Location description from owner

The Occitanie region

Languedoc Roussillon is the southern-most department in France, bordering the Mediterranean Sea to the east, and Spain to the south. The cities of Nimes, Montpellier, Carcassonne and Perpignan are located there. The region is the sunniest and warmest in France, with over 300 days of sun per year. Compared to its neighbors to the north, Provence and the Cote d'Azur, the region is relatively undiscovered, with less overcrowding and commercialism. The area is renowned for dramatic landscapes, including mountains, gorges, and broad, white sand beaches. The area is very popular with walkers, and is full of interesting hiking trails of various levels of difficulty. Close to Collioure is the land of an ancient sect called Cathars, which contructed impressive fortresses on mountaintops of the region for defense. The area is also renowned for wines, and Collioure has its own appellation with some excellent reds. Neighboring Banyuls is famous for its sweet wine.

Collioure

Collioure is a charming fishing port with pastel-coloured houses, a royal castle, and an ancient church encircling a lovely bay. It is only about 20 kilometers from the Spanish border, which can be easily reached via a dramatic coastal road affording beautiful views. It was a gathering place for Fauvist painters in the early 20th century; Matisse, Braque and Derain painted many famous canvases here. There are five small beaches in Collioure with clean, calm water, excellent for children. If you are looking for long stretches of white sand, you can head to neighboring Argeles-Plage for the day, just 3 kilometers to the north. There is a huge range of easy daytrips from Collioure, including visits to Cathar castles, Romanesque abbeys and lovely historic towns such as Perpignan and Ceret. Day trips to Spain, including to the famous Dali Museum in Figueras, are also easy. From Collioure there are boat trips along the coast and a scuba diving centre.

“Collioure and Port Vendre are wonderful in June & July”

Reviewed 10 Jul 2016

Tom and Kristina's apartment offers all we require at a very reasonable price, and is within a few hundred yards of the beach and restaurants. We will return for our 5th visit soon.

Owner's reply: Thank you for your kind review. We hope to make our guests feel at home while they stay in our apartment, and strive to make your stay as comfortable and relaxing as we can. You are always welcome to return!

“Great location, quiet, secure and well equipped.”

Reviewed 21 Oct 2012

The apartment is very well equipped, very well priced, well located close to restaurants, shops and walks yet very quiet, secure, parking a real plus and quality fittings and appliances. Free Wifi, great library and secure parking were a real plus even though it was late season. Very pleasant spot especially the balcony for meals and savoring local wines etc - actually did too much of that!! Ideal for a couple but would suggest a little snug for too many more. Mme Auzalay very friendly, not intrusive and speaks great English. Visitors will be spoiled for things to do but high on our list were "Petit Train Jaune" (make sure you ask for the 1 Euro fare between Perpignan and Villefranche), Cave de Fefe for wines and coffees, walks over Col de Madeloc and up to Balcon de Madeloc, La Claire Fontaine for Tapas and good french fare.

Owner's reply: Thank you for your kind words. We are happy to know that you enjoyed your stay in our apartment! We do our best to make our guests feel welcome and at home. We agree that the apartment is a perfect couple’s retreat, although our guests with one or two children have found it comfortable as well. Collioure offers so much to see and do, we hope you will return soon!

“Ideal accommodation in perfect location”

Reviewed 17 Aug 2012

We had a wonderful week in this apartment. It is in a really excellent location- minutes from the beach & some shops & a lovely manageable walk everywhere else in Collioure. We used our car only once. Everything seemed effortless. The apartment was well equipped, very welcoming & comfortable. The loggia is completely private as it looks out to a terrassed hill. It was always so peaceful & quite a haven in the middle of the day. We were very grateful to be able to use all the beach stuff (parasols etc). We had everything we needed for our stay. Before we arrived we hadn't seen a photo of the bathroom & we were pleased to see it had obviously been renovated recently to a very good standard - clean & well presented with a good shower etc. We would love to come back to Collioure & stay in this apartment again. Thank you.

Owner's reply: Thank you so much for your very kind words. We are thrilled to know that you enjoyed your stay in our apartment! We make every effort to make the apartment inviting to our guests and a place where you can feel at home. The loggia is my favorite place, too, to enjoy my morning coffee and afternoon aperitif. Collioure is certainly the jewel of the coast, so yes, you must return. We would love to host you again!

“There is a postcard scene everywhere you look!”

In the morning it's a pleasant stroll to the patisserie or the beach if you prefer. Tuesday is the local market where robust produce, meats, cheese and wine tempt your pallet. Lunchtime offers waterfront dining a strolling musician and the pleasant springtime sun. This location is absolutely prime for day trips and attractions abound from medieval castles to breath taking views of the Mediterranean sea, hillside monasteries and famous artists works and haunts like Salvadore Dali. Our stay in Collioure was by far the best vacation we've been on. It was a feast for our senses and minds. The quaint but modern apartment is a quiet refuge at the end of your day's travel. It will efficiently meet your needs whether you prepare a gourmet meal or enjoy a glass of the local wine before your evening stroll to one of the many fine restaurants. We particularly enjoyed breakfast out on the loggia! Cannot wait to go back!!

Owner's reply: We are so pleased to know you enjoyed your stay in our apartment! We have strived to make our apartment a quiet refuge from the hustle and bustle of the lively old town. And most important, we want you to feel at home and not just on holiday. You are most welcome to return any time!

“Excellent Apartment”

Reviewed 1 Nov 2011

We stayed in this lovely apartment in October 2011 for a week. The booking procedure, communication, etc was excellent & the lady who met us with the key was an absolute treasure, very friendly, helpful & prompt. We flew into Bezier airport, which was again axcellent, picked up our hire car & drove to the apartment, the journey took about 80 minutes. [On the way back we ate our picnic on the banks of the canl du midi!] The apartment is excellent, clean & tidy, with everything you need, including condiments, tea, coffee, etc. We sat out on the balcony everyday & ate our meals, read & chilled. Having stayed in a number of rentals, the bed here was excellent. It is only a five minute walk to the beach & a further five minutes to the town centre, all of which is on the flat for those with mobility difficulties. There are more than adequate parking spaces, which is an absolute must, parking must be hell in the summer. We walked everyday, up to the windmill & castle, etc. We used the brilliant one euro bus to get about & ventured further afield into the pyrenees & the train jaune. An excellent apartment, so much so that I intend to visit again.

Owner's reply: We are very pleased to know you enjoyed your stay. The village of Collioure truly is a wonderful place, and we try to make our apartment feel like your home during your visit. We will be happy to host you again!

“Lovely apartment in central location ,literally minutes to public transport and beach”

Reviewed 28 Oct 2011

This was a lovely aprrment ,most comfortable with everything you could wish for in terms of home comfort. A small balcony faced up to the hill behind and whist it didn't get the sun ,it was pleasant for sitting out to eat, read or just contemplate. Friendly people in neighbouring apartments, and the local agent was so helpful

Owner's reply: So glad you enjoyed your stay! We thank you for your rental and welcome you back any time.

“A very comfortable and well-equipped apartment”

Reviewed 22 Apr 2011

The apartment is very nicely and comfortably furnished, and very clean. The location is superb - easy walking distance to the shops and the beach yet away from the hustle and bustle of the lively village. Kristina was very efficient and always prompt in answering any questions we had. It truly was a pleasure communicating with her. We had a most enjoyable stay in her apartment and in Collioure. We look forward to returning.

Owner's reply: We are really quite pleased to know you enjoyed your stay in our apartment. Collioure is truly a lovely place! We strive to make our guests feel at home and comfortable in our apartment so they may enjoy their visit as much as we do. You are most welcome to return and we would love to host you again. -- Kristina
