Welcome to The Old Cowshed

The Old Cowshed is situated in the centre of the Dale peninsula up a private drive and as its name suggests was once the Cowshed at the Butterhill estate in St Ishmaels. The spot is utterly tranquil and genuinely far from the maddening crowd. It has been lovingly renovated and is now a stunning living space with a central living area open to oak A frames , a minstrels gallery, three double bedrooms all en suite, underfloor heating throughout, a boot room for discarding muddy boots and even a wet room for washing down the dogs. There is a large breakfast kitchen with doors opening to the secluded and totally private rear garden with patio containing a large table and chairs.

There are TV's in both the Kitchen and Lounge and a ferocious large wood burning stove (free logs all year). There are no additional charges for fuel or pets.

We supply all linen, towels and even hairdryers!

Internet connectivity and land line telephone are also available.

It's central position on the Dale peninsula makes it ideal for visiting all parts of Pembrokeshire as we are equidistant between St Davids in the north and Tenby in the south. For families with young children, the attractions of Oakwood, Folly Farm, Pembroke Castle, Castel Henllys and the Dinosaur Park are within easy driving distance.

The immediate area is home to some of Pembrokeshire's best beaches such as Marloes, West Dale, Little Haven, Broad Haven, Druidstone and Newgale. It is also just three miles from St Martins Haven - the tiny ferry port for catching a ferry to Skomer Island - a world renowned bird sanctuary with one of the most significant populations of puffins in the UK. We are also fortunate to have a genuine micro climate in that Dale is reputed to have more hours of sunshine than any other village in Wales. We regularly experience blue sky's and sunshine in Dale when it is grey and overcast just ten miles inland.

Dale itself provides ample opportunities for dinghy sailing, surfing and kayaking. There are regular boat trips visiting off shore islands or for those who want to try their hand at fishing. The nearest village is St Ishmaels which is about 3/4 mile away. This has a pub - The Brook and also provides access to the Gann estuary- which is home to many varieties of wading birds. Dale and Little Haven just 2.5 miles away in either direction.

There are super pubs and eating houses in both Dale and Little Haven. Check out the Griffin in Dale, and the Swan, Castle and St Brides Inn in Little Haven Haven for great food and atmosphere.

The property is suitable for disabled persons and the elderly. The en-suite bedroom on the ground floor is level with the lounge and the kitchen. There are three steps down to Boot Room but no need to use this room save for storage and dog washing facilities! There is one step up from the driveway to the lounge door and one step down from the kitchen door to the rear patio.

Getting around

Pembrokeshire has a coastal bus service called The Puffin Shuttle. This travels along the caost road stopping off at many of the coastal villages and is a great way of seeing Pembrokeshire without the hassle of driving.

Although we live in another barn on the estate, we aim not to intrude upon our guests and therefore you are assured total privacy as we employ a fairly 'hands off; approach although we are always available if any issues arise.

House rules

If Guests are bringing dogs, we would be grateful if they would confine their dog (s) to the rear garden and not let them out the front unless they are on a lead. The rear garden is large and entirely dog proof; if dogs are let out the front and are off the lead, there is a risk they will go into the ajoining field and get injured by loose horses.

We have stayed here for the last two February half term holidays and have already booked for Feb 2019. It’s our most favourite holiday cottage ever! The cottage is perfect for us in every way: it is spacious, comfortable, dog friendly, toasty warm and feels like home in so many ways. It has everything we could need, and a whole lot more. I can’t honestly think of anything that we needed that wasn’t provided. The garden is secure for our two lively dogs, the downstairs shower room is perfect for washing them off after long walks on the empty beaches. The log burner gives instant and ferocious heat, perfect in February though to be honest with the underfloor heating we didn’t really need it. The location is ideal for local beaches, Marloes Sands, Musslewick Bay and Druidstone beaches are our favourites, all within 10-20 mins drive. In February we have them all to ourselves, even during half term. I can’t really comment on local places to eat, the Old Cowshed is a perfect hideaway from the world and we make the most of the peace, quiet and tranquility of the cottage and its surrounding area. Thank you Barbara for letting us enjoy your little slice of heaven every year!

“Fabulous cottage”

We loved the cottage so much it was relaxing just being there! Tucked away in a quiet spot with everything you could possibly need! The bathrooms were luxurious and there were 7 sofas! Kitchen was huge! Even a sofa in there! The bed we slept in was very comfortable with another sofa in the room! The garden was a lovely size with a beautiful view - our dogs thoroughly enjoyed their stay too! We would love to visit again sometime! Thank you so much to the owners for making this place so special

“Lovely conversion set in perfect location for visiting area”

We stayed here 2nd week in July with our 4year old son. It was a perfect setting for us for break away. Accommodation is truly 1st class with 2 ensuite twins and a master with ensuite with views over the nearby fields, peaceful and bliss. It is also in a good position for exploring Pembrokeshire. We visited Tenby, Pembroke Castle and for my son Folly Farm and Oakwood theme park all within a reasonable drive away. Marloes beach nearby is a must and spent a lovely day there. Would most certainly recommend this accommodation.
