Further Details
Once part of the Etruscan kingdom of Etruria, this is countryside steeped in mystery. The Tuscan Umbrian border area still holds secrets that archaeologists and historians are still unravelling. Due to recent finds Cortona, our nearest town, has become home to the biggest Etruscan museum (the MAEC) outside the Villa Giulia in Rome. We are close to Lake Trasimeno where Hannibal the infamous Carthaginian general had his famous victory over the Romans in 217 B.C. Today the lake is a delightful place to visit for picnics and boat trips to the Islands. Just outside Cortona lies one of the most precious medieval monasteries built on the rock cave where Saint Francis sought shelter during his numerous trips through Cortona. The local, supermarket, pizzeria, restaurant, bar and clothes shop are within 10 minutes walk. The closest banks are in Cortona or Camucia, a 10 minute drive away. Things To Do in Cortona. Cortona offers a huge variety of cultural events such as:
“The Archaeological Week” includes guided tours, theater, plays and evening events. The “Cortona Dance Vintage Festival” is dancing in the piazza. “Festival di Musica Sacra” is classic organ music set in our beautiful churches as well as a few yearly Gospel concerts. "Cortona on the Move" is a very extensive photographic yearly event with shows and workshops.
There are always new Art shows in the local galleries too.

Cortona

You probably already have an idea of just how beautiful this region of Italy is: Rolling hillsides, fields of sunflowers and poppies, vineyards, fresh food and wine the natural warmth of the Tuscan people. These are just a few of the images you might have thought about when planing your vacation here in Tuscany.

Whilst you are here, we can help organise cooking classes, truffle hunting, car rental, scooter hire and more.

Then there are the Tuscan towns, villages and Markets

“We have been visiting this delightful villa for the last 20 years.”

Reviewed 23 Jun 2013

We have been visiting this house for the last 20 years. We came here on honeymoon and have been returning, now with children, eversince. One of the best things about here is the delightful owner who is very attentive to visitor's needs. The viila is clean, comfortable and relaxed and has such a wonderful library of books, you can get away without lugging them in your case (although things different now with Kindle). There is a superb swimming pool and garden with plenty of sun loungers. Horse riding and walks in the cool hills above the villa with views of Lake Trasimona.. Car is an absolute necessity. Two minutes away is an excellent supermarket and pizza bar where there are always friendly locals to meet. The magical and beautiful city of Cortona is 20 minutes away and there are several different ways of getting there, worth asking the owner, as fun to take different routes. Owner hugely knowledgable about Art and museums and ask her to tell you about restaurant on the other side of Cortona and also where St Francis of Assisi slept. There is a rather steep staircase going up to the bedrooms so very small children need to be helped.

“beautiful hillside in the middle of all the great Tuscan / Umbrian places to visit”

Reviewed 29 May 2013

I have been here every year over the last few years. it is one of my favourite places in the world to visit. I love its situation on the side of a beautiful hillside which is quiet and rural and yet close to so many Tuscan (and Umbrian) sites - Cortona on the doorstep, then Arezzo, Perugia, Assisi, Siena, Orvieto, Florence etc. The house has been lovingly restored, including its original terracotta floors, by Louise who is an archeologist and painting restorer. Its has a great garden and generous sized swimming pool. There are wonderful walks from the house along the fire break and over the hillside. if it isn't too hot the walk up to Cortona is amazing with vistas for miles.

“very nice house in a beautiful environment.”

Authentic 18th century stone house with pool and lovely garden. Close to interesting cities, such as Cortona, Assisi, Arezzo and Orvieto.
