Description from owner

Description

Le Lys is a recently reburbished pretty little "Bijou" stone gite set in owner's private garden with ample outdoor space for relaxing and alfresco dining. This area is not spoilt by tourism and the welcome from the French is genuinely warm and friendly. It captures the true essence of France.

The gite is secluded and tranquil ideal for the perfect "getaway". Birdsong, red squirrels and deer are on the doorstep in the forests and walking lanes.

Two bicycles are available to explore the quiet country lanes. Two hair driers, a coffee maker, freezer, gas stove, fridge, microwave, 2 sun loungers, shopping bags, DVDs, boards games, books, CDs, wifi and peace and quiet. Wifi is sometimes intermittent unless the squirrels have eaten the telegraph lines in which case it is non existent. It is usually possible sitting outside at the dining table. We are in rural France with 2G.

A "welcome pack" for your first breakfast will be provided you on

A "welcome pack" for your first breakfast will be provided you on arrival and the owners will be discretely available to assist you as much as possible. We would hope heating should not be necessary from mid May to mid September in this part of France. But if required a portable gas heater is available. Should the weather turn inclement during May or late September we will supply the first cylinder of gas free of charge. Gas will be provided for cooking during the duration of your stay.

Bed Linen will be replaced once a week and towels will be replaced every 3 days. A washing machine is available for guests only adjacent to the gite.

Access to the N10 is approximately 10 minutes by car, making it within easy access of the larger towns and the coast. If it is an escape from a hectic life you require then this is a real gem.

The roads and lanes are reasonably flat and free from busy traffic making it enjoyable for short or longer excusions. Poitiers (30 minutes) north is our nearest major city but Angouleme, Melle, La Rochelle, Ile De Re, Ruffec, Civray, are within easy reach for an outing. Trains and planes come into Poitiers and we are approximately 90 minutes from Paris on the TGV.

A car is a necessity in this area, (private parking) as we are approximately 10 minutes by car from the nearest supermarket and restaurant. We enjoy living in this area and hope that you will enjoy a holiday at Le Lys. Our local pizzeria serves a variety of menus and the pizzas from the wood oven are superb.

Le Lys is close to the Deux Sevres border and even a trip to Bordeaux is only approximately 90 mins from the gite. Seafood at St Martin De Re on the Ile De Re makes a superb day out and a truly memorable excursion

. Angouleme and Poitiers, if you enjoy big towns are most intriguing. The large Tuesday market at Lezay makes a great morning excursion Monkey Valley is fascinating for both the young and not so young. Picnics by the various rivers in the area in pretty villages make for a memorable truly French experience. Vivonne water parc and the Plan D'eau near Ruffec are all within 30 minutes.

If you venture to Pouzeau you will enjoy a totally unspoilt French hamlet.

Location description from owner

The Nouvelle-Aquitaine region

Gorgeous unspoilt hamlet. Close to larger towns by car but a peaceful, authentic French hamlet suroounded by forest and fields. Walking, cycling and relaxing are high on the priority list. Squirrels, bird life and deer ad interest to the area. Close to Couhe for shopping and eating out but the market at Lezay on Tuesday's is a highlight. Monkey world is about 20 minutes away and makes for an amazing day out. Golf at Les Forges is superb and Ruffec, Poitiers, Melle and a host of lovely riverside villages make for interesting excusions.

Couhe

If you want to visit one of the sunniest regions of France this is well worth a visit. If you are house hunting then position yourself here and get out and about. The Marais Poitevin, Ile de Re, LA Rochelle and Angouleme are lovely for picnics or restaurant lunches. Treat yourself to a day out and come home to the peace and quiet of this pretty little stone gite.

“Excellent value for money with all the comforts thrown in”

Reviewed 11 Jul 2016

A clean cosy gite with everything you needed to enjoy your stay. The drapes the large bed the quality sheets and thick generous towels all added to our comfort. The owner was discreet giving us information when we asked but our privacy when we desired it We enjoyed the French markets and the local restaurants and even took a trip to the coast at La Rochelle We would certainly stay again if we are ever in the area

Owner's reply: Very glad you were able to appreciate our local sites and culture. It was a pleasure having you in the gite and thank you for introducing us to another new local restaurant. You are very welcome to return.

“A little paradise in the French countryside”

If your after a get away then this is the place. The nearest shops and bars are 10km away, but once the fridge is full and the charm of the locality washes over you it feels like heaven. La Rochelke, Ile de re, Poitier etc are all within easy reach, and there is quite a comprehensive list of villages, chateau, markets and attractions, we ventured to the market at Lezay, great French market. If you love food (as we do) The quality of the produce wether from markets, local shops or super marche is great.

Owner's reply: It was a pleasure to share this tranquil little pocket of France with you. So near but so far from the tourist routes.Thank you for choosing to come here and we are glad you enjoyed your visit.

“Fantastic place to stay and very good hosts.”

Lovely French home in a quiet rural setting. My accommodation was private, clean and had everything I needed. The gardens are beautiful and my hosts were very friendly and provided excellent meals and visits to places of interest. I would highly recommend this place to other people.

Owner's reply: It was a real pleasure to have you at Le Lys. We are glad you enjoyed yourself and we look forward to your next visit. There are still plenty of places for you to visit next summer.

“Superb accomodation set in the quiet French countryside.”

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Suzanne and Tony's superb accommodation. All our needs were catered for and our hosts were very friendly and helpful - assisting us with their knowledge of the area and the French language. After spending a day exploring the local walks and visiting the neighbouring towns, we were able to relax in the comfort of the beautiful interior of the gite. We would thoroughly recommend this holiday accommodation.

Owner's reply: You certainly made the most of your stay here. We enjoyed meeting up every few days to hear about your outings and adventures. We are looking forward to your return in summer 2015. Don't forget to let us know when you wish to come. Thanks for your kind review, it was a pleasure having you stay
