Description

La Masseria Fogliano was formerly an agricultural holding in the Cento Masserie area, immersed in the greenery of Salento's majestic olive trees and stretching out over eastern Murgia, which dissolves into to the blue of the Ionian sea. Since 2001 it has belonged to the “Lazzaro - de Filippis” family. An agricultural settlement dedicated to cereal and olive and dairy production, it dates back to Roman times. It rises out of the ground near a famous spring, which was already well known in the Magna Graecia period and is surrounded by centuries-old olive trees, cultivated thousands of years ago during the Messapian period. In the second half of the 18th Century, the manor house was extended with a Baroque and “Martinese” style building with a majestic facade set inside a large park, becoming a beautiful 18th Century villa, one of a kind and the work of an important aristocratic family in the area.Inside the building there is a church with magnificent aspect and an aura of enchantment,

It rises out of the ground near a famous spring, which was already well known in the Magna Graecia period and is surrounded by centuries-old olive trees, cultivated thousands of years ago during the Messapian period. In the second half of the 18th Century, the manor house was extended with a Baroque and “Martinese” style building with a majestic facade set inside a large park, becoming a beautiful 18th Century villa, one of a kind and the work of an important aristocratic family in the area.Inside the building there is a church with magnificent aspect and an aura of enchantment, built in stone blocks like the distinctive buildings of the nearby Itria Valley. At its shoulder unwinds the spacious courtyard of the old manor house, inside of which lovely low rise buildings are on display, once the home of workmen, and the section of an old “trappeto” which if restored, bring back the atmosphere of a charming square in an ancient rural village in the south Italian peninsula. They also form part of the historic Masseria stone buildings which include a snow cellar, trulli and sheep enclosure. After being a large centre of animal husbandry and dairy farming, since 2002 and with the label “Fogliano dalla Terra delle Cento Masserie” the holding has produced and sold an excellent extra-virgin olive oil, varieties of local fruits and “Terre Tarantine extra-virgin olive oil”, produced according to the methods and procedures of D.O.P. regulations (Protected Denomination of Origin).La Masseria Fogliano gives select guests the opportunity to spend the night in this beautiful building, surrounded by peaceful Pugliese countryside, in apartments with all the modern conveniences.La Masseria Fogliano is located in the Province of Taranto, in the area of Cento Masserie in the comune of Crispiano and within the main tourism hub of the area. How to get there: Follow the Strada Statale n.172 (Taranto - Martina Franca), take the “Crispiano - Montemesola” exit towards Montemesola. After 800m turn right and into the road marked by the two columns.
