Location description from owner

The Region of Murcia region

COSTA CALIDA: Murcia province and the Costa Calida are still two of Spain's best kept secrets. The Costa Calida region extends along 250 kilometres (155 miles) of coastline. This stretch of the Murcian coastline is blessed with 320 days of sunshine a year and an average temperature of 17 degrees centigrade (63F). There are three beautiful historic cities - the capital city of Murcia, the ancient naval port of Cartegena and the lovely renaissance town of Lorca, crowned with its eye-catching 12th century castle. All three are steeped in history and boast a wealth of fascinating museums, palaces, churches and ancient monuments. WHO (World Health Organization). The Region is home to exquisite Mediterranean cuisine that combines fish and seafood with fresh garden produce, providing a healthy balanced diet. All-in-all the Costa Calida is one of the healthiest places in the world, according to WHO (World Health Organization).

MURCIA: The Capital of the Region is Murcia City, which glories in a mixed legacy from its Moorish founders and Christian baroque. The City has managed to blend its historic past with a modern feel which makes it stand out as a cultural and artistic centre. The glorious 14th century baroque cathedral (highest dome in Spain), the elegant casino, a beautiful monastery, gardens and parks, are among its fine monuments, but there's also a real pleasure in just strolling the streets and enjoying the caf society in year-round fine weather. There are numerous squares and terrace bars in which to relax and enjoy the finest local cuisine. It is shopping heaven with many up market shops, fashionable boutiques and department stores. You can wonder through the pedestrianised areas to beautiful squares which are just waiting to be discovered. Murcia is 15 min. drive from Corvera.

CARTAGENA: The City of Cartagena was founded in pre Roman times. There is a wealth of history and architecture to see as well as the attractive port area where there is a mixture of old and new buildings and the famous Peral submarine built in 1888. Cartegena is a historical town founded in 227BC, by the Carthaginians. The city is surrounded by five hills which in theory made the city easy to defend. Many of the forts, castles and guns built for this purpose can still be seen today. The city contains many Roman ruins including the Roman amphitheatre, discovered in 1987, and is still undergoing excavation today. Art Nouveau buildings, including the majestic Ayuntamiento (town hall) and interesting museums are a reflection of the importance and prosperity of this harbour city steeped in 3,000 years of history. If you are exhausted by all the sightseeing and shopping there are many parks and shaded squares, particularly in the old part of the town, where you can take a break. There are street side cafs, restaurants and many good bars where you can sit and eat/drink and watch the world go by. Cartagena is 30 mins drive away.

THE MAR MENOR: The Mar Menor (Little Sea) is a unique area within the region of Murcia; it is the largest Salt Water Lake in Europe. The Mar Menor is a salt water lagoon formed by the Mediterranean Sea being cut off by the La Manga land strip. The shallow waters are very safe for bathing and water sports and there are over 7km of blue flag beaches. It is open to the sea at its northern end and being quite shallow, is excellent for children as its beaches shelve very gently. In summer, the waters are literally like a warm bath. The villages around the Mar Menor have been tourist destinations for the Spanish for many years. The beautiful beaches of resorts such as Lo Pagan, Santiago de la Ribera and Los Alcazares (a resort even in Roman times) are on the crystal clear Mar Menor. The coastal village of Lo Pagan, San Pedro del Pinatar, is home to the soothing mud baths, renowned to relieve the aches and pains of arthritis and rheumatism. The stunning beaches of the Mar Menor and the Mediterranean are just 25 minutes drive from Corvera.

LA MANGA STRIP: On the far side of the Mar Menor is the La Manga Strip which is unique in Europe, having sea on both sides; One with waves and one practically calm all year long; at some points it is only 2mins walk between both sides. Sunrises over the Mediterranean can be spectacular and this whole area is a Mecca for lovers of water sports of all kinds, sailing, windsurfing, kite surfing, jet skis, snorkelling, scuba diving or just swimming. There are many marinas in the area and several schools for these activities. The Islas Hormigas underwater reserve is a protected area that is World renown in diving circles.

CABO DE PALOS: A working fishing village located at the base of the La Manga strip, is well known throughout the region for its collection of very fine fish restaurants. Several of the diving schools at the village of Cabo de Palos take trips out to the Islas Hormigas.

CALBLANQUE BEACH: Further south is the Calblanque Regional Park which is a protected area where mountains plunge into the Mediterranean. It is home to some of the best beaches in the area totally unspoilt and truly breathtaking, not to be missed.

SKIING: Sierra Nevada Skiing is the best in Spain, it has 61km of ski slopes with 45 pistes and 6 off-piste routes. There are 2 cable cars, 12 chair lifts and 5 ski lifts. The ski resort is open from 9am to 5pm and has a number of excellent Ski schools for all abilities in Snowboarding or Skiing. The resort 'Pradollano' can be reached with ease in 3.5 h along 2 main roads with some of the most amazing scenery in Spain. This is a great option for a day trip or a one night stop over from Corvera Golf and Country Club. The season runs between late Nov to April.

WALKING AND WILDLIFE: The Sierra Espuna is ideal for those who enjoy walking and wildlife, it has both hiking and mountain-biking trails and pine forests which climb up the mountain sides. On the lower slopes of the Sierra are many vineyards which produce a good quality table grape.

Corvera

CORVERA GOLF AND COUNTRY CLUB: The apartment was completed in May 2010 and is situated south facing so that the garden & terrace area have sunshine for most of the day. The region boasts the most sunniest days averaging over 320 per year. Corvera Golf and Country Club is a property complex geared towards high quality tourism and residence. All the properties are built around the excellent 18 hole par 72 golf course and there are many communal pools, children's play areas and gardens around the complex plus tennis and sports courts. For your safety and peace of mind there is 24 hour security on the complex with surveillance cameras and regular patrols. The resort is ideal for all the family and for those keen to take part in the many activities which the region/area has to offer.

CORVERA TOWN: The golf resort is situated on the outskirts of Corvera, a rustic typically Spanish village with a lovely church. Corvera centre is approx. 10 min walk from the golf resort entrance and has all of the necessary amenities to meet your immediate requirements. The village offers 3 banks, two supermarkets, a butcher a chemist (English speaking), a bakery and a fishmonger along with several Tapas bars and local Spanish restaurants. The town is home to a fantastic local market held in the village centre every Sunday morning.

LOCAL PLACES TO VISIT: If you want a break from golf there are some lovely places to visit near to Corvera. Caravaca de la Cruz is one of the world's five holy cities. 'The cult of the true cross' goes back to the 13th century. Alhama de Murcia is also worth visiting with its Moorish castle, Roman spas and beautiful church. On the southern edge of the Sierra Espuna about 7km out of Totana is the sleepy medieval village of Aledo with it’s Moorish tower and church on a rocky promontory.

Between Aledo and Totana is the La Santa monastery which has been restored and turned into a hotel. The church here is stunning with almost every inch painted with scenes from the bible and the gardens are a fantastic place just to relax.
