Description

Located 400 metres from Crackington Haven beach on a quiet road - great for kids and also adults who love walking the coastal path or exploring Cornwall. Put on the wetsuit and wander down to the cafes and beach with your bodyboard. The house is situated near to the National Trust maintained coastal path and overlooks a beautiful wooded valley with partial sea views from the house and full blown panoramic sea views from the bench at the top of the garden - we have about 1/3 acre mostly populated with wild flowers - great for sitting watching the sunset over the sea sipping a glass of wine. Sun-lovers can lounge in the garden or decamp to the beach with deck chairs. Crackington is usually quite peaceful. There is more of a buzz in the summer, although still very relaxed - its great wandering down to the beach while day-trippers have to find a space in the car park. The house is furnished in a modern light airy style with large living area containing original artwork, two large sofas

There is more of a buzz in the summer, although still very relaxed - its great wandering down to the beach while day-trippers have to find a space in the car park. The house is furnished in a modern light airy style with large living area containing original artwork, two large sofas and lounge chairs, coffee table and flat screen freeview satellite TV including catchup TV e.g. BBC iPlayer. There is an Apple TV which provides access to the latest films (you will need you own iTunes account), Netflix, YouTube etc. The new kitchen/diner has modern appliances including two fridges, dishwasher, washing machine (in garage), ceramic cooker and polished stone work tops. There is a large master bedroom, a large twin bedroom with en-suite, and a small bedroom which can sleep 1 or 2 people at a pinch - it has a single bed that has another single underneath that zips together magically into a double. The Master bedroom also has a foldaway bed that could sleep a child - there is lots of room. Stop press for 2015 - we have recently had both bathrooms completely modernised with walk-in showers and marble tiling. The conservatory is good for drying wetsuits - it has a fully working (albeit a bit old) lifestyle fitness cross-trainer. The garage doubles as a playroom - it has a table tennis table, darts board - you can borrow the surf boards at your own risk. There is a lovely patio area with table and chairs and a new Weber gas barbecue - also for use at own risk. There is parking for about 4 cars.Checkout/checkin in normally 10 am to 4 pm. If there is no adjacent booking then we will try and be flexible. You can park in the drive early or later than these times.

Location description from owner

The England region

NOTE THAT CHOUGH COTTAGE IS IN CRACKINGTON HAVEN AND NOT BUDE. Crackington Haven is located about 12 miles south of Bude and about 5 miles north of Boscastle. We often go to Bude (15 min drive) for walks by the canal or south to Daymer Bay (40 min drive) to walk up the Camel Estuary to Rock and maybe take the ferry over to Padstow. Widemouth Bay (15 min drive) is great for surfing - you can get good surf lessons there. Padstow has some excellent restaurants - Paul Ainsworth No6, Rick Stein's and Margaret's. Watergate Bay is another favourite where you can visit Jamie Oliver's 15 restaurant. Nathan Outlaw's restaurant in Rock has recently been voted number 3 in the whole UK. Great for kids is the Eden project (45 min drive). There are some superb golf courses - St Enodoc and Trevose in particular - you need to book ahead. Bude golf course is also a very interesting challenge.

Crackington Haven

Crackington Haven is in an outstanding area of natural beauty which is maintained by the National Trust. The coastline is real Cornwall with rugged cliffs and atlantic waves. Chough Cottage is just 400 yards from the beach, the two cafes and the pub. The beach has a real buzz in the summer with many families. There is a lifeguard station in the Summer. Great for surfing and body boarding. Because it is so close, we typically put on our wetsuits at home and wander down to the beach for body boarding- come back for a shower and then laze in the garden which is a real sun trap (assuming the sun is shining). Alternatively, its easy to take your stuff down to the beach for a whole day - last year we had rounders and boules competitions. The beach is flanked on both sides by rock pools which kids love. The cafes serve some great homemade food and the pub has good beer and a restaurant with pub food. You can hire wetsuits from the cafe's and you can book the tennis court - it has to be one of the most beautiful places to play tennis in the world!Crackington is on the Cornish coastal path. Walking here is pretty serious stuff. You can walk northwards towards Bude which takes you up Penkenna the tall cliff by the edge of the bay or southwards towards Boscastle. From Chough Cottage, you can either pick up the path by the beach or turn left out of the gate and walk through the woods by the stream and up onto the cliffs. A good idea is to catch the regular bus service and then walk back.
