We produce our own beef, lamb, pork, eggs, vegetables and fruit. All of which is available to buy at Mackenzie's Farm Shop and to eat at our Café. We also source local produce and gifts in our shop and give guests a discount voucher as a thank you for staying with us.

Cunningsburgh

The peace and quiet is what all our guests comment on! There are only the sounds of birds and animals going about their daily routines plus the sounds of the nearby sea.

Our Lodges are at the end of our own private track and look out over open croft land with views to the sea.

In Cunningsburgh there is a Farm Shop & Café serving local produce, gifts plus lots more. We have beaches, walks, churches a community hall and are near the bus routes.

“Charming lodge and lovely people”

Reviewed 3 Oct 2016

Nortower lodges (there are two) are situated about 10 miles out of Lerwick, pretty much in the middle between Lerwick and Sumburgh airport. The lodge we stayed in was spotlessly clean, light and airy, and well-kitted out. The owners, Hazel and Kenneth, went out of their way to be helpful. Hazel and family's beautiful knitwear is on display and for sale also. The lodge sleeps four (one double and one twin room). The bedrooms are quite small and the rest of the living space is open plan, so bear this in mind if you like your own space - I found it fine for two people, but more would have felt too much for me. Access to the lodge is via a private track. This is fine for cars, but I doubt it would be navigable with a wheelchair. (And Shetland is hilly in any case ). The lodge itself is mostly open plan and on one level, so might be manageable for some people with disabilities, though it is not specifically adapted. The lodges are very close to the bus route. Buses are regular (though infrequent) and cheap. However, you will get the most from your stay if you have a car. Our mistake was to plan to cycle for recreation and transport. This might have been possible elsewhere in the U.K., but the wind on Shetland has to be experienced to be believed - even on a good day, there was a very tough headwind. Fit club cyclists will manage to ride (and the scenery is definitely worth it), but bear in mind that the nearest supermarket is in Lerwick...
