Location description from owner

Northern Ireland region

Northern Ireland is largely unspoilt with much countryside and attractive coastal areas. Being a small place it is all within easy reach. The city of Belfast is approximately one hour's drive from Cushendall – there is also a bus service to Belfast from Cushendall and train service from nearby Ballymena (accessible by bus). Belfast has a wide range of shopping and visitor attractions such as Titanic Belfast and the Ulster Museum. The Glens of Antrim is an area of outstanding beauty in North Antrim consisting of nine glens (or valleys) that spread out from the Antrim Plateau to the coast. Each Glen has its own unique beauty and character. The main towns and villages in the Glens are Ballycastle, Cushendun, Cushendall, Waterfoot, Carnlough and Glenarm. The area is largely a farming area where sheep farming is predominant due to the hilly nature of the terrain. Fishing is also still a way of life for some in the small villages and harbours dotted along the North Antrim coast. Cushendall is situated on the Antrim Coast Road/Causeway Coastal Route which is rated as one of the world's great road journeys with stunning scenery and many historic attractions. A section of the Giro D'Italia cycle race was staged on the Antrim Coast Road in 2014.

Cushendall

Cushendall is set in middle of the Glens of Antrim and every year in August has a week-long local festival called the 'Heart of the Glens' festival with a large programme of events that attract many visitors to the village. The village has a good selection of restaurants and pubs such as Harrys Restaurant where you can sample fresh local seafood and McCollams Bar and Restaurant (also known as Johnny Joes), a very traditional Irish pub and venue for Irish traditional music sessions. The village has a beach, golf course, GAA hurling and camogie club, sailing and boating club. The area is steeped in history with many historical landmarks such as the Curfew Tower in the middle of the village, the nearby Layde Churh Yard dating back to the 14th century and the distinctive ruins of Red Bay Castle overlooking the road between Cushendall and Waterfoot.

The Glens of Antrim and Causeway Coast areas include a number of Game of Thrones film locations such as Cushendun Caves, Murlough Bay and Ballintoy Harbour.

“Warm cosy and not far for a walk either to town or beach”

Reviewed 27 Oct 2016

Furniture a bit tired but warm and cosy with all facilities. Beds very comfortable slept like a log with lovely sea air to breathe.

Thanks for your comments - glad you enjoyed your stay.
