Exterior

As well as the pool and terrace we have another main terrace which has the spa with astonishing views of Comares and the surrounding hillsides - also here we have the eating area with an external kitchen with gas barbecue and paella gas ring. For sun worshippers, we have our sun terrace above the main terrace which has a 300 degree view and has to be seen to be appreciated.

The house itself is situated in an acre of land which is great for exploring (maybe for the kids). We have a large driveway which has plenty of space for cars and is also possible to park directly outside the front door for ease in unloading.

Our house offers peace and quiet like you have never before experienced. We have national park areas surrounding our property which means hours and days of exploring with walks or by car, also a beautiful river bed to drive or walk along.

The area is rich in wildlife and is renowned for bird watching. Species we have spotted include Bee Eater, Golden Oriel, Scops Owl and Hoopoes.

The house is overlooked by Comares. A Moorish stronghold with stunning views and Andalucian charm aplenty. Restaurants and bars are worth a tour to sample the local tapas and locally brewed wine. There is also a communal swimming pool for public use during the summer months.

Casa Holly is the perfect holiday home for relaxation in comfortable, quality surroundings. The house is also well equipped for winter holidays with lots of options for heating including an attractive, powerful 10KW wood burner.

Facilities nearby include:

Horse riding 15 mins drive

Waterpark "Aquavelis" 35 mins drive to Velez Malaga, opposite the park there is the main shopping/cine/restaurants complex "El Ingenio".

Torre del Mar is the nearest beach town and has a market every Thursday morning. Torre is approximately 45 minutes drive - drive a little further and you will arrive in Nerja - a delightful seaside town with plenty of restaurants and shops. Close to the town are the fascinating Nerja Caves - a major tourist attraction and well worth a visit.

Malaga city is a 45 mins drive. With a beautiful cathedral, the Picasso and Carmen Thyssen Museums, tapas bars aplenty and fabulous shopping, a trip to the city centre is a must! Take a stroll down to the port and take in the atmosphere with it´s varied restaurants.

The city of Granada is approximately 1.5 hours drive with the fascinating and impressive Alhambra Palace and should you be visiting in the winter, the ski resort Sierra Nevada is only a short distance from Granada, it´s snowy slopes overlooking the city.

The Costa del Sol region

Casa Holly is situated in the district of Axarquia. Axarquia is an Arab name meaning The East. This area, to the east of Malaga City, is much less developed than the west. The Axarquia retains all the charm of yesteryear thanks to unspoilt havens and attractive coves and beaches where bathers can flee the crowds to be found to the west of Malaga. Whilst becoming better known, the area still offers an ideal location for those in search of greater tranquillity. The Axarquia is one of the few areas that have managed to escape the all-consuming urban development that has invaded other parts of the Mediterranean coast.

Comares

Rio Solano is a small hamlet nestled in the hillsides under Comares - the last moorish stronghold of Andalucia. It is accessible from the villages of Comares, Benamargosa or Riogordo villages all of which have bars and restaurants, banks, a minimart, a post office and health centre.

The Comares annual fiesta takes place annually on the last weekend of August. Rich in local culture and folklore, this is one of the most important local events where the whole village is involved in organising food, dance, singing, sport and the procession of the patron saint of Comares - San Hilario de Poitiers.

Why not take advantage of the locally offered services of luxury "Meals on Wheels" or treat yourself and your party to a pamper day at the house? More details are available upon request.

“magnificent scenery”

Reviewed 9 Nov 2016

We had a lovely 10 day stay....as there were only two of us....it was probably too large a villa..but it cost no more and our reason was that we wanted double beds...and usually you only get one double and the rest singles.....villa was lovely.....views were magnificent....and I would say it would be better suited to larger groups than myself and my friend......also it is not for the feint hearted.....it is quite high up and a little scary on the roads.....but it would be perfect for larger groups....who just wanted to chill...eat and drink...swim and sunbathe.....and not travel around too much...as it is a very mountainous region......but I enjoyed my holiday and the.villa is very well equipped....and owners very helpful ....having said that it may suit a couple for a romantic break.....

“Another world up there”

Reviewed 18 Sep 2016

The villa is lovely.....very well equipped....the mountain views are spectacular and it is so lovely just to sit up there and look at them from the hot tub...which is a real treat.....if you want to see the real Spain then this is the place to go....especially if you want peace, quiet and relaxation.....we had a wonderful meal delivered to our door....details in the information folder.....also we found a lovely Australian taxi driver Jo who also runs a local animal rescue centre....she took us out a couple of times into Riogordo when we did not want to drive....the roads can be a little scary if you are not used to mountain roads....but you get used to them....

Thank you Maria for your kind review. So pleased you enjoyed your stay and were able to relax and enjoy your surroundings.

“Lovely villa in a stunning location”

We stayed at Casa Holly for 5 weeks in Feb/March and it was a perfect winter getaway. The wood burning stove kept us warm in the cool evenings and the sun shone on the terraces all day long. The villa is private but not too isolated and whilst the track to it is not for the faint hearted we soon got used to it and it did not stop us exploring this beautiful part of Spain. The villa is very well equipped and had everything we needed to enjoy our stay. The wifi access was excellent. The views from Casa Holly are spectacular and can be appreciated from the different terraces which capture the sun throughout the day. We particularly enjoyed watching the sun go down over Comares whilst relaxing in the hot tub with a gin and tonic!

“Perfect”

This villa was everything we were looking for for our holiday. Nice and secluded for some proper peace and quiet but not too far away from the city. We spent most of our time outside on the terraces outside. Couldn`t fault this villa inside or out. The only downside was at some point we had to go home. Loved it!

Thank you Steven! So pleased you enjoyed your stay.

“Heaven!!”

Casa Holly has everything you need for a perfect holiday. You can spend the day on your sun lounger breathing in the fresh air and listening to the sound of the nearby horses or the goats’ bells as they stroll down the hill or like us you may watch out for the eagle which sores past at almost the same time each day. The villa itself has all the mod cons, a state of the art sound system. Flat screen tv and dvd player and comfy sofas on which to watch your favourite dvd. The air conditioning in the master bedroom is terrific and quieter than most. As for the outside space, there are so many areas in which to relax and the view from the hot tub as the sunsets is not to be missed. This was our third trip to this area and we have found Riogordo to be a lovely friendly village which has some excellent shops and a really good butchers. Comares is also worth visiting and there are a couple of nice restaurants nearby. Cheryl thank you very much for making us feel so welcome and looking after us.

Thank you so much for your kind words. You were the most perfect guests and looked after Casa Holly as if it were your own. Please come back and visit again soon. Best wishes, Cheryl and Joe

“Bliss”

Spent three weeks at this villa, located about a couple of miles up a winding track/road, nestled on the side of a beautiful valley with amazing panoramic views. To be fair, the road is probably not for the faint hearted, although we've seen much worse and you soon get used to it. The benefit is that you're rewarded with a lovely villa in a quiet and secluded spot but still within 15 minutes drive from local shops/restaurants. The villa is well appointed and has everything you'll need although you'll likely spend all your time outside on the wonderful terraces. A great place to unwind, recommended.

“Most relaxed Holiday for a long, long time!”

Reviewed 27 Sep 2013

What a wonderful Villa!,.. Upon arrival we drove out to our 'meet and greet' person who we then followed through some of Spain's beautiful countryside to what can only be described as a very beautiful, secluded, modern yet still rustic looking villa. The pictures on the Internet dont do it justice.. getting up in the morning to the sun shining into your own private pool then relaxing in the hot tub / jacuzzi at night. With the local village only a 5 minute drive for all your shopping needs and Malaga only 40 minutes away for a day out, Casa Holly is the perfect place to relax and unwind,.. with your only worry being "is it too early to open that bottle of wine?!" At this Villa, the answer was usually no..

“Perfect retreat”

Reviewed 14 Nov 2012

We stayed in this wonderful villa for 10 days. It had everything that you could possibly need, well equipped kitchen, fantastic cooking area outside & lovely bedrooms/reception room. We spent the entire 10 days reading & sunbathing on the terrace which had the sun on it all day. In the mornings we would pick fresh figs & almonds from the trees & have them for breakfast. Every other day we would drive to the local village (15-20mins) and pick up fresh bread, meat, veg & fish etc. Riogordo is a very friendly village which had a few cafes dotted about, each serving tapas & beer at ridiculously low prices. We would then venture back to our retreat & cook wonderful food (highly recommend using the paella pan!), then followed by many table tennis matches! The pool was perfect to cool down in before braving the sun again. Eating out on the terrace in the eveing was heaven, you could see all the lights of Comares up on the hill & the only noises you could hear were the local goats & horses! We will definately be making a trip back in the near future. Perfect for those who want a private villa surrounded by beauty & yet close to a fantastic little village.

“Totally amazing, a beautiful villa, best holiday to date!”

Stunning villa, with excellent facilities, both inside and out, and an extremely warm welcome!! The pool was a total winner with the children, and a lovely way to cool down in the glorious sunshine. We all enjoyed the hot tub too, a touch of luxury! It doesn't take long to master the track, which leads to the main road, breath-taking views as far as the eye can see. Sat Nav is something we would recommend!! Shops can be found in the nearby villages, where you can stock up on supplies and enjoy the complete Spanish experience, and mingle with the locals! We had a totally relaxing time, and can honestly say this was one of the best holidays we've had as a family, and I would have no problems at all recommending Casa Holly to anyone. We will most certainly be making a return visit, in the not too distant future. Thank you again for a wonderful holiday.

“Beautiful Villa nestled in the Hills away from it all”

Reviewed 8 Jul 2012

We spent a great week at Casa Holly, the Villa was excellent and we were spoilt for choice between dips in the pool and the Hot tub. The setting is lovely, and once you have mastered the art of getting from the villa along the windy lanes back to the main road this part of andulucia is worth exploring. We would recomend.
