Description

Le Petit Chateau is situated just outside the village of Courpignac, in the Charente Maritime countryside - about 45 minutes north of Bordeaux. Montendre, about 8km away is a very well equipped village hosting a multitude of shops, supermarkets, post office and a small chateau. There is a boulangerie in the village of Courpignac (about 400 meters from the property).

Try a day trip to St.Emilion (45 mins), a beautiful old and charming village, well known for its wine or Cognac (45 mins) an old city where you can visit the distilleries and caves of this famous brandy - or perhaps the sand dunes at Arcachon (2 hours) or visit the beautiful coastal city of La Rochelle (1hr 15). In the city of Jonzac (15 minutes away) you can find thermal baths and a huge waterpark paradise for children and adults with big swimming pool, hammam, sauna, gym etc... and even a casino.

The nearest big beach on the Atlantic ocean is Royan (50 mins), and various beaches are located alongside the Gironde

Location description from owner

The Poitou-Charentes region

Charente-Maritime is a department on the west coast of France named after the Charente River.

The economy of Charente-Maritime is based on three major sectors: tourism, maritime industry, and manufacturing. Cognac and pineau are two of the major agricultural products.

During the summer months, families flock from all over Europe to bask in the sun and enjoy the local seafood.

Charente-Maritime is the headquarters of the major oyster producer Marennes-Oléron. Oysters cultivated here are shipped across Europe.

Rochefort is the site of shipbulding and a French naval base.

La Rochelle is a seat of major French industry. Just outside the city is a factory for the French engineering giant Alstom, where the TGV, the cars for the Paris and other metros are manufactured. It is a popular venue for tourism, with its picturesque medieval harbour and city walls.
