"Home from home"

We travelled here for a family holiday and we all found it easy to get to from the North, the South and as far as Amsterdam. We stayed with 9 adults and 3 children aged 2-9 years old and everyone loved it. We especially liked the enormous garden. The rooms are all beautiful and the beds comfortable and there's plenty of bathrooms and space so you're not stepping on each other. The extra's, such as pool table and ping pong, in this place are great, and keep everyone entertained. We didn't even have time to try the sauna. The amenities are close by with a sainsbury's not far in Matlock and Crich's market place is just down the road with a small grocers. They also have a butchers which we could recommend and used for a BBQ. We also ordered a takeaway from the curry house in Crich and enjoyed it too. We visited the tram museum with the kids and this is great as it's just a 5 minute walk with a pushchair up the road. We had three boys aged 2-9 so it's sometimes difficult to keep them all entertained. The 4 year old and the 9 year old loved traveling up and down on all the trams and there was a great woodland sculpture walk to go with the 2 year old for a little nap and a soft play and arts and crafts for after. We had a really great time.

"Excellent house in an excellent spot in a beautiful part of the country"

The Jovial Dutchman was a real treat. The outside space (south facing) was fantastic and absolutely huge - the kids loved it and it was totally safe and enclosed. We used the whole garden, the seating area, the firepit, the BBQ and everything! The inside of the house was equipped to a high standard, with a lovely large kitchen and dining room. The bedrooms and bathrooms were plenty and decorated well. The beds were to die for, the comfiest I've had when staying away. A great utility area and Sauna/shower area, that was well used throughout the week. The kids played in the games room on a number of occasions, when we weren't out and about. There are loads of local attractions within 30 min drive and I would love to have had longer to explore the area. A great find in what I believe to be the most beautiful part of the UK. I would totally recommend this property. (also parking for about 8 cars!!)

"Our own pub for the weekend!"

Wow, the prospect of having our own pub for the weekend has to be any young mans dream! The JD is in a great location just outside the Peak District NP. It was spacious and full of character. I'd highly recommend it to big groups, there's soo much room to spread out. The large car park and garden was great and the kiddies den will allow hours of adventures for the little ones. I think this will be the location for our annual reunion! Couldn't speak highly enough of this unique property!

"Wonderful property for a family group of adults & children."

A three family, three generation group & we appreciated the lovely bedrooms with comfy beds & spotless linens also the large dining room where we could all eat together. Both adults & children enjoyed the games room (tournaments were held!) & the sauna. The enclosed garden was great & one evening we sat round the fire pit & toasted marshmallows. We were lucky with the weather & had some excellent walks in the area, plenty of information & maps were available, Boot room was invaluable. Have already recommended to others & would return ourselves.

"Massive house, every need thought of!"

What a brilliant place to say! There were 9 of us on this trip and 2 babies. And we still felt like we had loads a room! A brilliant kitchen (amazingly well stocked), with massive fridge and ice machine. And a seperate fridge to stock the booze! The games room is a brilliant feature when staying with friends - the pool table converts into a table tennis table and there are loads of board games too. A very comfy lounge and a massive dining room for us all to eat in. The bedrooms were great - i was staying in a smallish double with a fab ensuite, and it was really lovely. Like something out of a gorgeous cottage. The main bathroom is incredible (like something from MTV cribs) and there's another loo downstairs too. It was too cold for us to chill out in the garden, but that would be great in the summer. I would highly reccomend the Jovial Dutchman.

"christmas break with friends"

Our group of adults and children had a fantastic long weekend in December 2012. The beds were of v good quality, the family bathroom amazing, and never a problem with space. The kitchen had everything we needed and the dining table plenty big enough for us all to sit around at dinner. Once we worked out the heating controls the place was lovely and warm. We had Sainsburys deliver our food and they had no problem finding the building either. we will be returning again! i personally would have liked some information on the history of the building, as i really wanted to know more about it. I did miss having wi-fi to connect to but i did manage to get a phone signal while there.

Wi-Fi now re-installed - however it is in deep country so we don't get the speeds we would like!

"Fabulous stay in this unique setting"

We parked the cars, walked through the massive garden and entered the courtyard. We got the keys and our adventure began... We were blown away by the place.... The huge kitchen, equipped with large american fridge with breakfast bar, bar room with pool table, snug with large wide screen, large dining room and that was just down stairs. All the bed rooms, some with en suites were all also great , we had no complaints from any of our party. Although we did not use it, the sauna looked great. We had a fantastic short break at the Jovial Dutchman and would recommend this unique place, already we are planning a return trip!

"Fabulous, fabulous, fabulous!"

We enjoyed a 'fabulous' stay at The Jovial Dutchman and was possibly the best holiday property I have ever stayed in! Our group consisted of five couples with four children under three plus a very good dog. The bedrooms were all immacutely presented with ample space and excellent bathroom facilities. However, it was the living space downstairs that we were all so impressed with. Even with such a large group, we never felt like we were crowding each other. Plenty of room for chilling out on the very comfy sofas for those who wanted to relax, or for those with more energy, a great pool table/table tennis table - many a competition played over the weekend. The back garden is so secure and spacious, the property overall was extremely secure and perfect for couples with children. The surrounding area was really picturesque and both pubs had great local ales. We would particularly recommend the Black Swan - the staff were incredibly welcoming and friendly and our Sunday lunch was delicious. All in all, we cannot recommend this property enough and really made for a great University re-union.

"Spacious and suitable for all ages"

We were a group of 11 family members aged 13 - 75. Everyone loved it and enjoyed the facilities, inside and out. We were celebrating a 75th Birthday and a Golden Wedding Anniversary. We were blessed with wonderful weather very suitable for our evening BBQ and firepit session which went down very well. We had a picnic and walk on Curbar Edge and went up Crich Stand. There is so much to see and do in Derbyshire and Crich itself has good pubs, tearooms and shops. We would love to stay in the 'Dutchman' again.
