Crail is a beautiful little village in the heart of the historic East Neuk of Fife. It has a good selection of local shops, tea rooms, hotels, and pottery, and throughout the summer hosts several festivals. It also has 2 lovely beaches and a very pretty harbour.

The flat sits only a few minutes walk from the children's play park and Roome Bay sandy beach where there is access onto the Fife Coastal Path - some of Scotland's finest coastal walks.

For those who enjoy outdoor sports there is also plenty to do within the surrounding area - windsurfing, canoeing, sailing, walking, cycling, fishing.

And of course Fife has some wonderful golf couses. Most locally are the links courses of Balcomie, Craighead, Kingsbarns and St Andrews Old Course.

Fife also has a host of festivals throughout the year. Check what's on when you plan to visit on the Festivals in Fife website.

Crail lies 10 miles south of St Andrews (shops, cinema, museums, sealife centre, beaches, golf, putting, hotels & restaurants).

Location description from owner

The Scotland region

The Fife region

The East Neuk lies within the historic Kingdom of Fife. It is a beautiful part of Scotland which boasts many pretty villages, historic buildings, picturesque harbours and world renowned links golf courses. It also generally has less rain than the West Coast of the country.

An ideal location for walkers, golfers, birdwatchers, watersports enthusiasts, cyclists, motorcyclists, artists and photographers; as well as those just wanting a beautiful place to relax and unwind.

Crail

Crail itself is a busy little fishing village with lots to explore and enjoy on its own doorstep. There are several good tea rooms, a small co-op food store, butchers, fruit/veg & fish shop, bakers, pharmacist, post office and the Beehive for everything else you might need! There are three hotels throughout the town which serve meals. The Golf Hotel which dates back to 1700 is a nice place to go for a pub lunch or dinner. Beside the old tollbooth on the Marketgate is the Crail Museum and Heritage Centre which is open throughout the summer months and some weekends in the spring. In the heart of the cobbled lanes is Crail Pottery. It is small, but crammed full of pots and crockery to browse, or to buy a memento of your holiday. Crail has one of the prettiest, most scenic harbours in all of Scotland, so this is not to be missed. If you enjoy photography or painting then be sure to make the most of it. There are seats where you can read or just wile away a few hours with a view to die for. And there'ss a small sandy beach beside it to keep the kids happy too! At the other end of Crail from the Harbour, close to the flat, is another rocky/sandy beach called Roome Bay beside the play park. The enclosed pool of water here is known locally as the Crab Pool, where the kids can spend hours enticing and catching crabs, exploring the rock pools or building sandcastles.Crail was made a Royal Burgh in 1300 by Robert the Bruce and Marketgate which is in the centre was once the largest medieval marketplace in Europe. On a Saturday and Sunday there is a small wooden hut beside the harbour where fresh lobster and crab can be bought. There is also a quaint art gallery and coffee shop just a few yards up from the harbour which serves delicious home baking and snacks. The last 2 weeks of July there is the Crail Festival when there are open air concerts, Ceilidh, Sandcastle Competitions and Ghost Walks. The Fife Coastal Path was created in 2002 and runs between the Forth and Tay bridges and is approx 150 km. It is clearly marked, so you can pick this up at any stage along the path. The magical cliff top views, castle ruins and coastal villages along the whole length of the Coastal Path make it an experience worth seeing. St. Andrews is about 10 minutes drive away and has a cinema, swimming pool, award winning beaches and lots of interesting shops and restaurants. Alternatively if you want to spend a day or night in Edinburgh you can drive (around 1hr 15min) or get a train, the nearest station is 25km away.

“Wonderful and very comfortable accomodation”

Reviewed 15 Jul 2013

My wife and I and our 3 young children had a wonderful week in Mr & Mrs Donohoe's holiday accomodation. The house was in perfect condition and everything was perfect. Every items needed to have a lovely stay was there (games for the family, TV, linen for the bedrooms, Towels for the bathrooms, Beach towel etc...) Crail is a lovely and peaceful little village, I would recommend 2 Balcomie Green to everyone who is looking for a confortable place to stay while on holiday. Thank you to Mrs Donohoe for letting her accomodation to us. We will hopefully be back soon. Best regards, Christophe Criaud & family
