Location description from owner

The Sardinia region

Sardinia, or Sardegna in Italian, is the largest island in the Mediterranean but perhaps one of the least known. It is part of Italy but in reality the locals refer to Italy as the continent and are certainly proud to be different. With its wild beauty, crystal clear waters, expansive beaches, fabulous climate and fragrant air it is a favourite holiday destination for the Italians. And the locals do everything possible to retain all it's charm. With it's year round sunny climate we take bookings from early April until the end of October.

Costa Paradiso

The Calarossa Residence and private beach lies in an unspoilt natural environment on the island's NW coast, just a few km from the charming port town of Isola Rossa. The gardens of Calarossa with it's small squares and stone archways blend perfectly with the natural surroundings. Book with confidence. Over 300 guests since 2008. Beach 350m walk. Self catering though many restaurants and pizzerias within approx 20 mins, a car is essential

“Peaceful spot out of main season with lovely pool”

Reviewed 30 Sep 2012

Visited the Residence out of the main season so there weren't many oither guests around. Perfect for a peaceful and relaxing few days. Lovely swimming pools still open for use in miid-September - views from there to coast are quite stunning. Apartment was well fitted out with plenty of kitchen stuff and very comfy main bedroom. Terrace nice and private and had some welcome shade. Plenty of room in the apartment for the two of us. Do remember that this is a complex - if you come in height of Summer, think there would be quite a lot of people around and also a lot more noise as there is a kids' club. However, this apartment is towards the top of it all, and so a bit more distant from where all the action takes place. Be aware that entry to Residence is down a 4km unmade track - but not too bad for driving along. Nearest town (Trinita) a few km away has all the basics you will need. Some nice restaurants also in Isola Rossa a few kms away. Found NE Sardinia to be very attractive - much greener than expected, some dramatic scenery, and yes, the beaches really DO have beautiful fine white sand. Can recommend visits to Castelsardo (bit of culture) and to Santa Teresa (pretty littlle town with amazing beach).

If you are looking for a quiet time to go, try April/May or Sept/Oct. In April or Oct you may well find yourselves alone on the beach

“Disappointing”

Reviewed 20 Sep 2012

We were promised internet access, necessary for my husband's business, but it was broken. We were promised sheets for the second bedroom, they were not supplied. We were promised a dishwasher but that was broken too and from the dirty state of its interior and the nasty smell when opened it had probably been broken for some time. The owner did not seem to care about any of these problems when we reported them and asked for assistance. What we did get was very loud music blasting out from the pool area from first thing in the morning until after midnight. It was organised by the young entertainment team of the complex, but there was no mention of it in the advert and we didn't expect it as we thought it was going to be an upmarket complex. The noise was really intrusive and it destroyed any attempt to sit out in peace except for the siesta break when thankfully it stopped for a while. Not that sitting out on the terrace was very comfortable as only hard plastic chairs were supplied. The only comfy seat was a cane chair with small cushions so if you wanted to sunbathe you had to lie on a beach-towel on the floor or pay 5 euros for a sun-lounger round the pool. To be fair, some other things weren't the owners' fault. The jetty which allowed people to swim off the beach, which was rocky, was broken and couldn't be used and when we walked into the accommodation on arrival it was to find the worst ant infestation I've ever encountered, thousands of them crawling all over the kitchen work-surfaces so the first thing we had to do was buy ant-powder! However, I do feel that their advert is misleading - it might be 4km as the crow flies to the nearest town, but by road it was over 10km. This made a big difference because you needed to go out of the complex to find any decent restaurants or shops - the small shop onsite was often closed and the restaurant was poor - so it was quite a lengthy round trip. We soon became very bored with it, particularly as the access to the complex was down a long unmade dirt road which had been damaged by rain so it was bumpy.

Internet access is supplied by the management of the residence and I understand will be in place for the 2013 season however we have removed all reference to wi fi access in our description as it is out of our control and cannot be guaranteed The dishwasher is repaired

“Location that enables one capture the essence of Sardinia.”

Reviewed 15 Dec 2011

Spent a most enjoyable 7 days. Recommend a vehicle of at least 1.6litre for more compfortable travelling. Despite faltering Italian , found the locals extremely hospitable. The actual accomodation was spacious and the facilities apart from restaurant were excellent.

There is wide choice of restaurants within 20 minutes drive, as well as the opportunity to self cater

“Excellent apartment in a beautiful location”

Reviewed 14 Dec 2011

The apartment was excellent; very spacious and clean with a huge enclosed patio area which was perfect for containing our toddler. The resort had a couple of nice (but freezing) pools and it was very convenient having a minimarket and bar on site. The beaches nearby are beautiful.

3 pools - 1 for children only - are all unheated freshwater pools usually just fine in the summer months
