Location description from owner

The England region

The South Hams, bordered by Plymouth to the West, Dartmoor to the North, and Torbay to the East, boasts some of the most unspoilt coastline on the south English coast: 60 miles of bays and coves, including the promontories of Start Point and Bolt Head. The entire coast, along with the lower Avon and Dart valleys, forms most of the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The area benefits from a very mild climate - winters are warm and wet, while spring and autumn are often glorious - making it a year-round destination. Summertime is when things get very exciting in South Devon: the TQ7 postcode in particular is renowned among installers of solar pv as one of the sunniest places in the UK, and in most years between June and September, every day is beach day. For those seeking more cerebral pleasures, the great Elizabethan maritime city of Plymouth, and the ancient Roman walled city of Exeter provide contrasting attractions: each has its complement of historic sites, stately homes, grand gardens and museums to visit. They also offer excellent shopping, elegant dining, a range of nightlife and award winning theatre at the Theatre Royal and the Northcott respectively.

Cotmore

Many miles of safe, award-winning beaches offer swimming, rockpooling, and sunbathing opportunities, while watersports - particularly surfing, windsurfing, sailing, waterskiing and parasailing - are popular and widely available. There are facilities for golf, sailing, horseriding, tennis, and river- and sea fishing all within 30 minutes' drive of the property.

Walkers and their dogs will appreciate the attractions of miles of quiet lanes, footpaths, bridleways, and the renowned South Devon Coast Path, while stargazers will glory in the complete absence of artificial light, which makes the Milky Way regularly visible with the naked eye. The area is hugely popular with birdwatchers: Start Point is on a major migration route, Slapton Ley is an overwintering spot for rare overseas visitors, and the Cirl Bunting can be spotted at one or two favoured locations.

South Devon is at the cutting edge of the Good Food revolution in the UK and there are superb eateries to be found in every town and village, with pub fare that would put many restaurants to shame. Fish and seafood are a speciality in the many fishing villages along the coast, and there are a number of establishments where you can pick your choice from the slab or tank and have it prepared, cooked and served to your table while you wait.

“Wonderful cottage for a quick break”

Reviewed 6 Jun 2013

We stayed at Rose Cottage for a week and we found it to be a wonderful place. The cottage itself has been decorated to a high standard and it was very warm, especially since the weather was quite cold. We really enjoyed the welcome basket of coffee, jam, bread and the chilli chocolate! The owners also allowed us to bring our dog (well-behaved) and there are several dog-friendly beaches (Beesands etc.) close to the cottage. Overall a great place to wind-down & relax.

“A piece of Heaven in Devon”

Reviewed 2 Jun 2013

Fantastic stay at Cottemore Farm, the hosts Piers and Sue made us welcome throughout our stay, we had our 2 Rottwiellers with us and they were just as welcome (they are well behaved by the way). The facilities were first class and no corners have been cut in the refurbishment. absolutely lovely. a fantastic place to relax and enjoy and to explore the area from. We'll be back!

“Wonderful retreat”

Reviewed 28 May 2013

We stayed at Rose cottage for 5 nights in May. We were looking for somewhere we could relax and recuperate in a beautiful peaceful setting while having all the comforts of home and we found it in Rose Cottage. The cottage itself is done up to a high standard as has all the benefits of home. The setting is beautiful and having our own little garden area to enjoy some sunshine while eating a lazy breakfast was lovely. The farm itself is located close to some villages for some nice local pubs and is about 15 minutes from Kingsbridge. We would highly recommend Rose Cottage for a rural retreat and Piers and Sue are very gracious hosts.

“Greta place for a cosy break for 2”

Reviewed 29 Apr 2013

We had a lovely stay at Rose cottage. The cottage itself was well kept and had everything we needed. The welcome basket was very useful on our first evening and it was lovely to be able to collect fresh eggs for our breakfast. At the end of the day the wood burner made our evenings very cosy, especially as the winds were positively arctic! The setting was very relaxing with lovely views down to the sea from the patio and we were close to some great places to visit. Coleton Fishacre and Dartmoor are well worth the drive and the Cricket Inn in Beesands, the Tradesmans Arms in Stokenham and the Ship at Noss Mayo (a little bit further afield but on a great section of the coastal path) are great for food.

“Lovely, cosy cottage in the heart of the South Hams”

Reviewed 6 Jan 2013

We stayed in Rose Cottage over the Christmas week and thoroughly enjoyed our break even though we were really unlucky with the weather! The cottage is really cosy and has been renovated beautifully, the kitchen/dining/lounge area is very well laid out and we found the bed wonderfully comfortable. The log burner made for a welcome sight following our wet and windy days out, and we made good use of it. Piers is friendly and helpful and the welcome hamper was a lovely touch, filled with lots of local goodies, including eggs from the farm. We didn't get a chance to wander around the farm due to the almost incessant downpours, but we did manage to get out and about with trips to Dartmouth, Plymouth, Newton Abbott and of course Kingsbridge. We even managed to visit Bigbury on Sea on the only sunny afternoon of the whole week! Great fun to watch the kite and wind surfers whilst sipping a cup of hot chocolate at the Venus Cafe. All in all it was a lovely week and I'd definitely recommend the cottage and wouldn't hesitate to return (preferably in better weather!)

“A perfect week”

Reviewed 2 Nov 2012

We had a wonderful week at Cotmore Farm with our dog. The cottage had high quality appliances and everything you would need apart from wifi signal. The countryside around the farm was beautiful and great for walking, although the road to the beach was steep and had many turns so it was not ideal for strolling down to the sea. It was lovely to learn about the farm and enjoy the variety of farm animals that live on Cotmore. It's also worth following some of the suggestions in the information pack; the coastal walk to the lighthouse via Hallsands, Llannacombe beach and the South Devon Chilli Farm are all definitely worth a visit. Piers and his family were unobtrusive but friendly and helpful. We would recommend Rose Cottage and would love to return in the future. Meg, Ben and Partner (woof)

“Can't fault it - ideal, peaceful place to relax”

Reviewed 30 Oct 2012

A very warm welcome from Piers and Sue, who were most attentive throughout, set the tone. Cotmore Farm is an excellent spot to relax and driving around the area is easy and polite (such a change from Toronto). Plenty to see and do in the area. We stayed in Rose Cottage but saw around the Barn. Both are finished to a very high standard and the cottage had everything we needed for our stay. No complaints at all and we'd love to go back.

“Very special”

Reviewed 23 Oct 2012

My boyfriend and I took a long weekend down to rose cottage. It is the perfect couples retreat surrounded by peace and calm and wonderful countryside. The cottage is delightful perfect size - cosy yet has everything you need. Loved the location , every night seeing the lighthouse flash by. We were welcomed by a lovely hamper aswell as great advice about what to do in the area. Thank you would really recommend it.

“Wonderful week in Devon”

Reviewed 7 Oct 2012

We had a lovely week at Rose Cottage. The cottage is renovated to a high standard with high quality equipment but still has a lot of charm and comfort. The location of the cottage is lovely, with pigs nearby, a paddock for the dog to run off steam in and lots of lovely walks in the area. Piers, the owner, was very friendly and helpful. The french doors into the garden are lovely and let in lots of light. Lovelt pub/restaurant nearby in Beesands, The Cricket Inn. Would definitely recommend and hope to visit again.

“Great Cottage, Fantastic Location”

Reviewed 12 Sep 2012

We had a lovely week staying at Rose Cottage. The cottage itself is well equipped, cosy and stylish. The location is beautiful and peaceful, but within close proximity of a number of great beaches, pubs, walks etc. The owners Piers and Sue were freindly and helpful. We could not have asked for more and hope to return soon
