Description from owner

Description

Le Maubec is a beautifully restored ancient farm cottage which is over 200 years old. Sitting in open countryside yet just a short distance from the charming village of Allemans du Dropt. The cottage is rural, but not isolated. It is very well presented with two double bedrooms (one ensuite) and one twin bedroom. There is a lovely beamed lounge with dining area and a well equipped kitchen, which will appeal to the keen cook! The kitchen leads onto a south facing terrace for alfresco dining which overlooks the 12X5m private pool with roman steps. There is a second dining terrace overlooking the pool and garden which is shaded, and has a large stone built BBQ. The cottage stands in around 1 acre of level gardens with trees and lawns.

For the cooler months the property has full oli-fired central heating and a wood burner in the lounge. For those travelling by air there is a hairdryer, straightening irons and bed linen and towels can be provided for a small laundry charge.

Le Maubec is well situated for visiting the many interesting and pretty towns and villages in the area, including the “bastide” towns of Duras with its magnificent castle/chateau and Eymet with its attractive medieval square and remains of a fortified gateway, Soumensac with its beautiful old buildings and Knights Templar church, Allemans du Dropt with the outstanding frescoes in the church. Also Monteton, a hilltop village with a great view across the valley and La Sauvetat du Dropt with its fine church, old buildings and connections with the Templars of Soumensac. The bastide towns of Miramont de Guyenne, Monsegur, Castillones, Issigeac and Monpazier are a short drive away and well worth visiting.

A little further afield is the historic town of Bergerac – narrow streets and old buildings with several museums and galleries. The town is also an excellent venue for shopping, and hosts a wonderful firework display and food festival in July.

Canoes and Kayaks can be hired at nearby Allemans du Dropt for a trip up the river, and there are many rambling routes in the lovely surrounding countryside.

The cottage is within easy reach of Bergerac airport (around 30 minutes) with Bordeaux airport about 1.5 hours away.

“Fabulous, relaxing break”

Reviewed 25 Aug 2015

Lovely house and setting. The large pool kept the children occupied for hours, and the wifi was a saviour on rainy days. Very well equipped and presented gite.

“A well equipped and friendly house with spacious grounds and good pool”

Reviewed 21 Jul 2015

We have thoroughly enjoyed a two week stay at the Le Maubec. The house is well situated in rolling countryside close to the old village of Allemans on the Dropt river, but with good access by car to the small and delightful towns of Eymet and Duras. The house is well supported by a friendly local manager and gardener. The house itself is very well equipped - every need seems to have been anticipated. Although relatively compact it accommodated a family of five, including three teenagers. The outdoor living space is well designed and the pool is one of the best we have encountered. The weather this July has been extremely hot - temperatures in the 30-40 degree range. Although strong fans were provided it was difficult to achieve adequate ventilation in the upstairs master bedroom- this did lead to some uncomfortable nights. In cooler weather this would not have been an issue.

“Superb Holiday Accommdation”

Excellent base to explore the region. Superbly equipped to an extremely high standard with everything necessary to compliment an excellent rural location. Local amenities available within a few miles with good restaurants. We liked every aspect of the property including the lovely pool albeit a little chilly. Excellent WiFi which meant keeping in touch with the outside world was rather easy. Relaxing by the pool with a glass of wine in the late afternoon was a welcome treat, and the childrens swings kept our daughter amused while we cooked our evening meal to enjoy alfresco.

“Back again”

Reviewed 25 Aug 2014

Our second visit still as good, the house was perfect for our family with a bedroom and bathroom upstairs it meant we grandparents could have our own space, the house was easily big enough for the six of us. outside space is excellent plenty of room for playing football or whatever, the pool is a very good size, and there are two eating areas so you can alway find a bit of shade to eat. it is very peaceful and relaxing.

“Excellent, ideal for 3 generation family, young pensioner to 3 year old”

Reviewed 13 Aug 2013

Just returned from 2 weeks at Le Maubec, I wish we could have stayed longer. A fantastic place to stay, everything is provided and you will not want for anything. The swimming pool is excellent and grounds are very good, plenty of space for all to play including swings. The two outside dining areas are a good idea. The plant covered one we called our Taverna. The two children are already are asking to go back

“Home from home”

Reviewed 2 Aug 2013

This property was everything we expected and more very well equipped , the pool and surrounding areas were very good, nothing was to much trouble from the owner when asked any questions relating to the house. If were to return to this area again we would certainly like to return to this property

“Great place for winter break will be back to explore in summer”

Reviewed 23 Jan 2013

We have never spent Christmas away from home before so being in France quite an interesting experience. This area is lovely, quiet but close to some very picturesque villages and towns. Local bakers which was great for fresh bread, Although it wasn't as cold as in the uk (it was warm enough to sit outside for lunch on the south facing veranda) we were still glad of the central heating and to be able to cosy up to the log burning stove on an evening. Pity it wasn't quite warm enough to make use of great pool. Will certainly be back to test this out in summer.
