The beaches of Ogmore-by-Sea and Southerndown are both a 10-15 minute drive - great for either surfing, horse-riding, exploring or having picnics. Shopping? There is a designer outlet and large cinema complex 10 minutes away. The quaint town of Cowbridge with its boutique shops and restaurants is 15km and within a short drive are many entertaining attractions that South Wales has to offer - among which are The Big Pit, St Fagons Historical Museum, the Brecon Railway and Cardiff Bay with its huge range of watersports, restaurants and activities. The cottage is a great base for walking being only 15 minutes away from the Welsh Coastal Path.

The main cottage consists of four bedrooms. A master with ensuite bathroom, bedroom 1 has a King size bed and en-suite shower. There are also two twin bedded rooms. A travel cot is also available on request. There is also a large family bathroom. On the ground-floor there is a huge family lounge with dining table, large open fireplace and plenty of seating. There is an additional snug which is ideal for children with sofa. The cottage has a brand new large kitchen with bifold doors which provides an excellent view of the surrounding countryside. There is an Aga (note only on in the winter) and a Rangemaster cooker. The kitchen is fully equipped with all amenities. In addition there is a separate utility room and downstairs cloakroom.

We have a separate chalet 'Rose Bud' with the accommodation on the upper mezzannine - overlooking a large lounge with two sofa beds, television and small kitchen. There is a shower room on the ground floor. This makes Rose Cottage and Rose Bud ideal for two families to share or for families with older children. The main house can sleep 8 persons plus a travel cot or two. Rose Bud can sleep 2 upstairs and a max of 4 downstairs but it would be a squeeze.

Location description from owner

The South Wales region

Only 20 minutes from the cottage the capital city of Wales should require no introduction. It is a thriving 21st century city with everything you would expect from a vibrant cultural centre and more. The most visited town in Wales has recently been recognised by the National Geographic Magazine which ranked Cardiff 6th in its world-wide list of summer destinations.

It is impossible to say how much Cardiff has to offer here, you will just have to go and find out for yourself.

“Lovely house, great location, annex excellent for the kids!”

Reviewed 14 Apr 2014

Really enjoyed our week - perfectly placed for trips to the Gower, Cardiff, Swansea and dont forget Heatherton Activity centre out west: bit of a drive but worth it. Great house: all the things a family would need and the children really enjoyed the Xbox on the big TV in the annex. We would certainly contemplate using this property for a break again.

“Fantastic cottage!”

Reviewed 19 Feb 2014

The cottage is lovely and spacious and Sarah is an outstanding host. She left coffee and the small things that you often forget to buy in the grocery store. The kids had lots of movies to choose from in the evening. The best part, is there is a friendly neighbourhood horse who loves carrots. Kids were gutted to come home :)

“Beautiful, warm, spacious well equipped country cottage perfectly located to explore South Wales”

Reviewed 10 Jan 2014

We, that is two families or four, had a very relaxing week in Rose Cottage which is very spacious and welcoming. Loved the Aga, the open fire, large main room and that it has the annex that the children used to play DVDs and Xbox in while we enjoyed relaxing in the main house! It is situated on the outskirts of Bridgend but feels like the country as it overlooks rolling fields and has Lily the horse right next door. Most of South Wales is easily accessible - we visited The Gower, Cardiff, Big Pit , Swansea as well as the local coastline at Nash Point and Ogmore which was stunning - even in the storms. Bridgend also has a great discount boutique outlet that was useful for some sale shopping (without the crowds). All in all a wonderful week and a wonderful house to stay in - thanks Sarah and Brendan (and thanks also for the champagne on arrival - we did feel very welcome!)
