Location description from owner

The Tuscany region

Cortona is situated between Arezzo and Perugia, the area of the ancient Etruscan civilisation ....
A museum of Etruscan Art and tombs are a remarquable testimony of the local history and the Renaissance
period with the architecture of the palaces and paintings in Churches and museums when the Medici owned Cortona are a visual trace of the elegant past of Cortona .... Arezzo, half-an-hour away, Perugia, 40 minutes away and Lake Trasimeno where the Battles of Hanibal took place, 25 minutes away are other interesting places for their rich history and Art ....

there is a new private pool at the top fo the road, which has a reasonable entrance fee and a restaurant and bar.

Cortona

Cortona offers open-air operas in the Summer, classical concerts in churches and in the local theater , jazz-festivals , wine and food tasting , medieval plays and lots of pizzerias and restaurants with terraces offer Tuscan specialties .... Alike other medieval towns in Tuscany , roads tend to be steep , so walking to discover is the best way , for young people keen on mountainbykes, the area is ideal ....Swimming in the new splendid swimming-pool with bar and restaurant five minutes away from us, by the tennis-courts with modest charges is another activity .... Montepulciano, the wine-tasting and cheeses area as well as Chianti , one to two hours away on lovely country-roads , another excursion and hot-baths in the area by car ....Florence is one hour away by train and Rome circa two hours with good train-service from our station Camucia, ten minutes from us ....

“Our Saviour”

Reviewed 16 Apr 2012

For our main family holiday we drove from England to Italy in August 2011. Our pre-booked accommodation was appalling, but this is not a review for them. We needed accommodation quickly to save our holiday and Marie-Claire (the owner of La Torre Dei Venti) quickly replied to our plea. We were welcomed with warmth and our little son with open arms. The property itself is a destination with lots of old character and charm along with stunning views of the rolling hills. A short walk along, the very elegant, Viale dei Giardini Pubblici brings you into the heart of the beautiful old city of Cortona. There is much about this online written far better than I could wish to describe. For our small family and our little son the best thing about La Torre Dei Venti was Marie-Claire. She offered advise on where to go to eat, shop and visit. She took us to places only locals knew about and personally guided us to the supermarket, railway station and a hidden treasure at Lake Trasimeno. We would love to go back and our son will make sure we do. *Note: I must say this property is for couples or friends mainly. Our son was welcomed due to our desperate situation and luckily bonded very well with our saviour.

“We Have Returned Many Times”

Reviewed 6 Apr 2012

We have spent many wonderful days at La Torre Dei Venti and plan to return. The location, the views, the look and feel of the compact and convenient little apartment suit us exactly. We also very much appreciate Marie Claire's cheerful good humor and knowledge of the area. Of Cortona itself, we are continually fascinated by all this lovely Italian Hill town has to offer. Though there are many wonderful places within easy driving distance and well worth day trips, it's just as easy to spend an entire vacation in and around Cortona.

“A place of dreams”

Reviewed 4 Apr 2012

There are very few places in the world that will make you feel like you belong there and La Torre dei Venti is one of them. The accommodation has the old world charm that everyone looks for when travelling to Italy; the renovated original stone structure with a clay roof, olive trees, cuckoo birds, beautiful flowers, a stunning hill side vista, as well as Etruscan, Roman, Medieval and Renaissance history to explore. The house is nestled on the side of the hill that the magnificent town of Cortona is built on and you may drive or walk there easily. The town is fascinating and has been left in its authentic state. The interior of the apartment is very quaint and artistically decorated. It is very comfortable, clean and with all of the amenities that you could want. The photos do not do it justice. The landlady, Marie-Claire, is a wonderful woman who is a joy to talk to and has so much information about the area. Make a point to have one of her excellent gourmet meals. She will recommend the most wonderful wines for you as well. My husband and I have been imagining this amazing place since leaving Italy and we are looking forward to returning there many times.
