Location description from owner

The England region

Cowes

When I first visited Cowes I lived in a busy town, and was amazed by the peace and quiet, the ability to hear birds singing, not traffic, and by the calm and friendly atmosphere in a town that welcomes tourists but keeps it character. Cowes is the perfect mix of quiet island life with modern amenities, and all with a classic charm. Walk down the cobbled high street and you will see its impressive array of independent shops, cafes, restaurants and bars, or stroll along the promenade to watch all the yachts race out on the Solent. At night the pace livens somewhat, depending where you want to go, with live music in many of the local bars. Just two days on the island and you feel relaxed and rejuvenated, so a whole week is just bliss!

On the practical side, Cowes is ideally placed for visitors, being the destination of the passenger ferry, and just a short hop across the river to the car ferry terminal, so you can relax as soon as you get on the boat knowing you will be at your destination in minutes, not hours. The town also has great transport links to Newport, the islands main shopping and business centre, and to the rest of the island. By car, nowhere is more than a 30 minute drive away, so sights such as the Needles, the seaside tourist resorts of Ryde, Sandown and Shanklin, or the calmer waters of Yarmouth are all within easy reach for a day trip.
