Location description from owner

The Tuscany region

The region is located in the central, western part of the country, north of Rome and south of Genoa. It is bounded by the Apennine Mountains to the North and East, the Apuan Alps on the north west and by the Tyrrhenian Sea on the West.

From the Etruscans to the Romans to the Renaissance, Tuscany is possibly the greatest repository of art in the world, from extraordinary paintings and sculpture to frescoes and architectural masterpieces.

Tuscany: a row of cypress trees breaking the blue sky on a rolling hilltop. Olive groves and grapevines marching tidily down the side of a slope. Little medieval hill towns gazing down upon a country that has been carefully cultivated.

The Chianti area, between Florence and Siena, is one of the most beautiful countrysides in Italy and a famous wine production area. Florence is the capital of Tuscany. Other important cities are Siena, Pisa, Arezzo, Pistoia, Prato, Lucca, Livorno, Grosseto, Massa Carrara.

Cortona

Ideally situated for visiting the most important cultural and tourist centres in both Tuscany (Arezzo 25 km, Siena 65 km, Florence 90 km, Pisa 180 km) and Umbria (Trasimeno Lake 18 km, Perugia 50 km, Gubbio 65 km, Assisi 70 km, Todi 90 km, Orvieto 95 km).

Furthermore, from the nearby railway station (5 km) you can comfortably reach by train Florence, Rome, Orvieto, Perugia or Arezzo.

Nearest airports: Perugia 50 km, Florence 110 km, Pisa 175 km, Bologna 215 km, Rome 230 km.

“Everything and more!!!”

Reviewed 9 Apr 2013

Upon our arrival, we were greeting by the owner (Mrs. Claudia) and given a tour of the house, beautiful gardens and pool area. She showed us how to use everything and asked us if we had any questions. We stayed with our 3 children in the main house on the ground level. The description of the property is very accurate. We spent most of our time either by the pool or by the smaller BBQ area off the front of the property enjoying the view of the hills and city below. The property is stunning. The view, flowers, landscaping is everything you would expect of your stay in Tuscany. The house itself was clean and spacious. It has classic italian decor with modern ammenities in the kitchen and bathrooms (including a washer and dryer, which was so nice). The kitchen was stocked with all of the necessary items for preparing a great Italian meal. We ate most of our meals at the outside table. There is a great grocery store just minutes from the property. The ancient hillside town of Cortona is only a 15 minute drive. The location is great because it allows you to take day trips to other tourist locations in Tuscany and Umbria and still be back for an evening swim. A car is essential to get the most out of your stay at this property. The secluded location is great because it is peaceful and private, yet so close to the market, restaurants and town. The only thing you hear during the day are the sounds of birds and church bells. We had a great time during our week stay at Poggio Sereno (Casa Maria Laura). We can't wait to go back. We can't imagine staying anywhere else now.
