newly decorated. The log burner made for very cosy evenings by the fire. Chickens and hens run freely so the eggs are really fresh plus we even helped with lamb feeding. We have really enjoyed our stay with many thanks to our hostess Shelley. She was always at hand with help, advice and with answers to all our questions which required good local knowledge. Thank you Shelley we will be back.
We had a lovely time in Matlock Bath and thought Woodside Farm was just perfect. It has all the essentials needed for a trip including kitchen ware and bedding. There are a number of shops 5 mins drive from the cottage and we even had a curry delivered on our last evening so remote enough for peace and tranquillity but close enough for all the essentials.
“A great location for our holiday with our grandaughters, aged 5 and 6”
The cottage was situated in a great location and was very cosy and well equipped. The girls loved collecting the eggs with Shelley and playing with Zebra, their very friendly cat. Although only 5 and 7 we were able to give them lots of freedom to play outside due to the quiet location of the cottage. Darley Dale is a brilliant centre for exploring the Derbyshire countryside and we went out and about every day, including to Poole's Cavern in Buxton (the girls were able to go on a mini Go Ape here!), the Otter Sanctuary, Matlock Bath, Bakewell, etc. Our only disappointment was that it was too cold to BBQ in the evening, but clearly that was just one of those things.
“would be very happy to stay there again”
Very friendly and helpful host. The cottage was in a lovely location and had all the amenities necessary for our stay. The cooked breafasts were great. Very good local pub for evening meals.
Superb cottage in a lovely , very quiet rural setting. Only 5 minutes by car to Matlock & there's absolutely loads of walks and places to visit within an hours drive, including the Chatsworth estate. Lots of good places to eat nearby but the fully equipped kitchen has everything you could ever need to cook yourself. The owners are extremely friendly and were very helpful, to the point of lending me an ordnance survey map for Dovedale. I would definately stay here again!
“Dog friendly cottage”
A very good place for our party of 3 ladies plus one Golden Retriever. We each had a space of our own at night as I made use of the bed settee in the cosy living room which meant I kept an ear open for doggie at night in kitchen. Lovely new kitchen with all essentials and importantly, easy to clean floor!Great if you want door step walks into woods but in my case a bit of enclosed garden would have been helpful too, for letting dog just sit and admire nature! Not a problem really just more trips down the lane for me. We were visiting relatives just down the road but wanted independence and no stress with the dog! This fitted the bill and would use again. Very helpful owner.
“Relaxing weekend away from it all”
I have stayed at many cottages in the past and this has got to be one I have stayed in for the size of group. This is well placed for the Matlock and surrounding areas. This cottage can sleep 6 adults comfortably if using the sofa bed. The cottage feels like a home away from home as it has all the bit and pieces you need and has proper central heating. Will be booking again if in a small group if in the area again.
“Fabulous, peaceful cottage with a lot of character”
It was a last minute booking, the owner Shelley was very accommodating and welcoming. We loved how peaceful and out the way the cottage was, it had beautiful views and we would very much like to return at some point in the near future! You are not very far from anything; towns, walks, biking routes and Shelley provides information for everything you could want to do.
“Lovely farm cottage away from it all”
Lovely upgraded cottage which was comfortable & with a well fitted out kitchen ideal for a couple with 2 children. Friendly landlady meets and greets...very impressed. Matlock only 3 miles away with plenty to see and do. Looking forward to returning soon.
The cottage has everything that we needed for a break away. It was clean and the beds were comfortable. The cottage is situated in stunning scenery and set right on a cycle/walking track into a gorgeous forest. The owner of the house was cheerful and helpful. It was excellent value for money and we will be returning.
