Location description from owner

The Rhône-Alpes region

Set in the Massif of Mont Blanc, the highest mountain in Europe, Combloux was described by Victor Hugo as " The Pearl of Mont Blanc".It is an alpine village with the rustic charm of chalets , old farms and countryside.

Apart from being a friendly family ski resort it is an excellent centre throughout the year for a host of sporting and cultural activities. Interesting places to visit are Megeve, only 10 minutes away, with wonderful shopping , concerts and activities, historic Geneva, lakeside Annecy and Evian and Chamonix with its activities, cable car, funicular railway to the Glacier and narrow gauge railway through the mountains to Martigny in Switzerland .

Combloux

One hour from Geneva. A free shuttle bus runs winter and summer from the end of the road to the ski slopes and to the village. Combloux has a small supermarket and a range of other shops and restaurants, and is just a few minutes’ drive from the house, which in turn is just a two minute drive from the ski slopes in winter – or great walking in summer. The village has a Wednesday market and a tourist office which co-ordinates lots of local activities.

There is a larger supermarket within a 10 minute drive, and the valley town of Sallanches, with hypermarkets and shopping outlets, is approx. 20 minutes’ drive. Combloux as a ski resort has a good network of slopes with altitude 1200m – 1900m, and is also connected to some of the Megeve slopes. The resort offers a good range of skiing for beginners to advanced and has an excellent ski school. In summer you can swim in the bio-lake in the village, unique in its natural water cleansing system, with lovely lake-side grassy areas to sun-bathe, and adjacent restaurant and beauty centre offering a range of treatments. As well as this there is a wide network of paths throughout the mountains, and some lifts function in summer for both walkers and mountain bike enthusiasts. Other local attractions include the traditional alpine town of Megeve, one of the oldest ski resorts in France and made famous by the Rothschild family. Megeve is just a 10 minute drive, where you can enjoy a range of beautiful designer shops, pretty streets with plenty of cafés and restaurants, as well as a large weekly Friday market. There are frequent festivals and concerts .

Chamonix is a 30 minute drive, Annecy and Evian are an hour away.
Sports facilities in the area include skiing (downhill and cross country), walking, climbing, cycling, mountain biking, swimming (indoor and outdoor), horse riding, tennis, golf (4 courses) , crazy golf, ice skating, ballooning, paragliding, white water rafting, fishing, children's playgrounds, adventure playgrounds, skateboard parks, summer toboggan (luge) etc.

“Great house & idyllic location”

Reviewed 13 Oct 2013

Sitting on the terrace of the chalet, it is difficult to believe the fabulous panorama of Mont Blanc and all the other peaks is real. Surrounded by mountains with the green valley below, it is peaceful and relaxing - the only sound being the cowbells. La Ribambelle is wonderfully comfortable, spacious and well equipped. Lots of facilities within a short drive

“Great property in fabulous position with views to die for!!”

Reviewed 11 Oct 2013

We joined friends at this property for six nights in September when returning from a tour of the Italian lakes. The property is at the end of a lane and was easy to find using the instructions provided by the owner. There is ample parking on a level site and it was easy to unload the luggage. It is well equipped and has fabulous views towards Mont Blanc from all the common areas and four of the six bedrooms. The property is very comfortable, homely and well equipped with free wi-fi and all the electrical gadgets described on the website. It was a very peaceful location just the sound of bells from cows grazing in the field below the property. There were good walks from the property which is not too far from the village and the small town of Megeve is a short drive away. A great place for touring, relaxing and meeting up with friends and family. We would certainly stay here again.

“chalet fabuleux pour des vacances de rêve”

Le confort et la qualité des prestations de ce chalet sont au dessus de ce que nous espérions. La vue sur le Mont Blanc et la chaine des aiguilles est extraordinaire, on ne s'en lasse pas. Les couchers de soleil font rêver. L'équipement du chalet est très complet et d'excellente qualité, rien ne manque. On se sent comme chez soi. Tout cela a contribué à rendre notre séjour très agréable et nous espérons bien y revenir.

“Perfect location for spending time with family and friends”

Reviewed 16 Jul 2012

With its breathtaking views to Mont Blanc, and located just outside the village of Combloux this Chalet is ideally situated and perfect for all ages. It’s within easy reach for skiing (which we didn’t do, as it was May) and for walking, either from the Chalet or a short drive into the mountains – and the more energetic members of our group also biked! It’s also a perfect location to just relax – my 90 year old mother who came with us would happily spend all her time on the terrace watching the mountain (and you also get great views from most rooms inside too). The owners’ description of the Chalet is more than accurate – it is really spacious and comfortable and very well equipped – the owners have thought of everything, even down to (for UK guests) providing adaptors for UK electrical equipment! Combloux has a good selection of shops and restaurants, as does Megeve which is only a short drive away and has a great food (and clothing market) which is well worth a visit. We loved our stay there and would happily holiday there again as there is so much more to do and see!

“Beyond Expectations”

Reviewed 11 Jul 2012

This was my first experience visiting Combloux and what a good choice I made in sampling everything that is good of the area! The chalet not only lived up to the description but exceeded it, providing very clean, comfortable and exceedingly spacious accommodation very well furnished and with everything installed and available to ensure that one really wanted for nothing. To cap it all, the chalet's location provides the best view of Mont Blanc imaginable - what else could you want? There are plenty of walks all around the property and many places to visit for a day out with numerous restaurants not far away. All in all, a perfect place to relax and enjoy the countryside and marvellous views. Certainly a place to re-visit.

“Memorable for all the best reasons”

Reviewed 10 Jul 2012

The view is stunning. Breakfast on the terrace with Mont Blanc as a backdrop and below lush Alpine meadows. Evening drinks by an open log fire ,late snow sprinkling down outside. Excellent housekeeping and most comfortable bed, we slept so well. Friendly Combloux and smart Megeve nearby ,( don't miss the Friday market). Recommended to family and friends.
