Description

This is a place surrounded by green, where the stars fill the sky. You can hear the owls call, the songbirds sing and the buzzards mewing as they coast the thermal currents down the valley. A peaceful retreat for two, perfect for a cosy, luxurious stay, winter or summer. Well situated to explore what Cornwall has to offer - and then come home to a wood burner, comfy sofa, reclining chair, a good kitchen and a big big bed. We are deep in countryside, but handy for Tremough, Falmouth, coastal walks, Helford River with its coves and creeks - and not too far away from the Lizard, the beaches of the north coast and the Georgian towns of Helston and Truro.

Our seven acre holding is situated up a track, about 1/5 mile long. It is no longer agricultural, but mostly planted to woodland, with a footpath taking you over stiles, fields and through bluebell woods to the nearest village of Constantine.

The heavy horses which once worked Tresahor Vean Farm were stabled in what is now Owl House. It is attached at the west end to a courtyard of converted mid-19th century barns, with stonework of unusually high quality for what were once agricultural buildings. The ceiling in the living room area is almost double height and the tall arched entrances with cleverly cut key post, are now glazed, one with a double opening. Owl has a hall, a large living room/kitchen (20' x 17') and an architect designed cedar extension with generous bedroom and a bathroom. A patio garden with table and seating leads from the bedroom's double doors. ( A good place for morning coffee or a meal or a glass of wine.) The house is well equipped, with good quality linen, kitchen appliances etc. There are prints, paintings and flowers - and some textiles from our son and daughter-in-law's printing studio, Particle Press and a Thousand Paper Cranes.. Some of the furniture is from the many independent antique and retro shops in Falmouth High Street. There is central heating and a wood burner with logs supplied. We offer a welcome pack of a loaf of bread, butter, eggs, milk, tea, coffee and a few treats, just in case you don't want to go shopping right away. If you give us notice, we may be able to organise one to one classes in the printing studio. For example, how to make a lampshade. Or how to screen print. Just ask.

We offer a welcome pack of milk, a good loaf of bread, butter, eggs, ground coffee and tea (and a few treats)- enough to keep you going until you get to the shops! Paper towels, washing up liquid, salt, pepper, dishwasher tabs, soap are all provided.

Wheelchair access is possible - but please check beforehand re your individual requirements. Guests may like to note that the bathroom is standard, with a standard bathing arrangement of bath and overhead shower.

A travel cot and baby bouncer chair are available and babies are welcome, but we ask them to bring their own bed linen! We regret that we cannot accommodate pets. Owl House is a non-smoking property.

Owl House has its own drive with parking for at least two cars. You enter the house through a tiled entrance hall with space for boots and coats. The bathroom (with bath and overhead shower) - and the bedroom lead off the hall.

In the bedroom, there is a six foot wide double bed. Bed linen and towels are provided. Double doors from the bedroom lead onto a little patio garden with bench, chairs and table.

On the other side of the hall, through a glazed door, is the open plan living room/kitchen. The kitchen is equipped with electric oven, gas hob, dishwasher, microwave etc. and a dining table for four. In the sitting area there is a woodburning stove and comfortable seating for four, a woodburner, digital TV, CD and DVD players and a selection of DVDs, books and games. A cot and highchair are also available. A washing machine and dryer housed at the end of our studio block across the yard, are for the sole use of Owl House guests.

“Cornish heaven”

A beautiful retreat in a truly heavenly location. All Mod.Cons.of course, but to a very high standard . The owners are a delight and cater for your every need. Relatively easy access. Set in a mature wooded location amidst surrounding farmland, quiet, peaceful and relaxing. I spent many evenings sitting under a star filled sky, hungrily breathing in the perfumed air, listening to the murmur of unseen wildlife and the soft rustle of the breeze in the trees. I would return in an instant. Don't bring the kids! This place inspires romance and poetry.

The perfect location for a peaceful break. Cottage is well equipped and welcome pack very useful as it contained everything needed for your first breakfast and more besides. Fresh flowers a lovely touch. Jenny the owner had told us in advance that unfortunately she would not be able to meet us when we arrived but she arranged for her son Tom to greet us. We did meet Jenny later in the week when she checked to see that we had everything we needed. The log burner is great. We had a lovely time revisiting Cornwall. Thank you Jenny.

We decided on the spur of the moment to have a few days away in Cornwall. Owl House seemed to fit the bill and it didn't disappoint. The converted barn is an annexe to the main house. It is beautifully and newly fitted out, very warm and cosy and with a great wood burning stove. The bed was huge! We loved the peace and quiet, although we were sorry not to meet the owners as they were away at the time. But a local farmer met us in the lane and chatted for at least an hour, so we didn't feel too alone! Owl House is a great place to recharge the batteries. Only one thing - there was no signal for our phone so in an emergency, not sure how we would have summoned help - but this was only because the owners were away at the time. Can't recommend this lovely place highly enough. We will return.

A last minute booking, but so glad it was made. Peter and Jenny have created beautiful self-catering accommodations in Owl House and Hafhouse, and we were fortunate enough to be able to stay in each of them. We had a week booked in Owl House, with an additional night spent in Hafhouse. We arrived late on Friday evening, yet Owl House was very welcoming, with a couple of lights left on so we didn't turn up at a dark house (nobody likes doing that, after all). We had been left a lovely welcome pack consisting of a lovely loaf of bread, milk, cheese, butter, eggs, ground coffee and home-made chutney. Not to mention the lovely flowers positioned around the house. From the moment we arrived we felt completely at home. Owl House and Hafhouse are well appointed, clean, tidy and spacious. The conversions from their former life as barns have been nothing but inspirational. The photo's in the listing on Holiday Lettings (http://www.holidaylettings.co.uk/rentals/falmouth/178898) are great but really don't do it justice. Owl House anf Hafhouse are ideal 'get away from it all' places to stay, where you can forget it all, and just enjoy the wonderful surroundings and Peter and Jenny's hospitality. From a location point of view, Owl House is pretty much half way between Falmouth and Helston, so very accessible. Thank you for a wonderful holiday.

“peace + tranquility”

We had a wonderful week of peace + tranquility at this lovely cottage.The cottage is beautiful and a credit to the owners , everything was spot on ,the milk in the fridge so we could have a cuppa after our long journey was a godsend . The owners even gave us a nice loaf of bread + eggs to start us off it was a nice gesture. The cottage was very very clean when we arrived, and pete +jenny gave us a warm welcome, they are lovely people. Location of the cottage is down a little lane but you are not far from anywhere Falmouth is just down the road ,there are beaches not to far away ,i could go on and on its just wonderful .

How do damage deposits work?
