Description from owner

Welcome to The Old Cowshed

The Old Cowshed is situated in the centre of the Dale peninsula down a private drive and as its name suggests was once the Cowshed at the Butterhill estate in St Ishmaels. The spot is utterly tranquil and genuinely far from the maddening crowd! It has been lovingly renovated and is now a stunning living space with a central living area open to oak A frames beams, a minstrels gallery, three double bedrooms all en suite, underfloor heating throughout, a boot room for discarding muddy boots and even a wet room for washing down the dogs. There is a large breakfast kitchen with doors opening to the secluded and totally private rear garden with patio containing a large table and chairs.

There are TV's in both the kitchen and Lounge, a ferocious and large wood burning stove (free logs all year).

We supply all linen, towels and even hairdryers!

Internet connectivity and land line telephone are also available.

It's central position on the Dale peninsula makes it ideal for visiting all parts of Pembrokeshire as we are equidistant between St Davids in the north and Tenby in the south. For families with young children, the attractions of Oakwood, Folly Farm, Pembroke Castle, Castel Henllys and the Dinosaur Park are within easy driving distance.

The immediate area is home to some of Pembrokeshire's best beaches such as Marloes, West Dale, Little Haven, Broad Haven, Druidstone and Newgale. It is also just three miles from St Martins Haven - the tiny ferry port for catching a ferry to Skomer Island - a world renowned bird sanctuary with one of the most significant populations of puffins in the UK. We are also fortunate to have a genuine micro climate in that Dale is reputed to have more hours of sunshine than any other village in Wales. We regularly experience blue sky's and sunshine in Dale when it is grey and overcast just ten miles inland.

Dale itself provides ample opportunities for dinghy sailing, surfing and kayaking. There are regular boat trips either to visit off shore islands or to go fishing. The nearest village is St Ishmaels which is about 3/4 mile away. This has a pub - The Brook and also provides access to the Gann estuary- which is home to many varieties of wading birds. Dale and Little Haven just 2.5 miles away in either direction.

There are super pubs and eating houses in both Dale and Little Haven. Check out the Griffin in Dale and the Swan in Little Haven Haven for great food and atmosphere.

The property is suitable for disabled persons and the elderly. The en-suite bedroom on the ground floor is level with the lounge and the kitchen. There are three steps down to Boot Room but no need to use this room save for storage and dog washing facilities! There is one step up from the driveway to the lounge door and one step down from the kitchen door to the rear patio.

The Pembrokeshire region

Pembrokeshire is a magical county, it is remote and very beautiful and the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park was recently voted the second best coastal destination in the world by National Geographic. There are stunning beaches and offshore islands to visit including Skomer, Skokholm, Caldey and Ramsey. You can surf, sail, kayak, cliff jump, go coasteering, horse riding fishing and lots more. Close by is Dale where there are training courses in all coastal sports for adults and children. It is a true coastal gem with over 180 miles of coastal cliff path. In Spring and Summer the lanes and paths are ablaze with wild flowers. You can paddle in the sea, try your hand at windsurfing, go crabbing in the rock pools. In Winter, you will walk the beaches in solitude with just the crashing of the waves and the calls of the sea birds for company. Return to The Old Cowshed to a roaring log fire, a hot bath and perhaps a tipple if it takes your fancy! Pembrokeshire also boasts the wonderful Presceli Mountains from where the stones for Stonehenge are believed to have been hewn and the tranquil very beautiful Gwaun Valley, an ancient valley home to streams, fauna and woodland where New Year (Hen Galan) is celebrated on 13 January!

Dale

It is home to the most stunning beaches. Close by is Marloes Sands where Snowwhite and the Huntsman was recently filmed. Also near is West Dale, St Brides, Little Haven, Broadhaven, Druidstone and Newgale. Skomer Island - home to a vast puffin and manx shearwater population is also close by with the embarkation point only ten minutes drive away at Martins Haven. Little Haven with its bustling pubs and restaurants (in Summer!) is equally close as is Dale a center for water sports including windsurfing and Kayaking. A visit to St Davids - the smallest (and prettiest!) city in the UK is a must with its magnificent Cathedral and Bishops Palace. There is lots to do for both adults and children, castles to explore (e.g Pembroke, Carew, Manobier), Childrens' parks (Folly Farm and Oakwood) numerous boat trips from sedate fishing in St Brides bay to exhilarating excursions on rigid inflatables out to the off shore islands. Tenby is not far away for a traditional day out in a seaside town with a fascinating history dating back to the middle ages.

“Lovely conversion set in perfect location for visiting area”

Reviewed 22 Jul 2013

We stayed here 2nd week in July with our 4year old son. It was a perfect setting for us for break away. Accommodation is truly 1st class with 2 ensuite twins and a master with ensuite with views over the nearby fields, peaceful and bliss. It is also in a good position for exploring Pembrokeshire. We visited Tenby, Pembroke Castle and for my son Folly Farm and Oakwood theme park all within a reasonable drive away. Marloes beach nearby is a must and spent a lovely day there. Would most certainly recommend this accommodation.
