The England region

Cross the Solent to the Isle of Wight and you may feel as if you have stepped back in time! The Isle of Wight is one of the best kept secrets in the UK when it comes to areas of outstanding natural beauty.

Osborne House in East Cowes, is well worth a visit. It was the Summer Home of Queen Victoria for many years. The house and gardens are open to visitors during the summer months and there is usually an open air 'Last Night at the Proms' concert in the grounds sometime during July.

Alum Bay near Yarmouth is the home to the famous coloured sands. A chairlift operates from the Needles Pleasure Park down to the beach.

Ventnor on the south side of the Island enjoys a microclimate of its own. The Botanical Gardens have a variety of unusual plant life. The town itself is perched on a hill and there are several pubs and restaurants overlooking the sea where one can spend a pleasant day watching the world go by.

Blackgang Chine is a Pleasure Park built on the edge of a cliff on the south side of the Island. There are various fairground type rides, plus Wild West Land, Dinosaur Land, Haunted House and a variety of different attractions to keep the children entertained.

The Isle of Wight Lavender Farm is also worth a visit. The Old Dairy Tearoom has some interesting goodies to try out - lavender ice-cream and lavender scones and cakes! For a more traditional cream tea we suggest you try out one of the many old fashioned tearooms in Shanklin.

The Island offers the cyclist dedicated cycleways - many following the course of disused railway lines, signed routes, miles of bridleways and quiet country lanes as an alternative to busy main roads.

The Isle of Wight plays host to 8 golf clubs, from 9 to 18 holes. For fun and gentle activity, wander down to the Needles View Pitch and Putt, set on the slopes of Headon Warren, between the national Coastal Path and Alum Bay Chine. Here you can have a crack at the challenging nine-hole course, covering two acres, while enjoying stunning views of the Needles and superb coastal views across the Solent.

Cowes has an abundance of restaurants, bars and interesting shops. There's a couple of small supermarkets in the town and if you need a relaxing treat there's a small spa close by.

Cowes has narrow streets and as well as many shops selling the latest sailing gear there are a number of local craft shops where you can usually find that unique present for the man or woman who has everything!
There are some lovely walks within close proximity. From Regatta Cottage you can follow the circular walk along the river path to Newport and back. There are a number of guide books at the house providing details of this and other walks on the Island.

There are many restaurants offering a variety of fare including Indian, Thai, the local catch of the day and good old fashioned fish and chips.

There is an abundance of pubs in Cowes. Allegedly, there are more pubs per square mile than in any other town in the UK! Many of the pubs do food and The Anchor often has live bands playing during the summer months.

Cowes is a splendid base for many of the Island's attractions, including walking, cycling, golf and cultural trips around some of the historic buildings.

“family Holiday”

Reviewed 29 Aug 2016

We returned to the Isle of Wight after many years and have had the most relaxing time the accommodation was excellent and well stocked we found parking a daily challenge but so did everyone else it did not spoil the holiday and never inconvenienced at all. the cottage was comfortable and we found no faults, my grandchildren also enjoyed our stay.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. I am delighted that you enjoyed staying at Regatta Cottage and I hope to welcome you back at some time in the future. Amanda

“Well equipped clean Family holiday home”

Reviewed 9 Aug 2013

Firstly, Amanda, the owner, made the initial enquiry and booking VERY easy. She's a genuine person!! The house is clean, very well equipped and spacious. Almost too much room for the five of us. The welcome pack is a nice touch. Nice compact but well thought out rear garden. The area was quiet and only a short walk from town. The only negative is the `on street parking'. All in all though it was a great base and only 25 mins from the Wightlink ferry.

Thank you for your lovely review. So pleased that you enjoyed the house and garden. If you do decide to make a return visit to Regatta Cottage you may want to consider the Red Funnel ferry from Southampton to East Cowes. This ferry is much closer, you hop on the Chain Ferry from East Cowes to West Cowes and the house is then only 2 minutes away in the car. Although we do not have a dedicated parking space outside the house at Regatta Cottage there is plenty of free on street parking available not far from the house.

“Beautiful house with lovely garden”

Reviewed 14 Jul 2013

Regatta Cottage is a lovely rental, equipped to a very high standard and clearly recently refurbished. The welcome basket was a lovely surprise and made our lives much easier particularly as we were only there for a weekend. Key pick up and return is at a local pub (in West Cowes centre near the hi speed ferry) and was nice and easy. Is about 5-10mins walk from the property. There are several keys which is useful for large groups. The garden looked lovely but we didn't really get a chance to use it, mores the pity.

Thank you for your review, glad you liked your welcome basket. Amanda

“Perfect Holiday Rental”

Reviewed 23 Jun 2013

From the first contact with Amanda I knew this place was going to be great. Amanda was very prompt and helpful in answering emails and throughout the booking process. The cottage itself is amazing. A huge kitchen, lovely backyard and very comfy beds! Everything you could think of is catered for including kitchen equipment, dvd's, and sensor lights on the landing! I highly recommend this Cottage for it's great location to West Cowes centre and homely feel. There is already talk of going back next year we had such a great stay.

Thank you so much for your lovely review. We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay at Regatta Cottage and delighted that you are considering returning next year. What a fabulous endorsement! Thank you again for taking the time to write a review for us.

“Great property in Cowes”

Reviewed 28 Apr 2013

Just had a great week in this cottage visiting extended family. House was spotless and had a lovely garden to relax in. The house was also well stocked with books, DVD's and board games. Location was great and a short walk to shops and very easy to get to the chain ferry over to East Cowes. Would recommend to anybody coming to the island and cannot recommend highly enough.

Thank you so much for your lovely review. It is great to know that you enjoyed the house and all it has to offer. We look forward to welcoming you back again.

“A real home from home”

Reviewed 6 Apr 2013

One of the most comfortable holiday rentals we have had. Great for those who prefer eating in - a very well equipped kitchen. All the beds were very comfortable and the bedding and linen spotlessly clean. The garden was lovely and would be a great place to spend time in the warmer weather. The property is only a short walk from the town centre which has some lovely coffee shops/bars. It was also only around a 30 minute drive to most other parts of the island. A very enjoyable holiday.

Many thanks for your lovely review. We are really delighted that you enjoyed your stay.

“Lovely house in a great location”

Reviewed 24 Aug 2012

I spent a week at Regatta Cottage with husband, 3 year old son and mother-in-law, with my sister-in-law and her kids joining us for a couple of days. Regatta Cottage was a perfect base for a week exploring Isle of Wight. IoW is so small that nowhere is more than 40 minutes drive away but the house is also in a great location for the chain bridge and the East Cowes port and for a walk into Cowes, which is a lovely town. Regatta Cottage is beautifully decorated and fitted out with everything we could need. We were all very comfortable and sorry to leave at the end of the week. The welcome basket was a nice touch and the information folders were very useful. Highly recommended.

Many thanks for your comments, we are really pleased that Regatta Cottage was a perfect base for your holiday in Cowes. Amanda

“Wonderful holiday home for groups and families!!”

Reviewed 22 Jun 2012

After spending hours trawling through the internet looking at the options for holiday homes available in the IOW, I would say that this property is amongst the best you will find for the price. The overall presentation of the house is to a very high standard, as I am sure you will be able to see from the pictures on the excellent website. The kitchen has everything you could possbily need and the furnishings and furniture throught the house are all quite new and a very good quality. The exception is the mattresses on the bunk bed, which are okay for kids upto say 8-10, but perhaps too basic for older children/adults. The property is well situated for local amenities. There is a convenience store over the road which is open til 9:30 pm most days and the centre of Cowes is approx a 5 minute walk away where you will find two small "express" size supermarkets and a varierty of places to eat/drink and a reasonable range of shops. I believe that the owner uses the property herself from time-to-time so a lot of thought has gone into how the house looks and what is available to you (there is a good range of DVDs,CDs, books and board games, a nice touch!) The owner seems a lovely person and was very pleasant and professional in all my dealings with her. She was very keen to make sure we enjoyed our stay and when we collected the keys we were delighted to be presented with a large box of foodstuffs like milk, tea, biscuits and bread. Again, a nice touch!! I would say that I would be happy to actually live in this house as my own in its present level of presentation. Lovely. The only two (small) negatives would be due to the type of property it is. The property is a victorian terrace house, and although the property is very spacious throughout with good sized rooms (it comfortably accomodated our family of five) the property cannot offer off-road parking. The road itself is narrow so off-road parking is only permitted on one side of the road leading to too many cars and not enough spaces. Where you park is hit and miss and on a few occasions we had to park the car in another street. The second negative is the garden. There is a nice area where you can sit for evening meals, but again becasue it is a victorian terrace you feel a bit boxed in, and with neighbours on each side there is not much privacy either. Overall I and my family enjoyed our stay at Regatta Cottage and would definately stay in the property again. For those people who like scores out of ten I would give the property and holiday home experience 8/10. It would have been a nine if not for the minor problems with parking and the slightly disappointing garden. I would sum up by saying "book with confidence".

Thank you so much for your excellent and detailed review I am sure that potential guests will find this extremely useful. Thank you for mentioning the problem with the bunk bed. The bunk bed and mattresses have been replaced. The new frame is made of sturdy wooden and the new matteresses are very comfy for both children or adults. We do hope you will choose to return to Regatta Cottage. Amanda

“A lovely place to come home...”

Reviewed 17 May 2012

We had a great time at Regatta Cottage, everything was well organised, clean, tidy and welcoming - just as described in the write up and really well located. The owners were friendly, efficient, helpful in all the arrangements and even the local shop owner made us feel right at home helping us with the welcome pack in the rain! Despite the weather we even managed a little time in the sun in the garden (great for al fresco breakfasts). All in all it was a lovely, cosy place to relax in of an evening or come home to after rather wet, hair-raising experiences in faulty RIB's!! A definite godsend of comfort and cosiness! Thanks for helping make my friend's hen weekend so good, we would definitely return.

Thank you for your lovely and very detailed review. We look forward to welcoming you back. Amanda
