Description

This villa sits above the lake in Pognana Lario, a small group of houses nestled on a hill, 12 km northeast of Como. Built during the turn of the last century, Villa Luna has a beautiful garden and boasts wonderful views of the lake. To reach Villa Luna, you have to park your car on the road above and need to walk approx. 200 m downhill on a path with many steps (365 steps - yes, we counted them). The lake is then further 100 m downhill (254 more steps). The steps are quite steep and made of cobbled stone, so this property is not suitable for elderly guests or anyone with walking difficulties. Once on the shore you will find a small harbour and a landing stage for ferries, which stop in summer once or twice a day. Walking along the lake shore, you will find after 150 m a place where you can enter into the water. In summer, only when the water level is lower, there is even a very small gravel beach.Pognana has a grocery store, a post office and a bar. The next restaurant is a 10-minute

This villa sits above the lake in Pognana Lario, a small group of houses nestled on a hill, 12 km northeast of Como. In summer, only when the water level is lower, there is even a very small gravel beach.Pognana has a grocery store, a post office and a bar. The next restaurant is a 10-minute walk away. The well-tended vacation resort 'La Cava Club' (open only in summer) is also a 10-minute walk from the house (approx. 800 m), and has a tennis court, boat hire, swimming pool (with baby pool) and a breakfast bar. The bus stop for Como is directly in front of the bar of Pognana. The bus ride to Como takes approx. 30 minutes. A visit to the smart town of Como is a pleasant contrast to the peace and tranquility of the villa. In Como, famous for its production of fine silk, elegance surrounds you: beautiful architecture, elegant shops and stylish, wood-panelled cafés and restaurants and of course several museums await your visit. Como has a railway station from where you can take a quick train ride to Milan. Visit Bellagio (18 km), known as the pearl of the lake and considered one of the most beautiful towns in all of Europe, or make a daytrip to Tremezzo or Lugano in Switzerland. A gate with two lion-crowned pillars leads to this Art Nouveau villa. At the edge of the property, a small stream burbles down to the lake. A plaque shows that the house was built in 1909. Villa Luna has been plastered in pale pink with red shutters. A pink oleander grows at the entrance to the house. The villa is built on three floors. The furnishings are comfortable and simple. Don't expect luxury - this is provided by the wonderful view of the lake and the peaceful location. The sitting room and dining room walls are painted in soft apricot colours and the floor is antique: red, gray and white hexagonal tiles, typical for the area. The upper floor has well-polished wooden floors. The dining room with its long wooden table is particularly cosy. There are original lamps from the 1920s and typical antique wardrobes in several of the bedrooms. The bedrooms look towards the lake, some rooms have a balcony.Villa Luna is a cosy house with a nostalgic, romantic atmosphere. It is a place where time has stood still and where one is reminded of one's childhood. The house is built on a rock and there is a typical small grotto in which wine and cheese used to be kept fresh. There is also a pretty garden with seats where the guests can enjoy outdoor meals under a pergola, a sunny patio, a vegetable garden with lettuce, tomatoes and parsley. The garden has a palm, a fig tree, rose beds, bay bushes, rosemary and neat lawns. Villa Luna has a great deal of charm but enjoys guests who appreciate the special flair of this house: the atmosphere reminds one of days long gone, as everything was so much simple.
