The Tuscany region
The house is situated near the charming little village of Montanare in southern Tuscany. This romantic and tranquil family home is the ideal base to explore the historic hill towns of Tuscany and Umbria. Other attractions include the Palio in Siena and the Giostra del Saraceno (jousting) in Arezzo. Perugia, Assisi, Siena, Montepulciano, Piensa, Citta di Castello amongst others are all within easy access. There is sailing on Lake Trasimeno, twenty minutes away.
Casa Il Campo is a five minute walk from the village of Montanare, which has a bar/convenience store, a post office and a lovely Tuscan Trattoria (Il Molino). The village of Pergo, five minutes by car has a good Pizzaria, a well-stoked supermarket (Mario, the owner, is a first rate butcher) and a nice Cafe. For bigger shops we recommend the Co-op in Camuccia.
The nearest town to Casa Il Campo is the Etruscan hill town of Cortona. Besides beautiful churches and the Celle (the retreat) of San Francis of Assissi, Cortona's Museo Diocesano and Museo Etrusco are world renowned. Cortona hosts the Tuscan Sun Festival (classical music - first two weeks in August). The Cortona Antiques' Fair is one of the most important in Italy (September).
The historic centre of Cortona has been pedestrianized. Along the Via Nazionale you will find a number of lovely stores, ranging from the local pottery maker, two antiques' dealers, a butcher, a greengrocer to Barchelli's, a lovely cafe. Do not miss the central square and adjoining Piazza Signorelli.
Cortona is known throughout Italy for its food, particularly its beef. For a small town it has a remarkable number of excellent restaurants ranging from simple pizzaria (la Grotta, la Logetta) to very elegant (Tonino's, Osteria del Teatro).

This place is special. It’s almost like a time machine. You can easy picture life way back in the old days, but at the same time you have a modern kitchen, pool, nice bathrooms… The house was clean and in good condition. We (family of 5 ) stayed in the house during the heat wave, so since the house is without air-condition it did get on the hot side. But there are big floor standing fans in every room, so it wasn’t really a big issue. I would without a doubt go back.

"IDYLLIC VILLA IN AN IDYLLIC SETTING"
Our stay commenced with prosecco and snacks served by the lovely pool after our late afternoon swim after arrival, which set the standard for the rest of our visit. The accommodation is of even better quality than we had expected; all was very spacious, comfortable and every necessity provided for. The bathrooms were excellent and modern and so too the bedrooms and the three living areas. We loved the traditional open-beamed ceilings too. As there were six of us, two ladies shared one room. but were happy to do so. For most meals we dined outdoors, under the loggia off the kitchen, except for the last night, when we used the dining room for a celebratory banquet provisioned and cooked by the local lady available to house guests. At our request, she chose for us traditional Tuscan fare which had intense and deep flavours and used the local products, preparing and cooking all in the well-equipped kitchen; she even gave us the recipe for the cantucci biscotti to go with the vin Santo at the end of the dinner. Her price was more than reasonable and she was friendly and generous in spirit. Most of our meals were taken in the vine-covered loggia which was a lovely place to sit, close to the kitchen for convenience, yet next to the garden and the lovely plantings and within sight of the swimming pool and olive grove. We enjoyed fruit from the fig tree and herbs from the garden beds, nuts from the trees and flowers for the table too. The villa's location also suited us perfectly Our excursions included to Perugia by train, Anghiari (the excellent linen factory and shop of Busatti linens), Sansepolcro, Monterchi (part of the Piero della Francesco "trail"), a vineyard in Montepulciano and a local very fine restaurant in lovely and spacious gardens. We could also have easily gone to Florence and Siena, but kept them for later visits, as we were enjoying the country ambience so much. The early morning walkers amongst us seemed to take longer and longer each day, until I discovered the reason by joining them and finding that the walk terminated at the local all-purposes shop where coffee and a pastry was enjoyed! Our stay at "Casa al Campo" was a high point of our European travels in 2013 and sharing it brought our friendships of 25+ years even closer together; idyllic villa in idyllic setting, perfect location for sightseeing and cultural touring and wonderful food being available were the keynotes of our stay. It was also enhanced by the ease of dealing with our "padrona" and the team in place to care for guests. Truly a magnificent experience we would recommend to all.

"Late autumn holiday in Tuscany"
he place was exactly as described, in a very nice and quiet area and at the same time fairly close to Cortona and Camucia, where all necessary facilities could be found there were a few practical problems, but the local support was OUTSTANDING and problems were quickly resolved the only minor complaint was that the pool was not shielded at night, an as the nights were rather cold, the water became fairly cold

"Treasure in Tuscany"
We had a great week at Casa II Campo in March. Would love to come back in September sometime so we could enjoy the lovely grounds and pool. This was a good base for exploring Cortona, Pienza, Montepulciano, Perugia and much more. The train station was about 15 minutes away and it was easy to catch the hour and a half train to Florence. We ate at some wonderful restaurants in the area, several in Cortona, and were lucky to walk in on a Womans Day celebration at the restaurant right there in Montanare. We have stayed at many homes in Europe and around the world and would highly recommend this home for anyone looking to explore the Tuscany area. Thank You Sylvie for all your help in arranging our stay. Scott and Marjorie

"Heaven in Tuscany"
Casa Il Campo is absolute heaven. We spent two wonderful weeks here and just didn't want to leave. Swimming, reading, cooking, wandering around the orchard, picking ripe figs off the tree and generally relaxing. Sylvie has definitely thought of everything. The house was beautiful and clean, beds really comfortable and the kitchen had everything we needed for mouthwatering cook ups! I did a lot of research (that's actually an understatement) before I decided on Sylvie's home and I have to say was definitely not let down. Sylvie and everyone we dealt with at Casa Il Campo was delightful. We'd love to come back.

"Captured our heart..."
I almost don't want to give to glowing a review as I am worried the house will be inundated with people and we want to go back. It was a perfect week. The house is absolutely beautiful, simple, stylish, full of all the little details that only the most consummate hostess would think of from tea lights to a bottle of home-made olive oil waiting for us... Gorgeous garden full of olive trees, vines, roses and lavender surrounded by rolling forest covered hills. A friendly helpful team of housekeeper Gabriella, pool-lady Franka and two delightful cleaning ladies. We had barbecues most nights, sitting on the beautiful terrace under an archway of jasmine. If you like delicious food, beautiful countryside and a perfect house go (but not too often!) We never wanted to leave...

We just returned from a glorious two week stay at Casa il Campo. It was without a doubt the best family holiday we’ve ever had. When we were searching for our family vacation, Tuscany seemed like the perfect midpoint for a family coming from NY and Singapore. The pictures of Casa il Campo with its stone walls and perfect symmetry seemed the quintessential Italian villa we were looking for. When we arrived, it far exceeded our expectations. The house is situated among corn fields, surrounded by hills and exudes an Old World charm. Set off a secondary road with very little traffic, it is very peaceful and quiet. The house and everything in it was in an immaculate condition. It is tastefully furnished and clearly the owner, Sylvie, has thought of everything. From vessels to books, linens to toys, the house is complete. All the beds in the five bedrooms are very comfortable. The cupboards in the kitchen were well stocked not only of enormous quantity of cooking utensils but also of spices, coffee and food for the first two days. Two maids came in twice each week to change the towels and clean the whole place. These charming ladies are also a great source of information about the facilities in the neighbourhood. We cannot say enough about the big garden. Our two grandchildren had a great time exploring the vineyard and just rolling on the lawn. Because we had toddlers with us, the owner was kind enough to fence off the swimming pool for safety. We had a wonderful time dining on the terrace, smelling the jasmine and looking at the stars. The location of Casa il Campo is perfect for exploring the most exciting part of Tuscany. All the towns one would like to go to, like Assisi, Pienza, Montalcino, Montepulcino are a short drive away. We took the train to Florence for an overnight stay. It took us a mere hour and a half to get there. The nearest town, Cortona is 15 mins drive away. We went there often for the great views and the restaurants recommended by Sylvie. They were all excellent. All in all it was the most exciting and yet relaxing vacation for us. We would highly recommend Casa il Campo to family and friends. We ourselves would love to return!

"A (large!) piece of heaven in Tuscany!"
We cannot praise this villa, its staff and its owner enough. A group of 7 of us stayed in early September 2011. The villa exceeded all of our expectations - the pictures are good but dont give it the justice it deserved! The staff were very friendly on arrival and explained eveything to us. Franca who came to tned the pool and gardens each day was lovely, and we got to know her as the week went on. We even arranged for Franca to bake a wonderful cake for our friend who turned 30 whilst we were there. The villa was inundated with space and we had more than enough to do around the house; day trips fell by the way side as we enjoyed the villa, the pool, its grounds and its extensive kitchen to whip up goodies everyday! I cant begin to touch on the fact the house came with everything - from a massive fridge to store all your food (read; wine!) and the huge cupboard of pool goodies and toys! I cannot recomend it enough - book this place, put your feet up and enjoy!
