Description

Welcome to our pretty and romantic holiday home built around 1805 (listed Grade II). It is wonderfully situated between the city and countryside in a secluded private lane with safe parking. It is furnished to a very high standard. It has a large open-plan living/dining/kitchen area downstairs and a utility room with dishwasher, washing machine and dryer . Two bedrooms upstairs, one with a standard double bed, the other with two single beds which can 'zip-and-click' into a superking-sized double. Baby/toddler cot and bedding available. Bathroom has a bathtub with a strong shower. Our home is nearby.

Full kitchen facilities for the self-caterer - we provide a welcome pack with milk, coffee, tea and things for your first breakfast. The award winning 'Darling Deli' (300m away) serves breakfast and light meals (Mon-Sat). There are three pubs nearby – the Forester and Flower (10 minutes walk) serves meals in the evenings and Sunday lunch and there is even a traditional Fish & Chip shop!

No 1 bus from the bus/railway station which runs every half-hour takes less than 10 minutes to the village and stops 250m from the cottage. There are beautiful walks to the city centre - about 35 minutes (downhill) - map provided. Taxi from the city centre costs about £8. The bus route 20A goes from Combe Down to Bath University.

Combe Down village has a grocery/convenience store (open 8am-10pm) and a pharmacy. It is famous for a history of stone mining - from massive underground excavations. Bath's fine Georgian houses and many prominent buildings in London were built using stone from the mines. The village is in the World Heritage Site and on the border of the Cotswold Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

The principal signatory must be 23 years or older. We welcome well behaved children. Care must be taken with young children because the kitchen area is open plan and this may pose a risk. The house has a gas safety certificate (annual check), electrical check (PAT) and other safety features including Carbon Monoxide and smoke sensors to give you (and us) security during your stay. We regret that we cannot accommodate pets.

There are always events taking place in Bath and the local area - we will provide you with maps and brochures about activities, visitor sites and festivals. Stonehenge, Bristol and the Wye Valley are easy day trips from Bath. Most visitors head into the city, but there are lovely walks from the house into the Cotswold Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and some great country pubs. You can even walk or cycle through the mile-long Combe Down Railway Tunnel which is under the village - a new and exciting multi-user trail. You can hire bikes nearby at Dundas beside the Kennet & Avon canal - an alternative route to Bath.

“An unforgettable (wonderful) experience thanks to the house, and its owner”

Reviewed 26 Aug 2013

We have spent almost 3 weeks, travelling with 3 small children. The beautiful house was perfectly equipped for our circumstances. The area and neibourhood are fantastic. There are plenty of interesting things to do. But what makes our stay truly special is the outstanding generousity and kindness of Martin and Jenny. My own parents would not have taken so much care of us as they did, even before we arrived until even after we left. My children take them as their british grandparents. I can only say thank you VERY much.

“Beautiful cottage, great location and wonderful owners!”

We booked Cute Cottage in Bath for our daughter's sixth birthday, as a place to stay during a visit to Longleat Safari Park. There is really nothing negative at all we could say about this beautiful place. It is very clean, well equipped and the location couldn't be beaten - just a couple of miles from Bath city centre. The owners, Martin and Jenny, were incredibly welcoming and warm, even bringing a card and gift for our daughter's birthday! (As well as some fresh eggs laid by their own chickens!) Overall, absolutely spot on.

“Cute, warm and cozy cottage”

Reviewed 1 Jun 2013

Experience was overall great. We loved everything about the cute cottage. Martin and Jenny are excellent hosts and made us feel welcomed into Martin's former home. Amenities are great too, we got our eggs and bacon for breakfast from co-op which is just a couple of minutes walk. Darling Deli which is next to co-op serves a good spread of breakfast and deli food. I live in London and walking is not an issue for me but as I was traveling with two others (tourist and first time in Bath), plus the weather wasn't on our side (it rained the day we arrived and whole day when we were there) it was not too comfortable to walk to the city centre (30-40 mins) and decided to cab our way back (gbp10/way). For Martin and Jenny's benefit, I was well aware of the location and distance from city centre but decided to go ahead anyway because I wanted (and for my guests) to experience staying in an English cottage. However, if you have very many activities planned in the city and do not want to take a taxi (gbp10/way) or walk (30-40 minutes), it is best you take the location into consideration. I loved the garden, water pressure in the bath was really good, kitchen was fully equipped, sofa and bed was comfortable and cottage was very clean. Me and my guest felt like we could stay there for a long long time :)

“Beautiful cottage, really friendly and helpful owner.”

The house was newly refurbished. Really comfortable and immaculately laid out. Great beds, great shower, well-equipped, modern kitchen. And we were welcomed by a bottle of wine in the fridge! The owner was extremely friendly and helpful.

“Lovely cottage with super facilities and welcome”

Reviewed 5 Apr 2013

This cottage is on a bus route about 3 miles outside Bath but also with parking. Super welcome with some really lovely touches that made our short stay really lovely. Plenty of warm water and snug for a winter visit. really well kitted out and open plan downstairs made it great for socialising while preparing food. The beds were very comfortable too! The welcome pack was much appreciated, particularly the real coffee and croissants!
