Set in the beautiful South East of Southern Ireland, with unspoilt sandy beaches which stretch for miles along the coastline, recently featured in the 2016, Oscar nominated move "Brooklyn " and previously in 1998 "Saving Private Ryan". The Dunes is a traditional 300 year old cob cottage set in its own ground just the other side of the Sandy dune, with the sea 70 steps away from the front gate!
Ballinesker beach is a long sandy beach north of Curracloe, about 15 minutes drive from Wexford. It is a noted beach for bird watching and its fine white sand is rich in seashells. Ballinesker is one of the only beaches in North Wexford that roads runs parallel to the beach. It easily accessible for older people and disabled community.
The Beach is a 3 mile section of a long stretch of sandy coastline extending from the Special Area of Conservation at the Raven Point to Ballyconniger Head, which is approximately 10 miles long. The Beach has an easterly aspect overlooking Wexford Bay and the Irish Sea and is bordered on the west by a line of sand dunes.

The cosy thatched cottage has a living room with satellite TV, WIFI, log burner. Master bedroom with beamed roof. Second Bedroom with double bed and single bed. Kitchen breakfast rooom. Toilet/shower room with power shower. Hall area with log burner. Extensive gardens with outside shower for washing down after the beach. Bikes, wind surfboard available.

“Wonderful cottage - beautiful dunes and beaches right on your doorstep”
We stayed with two little children (2 and 6) and had a wonderful time! Although it was already too cold to take advantage of the big garden, we cuddled up in front of the open fire place every evening and enjoyed the cosy atmosphere of this lovely cottage. The cottage is full of beautiful details plus DVDs, games and books. It has everything you need. We also made a lot of day trips around County Wexford and there are plenty of places to visit. We will definitely come again!

“Holiday at The Dunes, Ballinesker”
We arrived at the cottage on Saturday ready for a week holiday and was greeted by Mary the caretaker who gave us a brief tour of the cottage and its facilities. There is also a book with information in case you are not able to absorb all the information. We have never stayed in a thatched cottage and were pleasantly surprised at its character and facilities, containing everything you need to enjoy a week away, including indoor games to keep the kids entertained in the evening. The cottage contained a utility room so we were able to wash clothes. The garden is lovely and spacious and the kids enjoyed playing in it after a day at the beach (weather permitting of course!). We cannot fault the location of the the cottage, being about 10ft from the dunes of Ballineskar beach which has got to be the best beach in Ireland. The beach was quiet and was perfect for everything from taking a stroll, swimming or running. The weather was not perfect but close to it and we were able to enjoy most days outside. In terms of local amenities, we used Blackwater (about 5-10 min drive) which contains shops, a takeaway and pubs. We would recommend the cottage / location to others and are already missing the cottage.

“a beautiful cottage in an ideal location”
We had a blissful week in the Dunes Ballinesker. The cottage is the perfect place for young children with access to the beach just across the road. The cottage has a real charm and is so well equipped with a contained garden and movies for every genre. Mary the caretaker was very friendly and helpful and the little touches including the blanket box made it very special.

“Sun, sand, seashells and a very cozy cottage - pure recreation!”
We very much enjoyed our stay at The Dunes. The hosts thought of everything a family might need or enjoy during their holidays. From postcards to dvds for children, from electric heaters to knitting books, from a radio to a fully equipped kitchen, from a maritime bathroom to toilet paper - we didn´t miss a thing.

“A little gem behind the Dunes :D”
This was out 3rd time staying at this little cottage and we absolutely loved it, once again! It's such a treat being literally 10 paces up the dune from Ballinesker beach, which is a safe and immaculate blue flag beach. All and any shop/restaurant you might need is also only 10-15min drive away in Wexford town.The beautiful cottage itself has also seen some improvements this year and myself, husband and two young children felt completely at home there. Something which I welcomed was the lack of phone reception and optional internet - which I opted out of :D ... (but if you do need GUARANTEED reception here's a tip: place your phone on the ledge of the first sash window in the sitting room, you can then also answer phone calls on speaker phone.) This little cottage is a genuine piece of Irish history and is one in a million in terms of its accommodation type and location. We would definitely recommend a visit !

“Great Escape at the Dunes”
Stayed at the magical 'Dunes' cottage in March and the weather was kind to me and the family which made the experience one to remember. The cottage is of the period and very clean with everything having a place and function. The romance of the nicely appointed rooms, and lovely fire in the lounge made the time spent indoors very special as the kids played board games, watched movies and surfed the net with the excellent Wi-Fi. With the beach literally on your front step it made it very easy to keep the kids entertained and on the dunes (lovely white sand 30ft high and full of adventure for children) they found great adventure. For myself and my wife we really enjoyed the unspoilt 8km of sand for walks and fresh air. Overall a lovely place to unwind and relax, with the lovely village of Curracloe nearby with choice of places to eat & drink (the hotel is family friendly and provides good food and choice for all), I would recommend a stay for a romantic getaway or a family activity weekend!!
