Description from owner

Description

This 300 year-old traditional stone watermill has been cleverly converted into three individual and attractive cottage-style apartments. In an idyllic riverside setting beside tumbling Torver Beck, each of the three apartments (Dipper, Wren and Robin) are full of character and retain many original features such as exposed stone walls and beams, whilst ensuring comfort and warmth after the day's activities.

From the car-park a grassy lane beside the beck leads to a large wooded field (sheep-free - a haven for dogs) and on to the secluded lake-shore, where you can sit in peace and enjoy the views, or jump into a canoe to explore the lake and the island.

Formed from the original wheelhouse, Dipper cottage has a wonderful outlook straight onto the rocky waterfalls of the beck. The front door enters surprisingly at first floor level into a beamed entrance hall off which lie the 2 bedrooms and bathroom. The master bedroom looks out over the beck and boasts a king-size bed.

The second bedroom has twin beds. The bathroom has a powerful pumped shower over the bath, plus WC, heated towel rail and wash-basin.

Quaint winding stairs lead down to an attractive and carefully thought-out open-plan living area comprising smart fitted kitchen, dining area and comfy seating with flat-screen TV & DVD player. The low window-seat has a great view straight out onto the pretty waterfalls. Digital electric radiators provide just the right level of heating at the touch of a button.

Location description from owner

The Duddon Valley region

Here in the heart of England's beautiful Lake District you can enjoy the peace and tranquillity of the countryside so beloved by Wordsworth, Beatrix Potter, Arthur Ransome (to name but a few) and yet be within easy reach of charming villages and towns with all the attractions they have to offer.

For the more adventurous - climb nearby Old Man of Coniston, bring your own sailing dinghy or windsurfer, go horse-riding at Torver, or get a thrill on the mountain biking trails in Grizedale Forest.

Popular tourist centres such as Ambleside, Grasmere and Hawkshead are about half an hour away by car. Half an hour in the opposite direction gets you to the beach at Haverigg with miles of sand and large sand dunes - great for kite flying.

Coniston

Sunny Bank is situated on the quiet western shore of Coniston Water. Surrounded by fantastic scenery on all sides you don't need to go far to enjoy the beauty of the Lakes. Wonderful walks from the doorstep take you along the lake-shore or up onto Torver Common, with its pretty tarns and breathtaking lake and mountain views. Hire our canoe (or bring your own boat) and have fun exploring the lake including Swallows & Amazons 'Wild Cat' island.

Torver, a mile away, has two pubs, both serving excellent food. Coniston, 4 miles north, is a small but busy typical Lakeland village, with several shops and a variety of pubs and places to eat. Ulverston (6 miles south) has a great supermarket (Booths), cobbled streets and many interesting shops.

The cottage was really well equipped and a good base for exploring. Took 2 kayaks with us and the access to lake was good. Great time spent down by jetty and over to the island. Hope to go back sometime.
