“Excellent Stay”

Reviewed 6 Nov 2016

Not often you find a place that ticks all the boxes but this one certainly did for our party of 13. From start to finish communication with owner was excellent which always helps when renting a property for the fitst time, as well as a number of positive reviews. Was blessed with good weather and was able to get out and about every day and of course using a number of local outlets for meals etc. Would have no hesitation in booking again or recommending to friends etc a true gem for large groups and of course the hot tub, sauna and pool table were great additions that were well used. Whilst there is room on the driveway for three cars which we used to unload our cars it is best to use the car park area behind the property for usual parking as it is a little difficult to get out of the drive with traffic and a blind bend very close. Thank you Martin for the use of your lovely property a great time was had by all. Thanks also to Sam for her help.

Thanks for your kind review. I'm only sorry we didn't get to meet, but also glad that Sam was able to help. We all look forward to seeing you again sometime in the very near future.

We went for a weekend to this wonderful place and got the rest we needed. We used the hot tub and sauna and sat in the garden as we had lovely weather. We found the place met all our needs plenty of room, showers it is a lovely place. we loved the names of the rooms and pictures and could not fault the place. I would think in the summer they have children's swings, trampoline and slide as kids love these. We all said we would love to bring our families here. Thanks to Martin he was so kind and helpful to us older ladies. Hope you will have us again.

It's always good to hear that we are getting most things right! Our property is suitable for all ages as you have seen. Not sure about swings and slides in the garden though! Thank you for your comments.

“Fantastic House, everything we could have asked for”

Reviewed 11 Jul 2016

We stayed here with a large party for a Hen Weekend. The house was amazing, had everything we needed and Communications with the owner were fantastic throughout. The garden is amazing, even bigger than it looks on the photos, as is the rest of the house. We loved the chairs round the firepit and made use of it several times. and we all made good use of the hot tub with its lovely view across the garden. There were 14 women in our party and every one of us commented on how comfortable the beds were. Fantastic property. Thank you.

We're so glad you enjoyed your stay with us. We like to wish all the very best for the forthcoming wedding and look forward to welcoming you again in the future. Martin.

“Home from home”

Reviewed 6 Aug 2013

We travelled here for a family holiday and we all found it easy to get to from the North, the South and as far as Amsterdam. We stayed with 9 adults and 3 children aged 2-9 years old and everyone loved it. We especially liked the enormous garden. The rooms are all beautiful and the beds comfortable and there's plenty of bathrooms and space so you're not stepping on each other. The extra's, such as pool table and ping pong, in this place are great, and keep everyone entertained. We didn't even have time to try the sauna. The amenities are close by with a sainsbury's not far in Matlock and Crich's market place is just down the road with a small grocers. They also have a butchers which we could recommend and used for a BBQ. We also ordered a takeaway from the curry house in Crich and enjoyed it too. We visited the tram museum with the kids and this is great as it's just a 5 minute walk with a pushchair up the road. We had three boys aged 2-9 so it's sometimes difficult to keep them all entertained. The 4 year old and the 9 year old loved traveling up and down on all the trams and there was a great woodland sculpture walk to go with the 2 year old for a little nap and a soft play and arts and crafts for after. We had a really great time.

“Excellent house in an excellent spot in a beautiful part of the country”

Reviewed 10 Jun 2013

The Jovial Dutchman was a real treat. The outside space (south facing) was fantastic and absolutely huge - the kids loved it and it was totally safe and enclosed. We used the whole garden, the seating area, the firepit, the BBQ and everything! The inside of the house was equipped to a high standard, with a lovely large kitchen and dining room. The bedrooms and bathrooms were plenty and decorated well. The beds were to die for, the comfiest I've had when staying away. A great utility area and Sauna/shower area, that was well used throughout the week. The kids played in the games room on a number of occasions, when we weren't out and about. There are loads of local attractions within 30 min drive and I would love to have had longer to explore the area. A great find in what I believe to be the most beautiful part of the UK. I would totally recommend this property. (also parking for about 8 cars!!)

“Wonderful house and location”

The rooms were all good sizes, many could fit a travel cot, all the beds were very comfy. lovely bathrooms. A large wonderful garden with tire swing, which even the older genration enjoyed! Excellent game room and sky movie package which was enjoyed by all. We will defo visit again. Would highly recommend this property.

“Our own pub for the weekend!”

Reviewed 5 Apr 2013

Wow, the prospect of having our own pub for the weekend has to be any young mans dream! The JD is in a great location just outside the Peak District NP. It was spacious and full of character. I'd highly recommend it to big groups, there's soo much room to spread out. The large car park and garden was great and the kiddies den will allow hours of adventures for the little ones. I think this will be the location for our annual reunion! Couldn't speak highly enough of this unique property!

“Wonderful property for a family group of adults & children.”

Reviewed 21 Mar 2013

A three family, three generation group & we appreciated the lovely bedrooms with comfy beds & spotless linens also the large dining room where we could all eat together. Both adults & children enjoyed the games room (tournaments were held!) & the sauna. The enclosed garden was great & one evening we sat round the fire pit & toasted marshmallows. We were lucky with the weather & had some excellent walks in the area, plenty of information & maps were available, Boot room was invaluable. Have already recommended to others & would return ourselves.

“Massive house, every need thought of!”

Reviewed 15 Feb 2013

What a brilliant place to say! There were 9 of us on this trip and 2 babies. And we still felt like we had loads a room! A brilliant kitchen (amazingly well stocked), with massive fridge and ice machine. And a seperate fridge to stock the booze! The games room is a brilliant feature when staying with friends - the pool table converts into a table tennis table and there are loads of board games too. A very comfy lounge and a massive dining room for us all to eat in. The bedrooms were great - i was staying in a smallish double with a fab ensuite, and it was really lovely. Like something out of a gorgeous cottage. The main bathroom is incredible (like something from MTV cribs) and there's another loo downstairs too. It was too cold for us to chill out in the garden, but that would be great in the summer. I would highly reccomend the Jovial Dutchman.
