Location description from owner

The Nouvelle-Aquitaine region

Peaceful rural retreat in Limousin Perigord national park, close to the Dordogne but much prettier. Chestnut woods and paths, deer, wild boar. No light polution so sit and watch the stars and the milky way appear whilst sitting on the swing seat with a glass of wine.

Brantome is known as the venice of the Dordogne and is about 45 minutes away. Canoeing along the river through the old town or boat trips and ducks to feed. Perigeueux has cathedral and roman remains, interesting old town and cafes and restaurants, and shops.
Preserved Limousin village at Montrol Senard - no charge - about 40 mins away
Oradour sur Glane where the Germans massacred the inhabitants. The village has been left as it was. Very moving.
Arnac Pompadour, horse racing and chateau of Madame Pompadour. 1 1/4 hrs away.
Car racing around the ramparts at Angouleme in mid September.
Limoges, porcelain museum and museum of the Resistance.
Bergerac pretty medieval town by the river with wine museum and lots of cafes.

Cussac

Historical area with many connections with Richard the Lionheart, follow the route de Couer de Lion visiting the castles and landmarks. There is lots of information and leaflets at the cottage.
Good for cycling, both road and off road cycling. Very little traffic. Easy walking and also cycling or walking on a "green " route old railway line.
Castle at Montbrun 10 mins away. Chateau de Brie 5 mins or 1 mile to walk.
Various fetes and celebrations throughout July and August in villages close by. Rural crafts and dancing and music.
Weekly evening barbecues in local towns to support the local producers. Buy your meat and queue to have it cooked. Live music and dancing.
Firework displays in July and August all for free. Need to check out posters locally.
Rochechouart - large castle and twisted spire church. Meteorite hit this area and there is a small but interesting museum.
