Location description from owner

The Nouvelle-Aquitaine region

The Charente is a rural area in the south west of France, south of the Loire valley, and is said to have the second highest number of sunshine hours per year in France (after the Mediterranean), with temperatures frequently reaching the 30ºC's in summer. The countryside is stunning with its forests, vineyards, lakes and rivers.
The region offers a huge variety of activities from visits to the numerous historical towns and villages, such as the chateau in La Rochefoucauld, the underground church in Aubeterre and the Roman architecture of the Abbeye of Saint-Amant-de-Boixe.
Angoulême, the capital of the Charente department, hosts a number of festivals throughout the year.
Boat trips on the river Charente and canoeing / kayaking on the river Tardoire,
The Charente also offers some excellent restaurants, golf courses and weekly and monthly markets.
There are several forests, lakes with their man-made beaches, several rivers suitable for bathing or fishing and numerous signposted routes for walking and cycling.

“A relaxing base”

Reviewed 24 Aug 2016

Had a thoroughly enjoyable stay here, whilst using it as a base for a relaxing break in the Charante and Limousin areas, in a gap between Euro 2016 fixtures. The owners went out of their way to accommodate and make things logistically easier for us (by picking us up at Angouleme station) , and were most welcoming .Will have no hesitation in returning.

Owner's reply: We are pleased you enjoyed your stay with us and look forward to welcoming you back.

“Quaint rural Gite”

Reviewed 7 Apr 2012

A lovely rural retreat, ideal location for visiting Circuit des Remparts in Angouleme. The gite is well equiped and comfortable, with a great courtyard garden, for sitting out and relaxing. The owners made us feel very welcome, and we look forward to returning soon.
