Description from owner

Description

Charming, cosy and comfortable mid-19th century terraced cottage in Combe Martin on the edge of Exmoor, with sweeping views from our garden of the gorgeous Devon countryside, and simple, tasteful interiors.

Combe Martin is a fantastic base for a holiday: it has its own beach (20 minutes' walk from our cottage), all the amenities you might need (bank, small supermarkets, four pubs, post office, chemist), its own folk club (Shammick Acoustic) and medieval church (with a beautiful recently restored rood screen).

The village is a brilliant base for fantastic beaches at Croyde and Woollacombe, plus gorgeous walks on the cliffs and on Exmoor. There is loads to do in the area; we are also not too far the famous Damien Hirst sculpture, Verity, at Ilfracombe!

Our cottage was renovated by us after standing empty for nearly ten years, and now has a modern kitchen, bathroom and central heating. However, it retains its cottagey charm, with an inglenook fireplace complete with bread

However, it retains its cottagey charm, with an inglenook fireplace complete with bread oven, stable door in the kitchen, and an extra outdoor WC for those who like to commune with nature!

The cottage is well equipped with two TVs, CD and DVD players, microwave, hairdryer, iron and dishwasher. It is most suitable for one or two adults, perhaps with an older child, as there are two steps up to the front door, and steps up to the garden (which has a lovely patio and viewing platform on three levels).

Please note, there is currently no freezer at the cottage.

There are no parking restrictions on our street but it is not possible to park directly opposite our cottage. Parking starts about 50 yards down the road.

The England region

North Devon is England's best kept secret! It's a wonderful place for beaches and walking, surfing and culture, relaxing and enjoying nature.

Visitors from abroad have been amazed at the beauty of the blue sea, the vast sandy beaches and the countryside, which has so much variety, from hobbity little green lanes, to the grandeur of 'Little Switzerland' in Lynton, to sweeping 'chocolate box' views of Devon to the rugged beauty of Exmoor or Lundy Island.

Combe Martin

There's a lot to do for children in Combe Martin and the surrounding areas, with many wildlife parks, beach safaris and boat trips, as well as shops and icecream opportunities!

There is a lot of live music, some theatre, and various National Trust properties in the area, as well as the most haunted house in the UK in the form of Chambercombe Manor in Ilfracombe.

Eating out in north Devon can be a bit of a mixed bag, but Combe Martin has the Pack O' Cards as a favourite eatery, plus the highly recommended Top Chippy for fish and chips. There are some very good pubs in the vicinity such as the Black Venus in Challacombe and the Fox & Goose in Parracombe, and in the summer months, the Thai curry vendor sets up his stall at Barricane Beach, where you can have a cheap curry and your own drinks whilst watching the sun go down.
