Location description from owner

The Languedoc-Roussillon region

The most sunny part of France, and not as commercial and overrun by tourists and cars as the Riviera.Lots of cultural and historical attractions within driving distance and excellent public transport available throughout the region. A car isn't necessary as Collioure is well served by buses (1 Euro per trip), and trains.Perpignan is the regional capital with many cultural festivals and events. In nearby Ceret you find the Musee d'Art Moderne. Castelnou village, Tautavel (the prehistoric man), Carcassonne, the Dalimuseum in Figueres and the fantastic city Barcelona in Spain can easily be reached by car or train. A trip in the Pyrenees might include the Canigou mountain (1 Euro bus ride) and a visit to Andorra.

Collioure

The Collioure / Moure areaCollioure, an idyllic place on the rocky coastline, is situated in the very south of France, 26 km from the Spanish border. The picturesque village is nestled in an authentic environment. Its small Catalan harbor is sheltered by a quiet bay where the chain or the Pyrenees meet the Mediterranean Sea. It gets more hours of sun than any region in France. The exceptionally sunny climate and the north wind “Tramontane” makes Collioure a unique place where well-being and Catalan "art de vivre" have their origins. You can count on having a splendid swim at one of the small coves and several sand and pebble beaches. The colourful pedestrian streets are a maze of twists and turns as they step up from the seafront. Stroll amongst these and discover the restaurants, galleries and shops selling local items. Sit and have an aperitif at one of the bars around the bay. Enjoy the safe beaches on this beautiful Mediterranean coastline. Shop at the twice weekly market and enjoy fresh oysters and wine. Admire the local historical architecture including the impressive Chateau Royal, and medieval Eglise Notre-Dame-des-Anges that sits in the bay. Take lessons at the local diving school or go sea fishing. Sail around the Mediterranean on day excursions. Tour the Cathar castles and visit fortified Carcassonne, a UNESCO World Heritage site . Appreciate the vibrant Catalan culture, festivals, dance, art and food.Collioure has always been a source of inspiration for artists. Writers, poets, singers and painters fell under Collioure’s charm. Picasso, Matisse, Derain, Dufy Chagall, Marquet, and many others set up their easels here and immortalized the small Catalan harbor in their works. Follow the marked route known as Chemin du Fauvisme, or take a guided tour, through the streets of Collioure passing the views painted by Matisse and Derain. With approximately thirty art galleries and many artists from all over the entire world, Collioure still is the ”City of Painters.” "In France there is no sky as blue as the one in Collioure...I just have to close the shutters of my room and I have all the colours of the Mediterranean before me." --- HENRI MATISSE

“Tolles Appartement - Eddie, ein fantastischer Gastgeber”

Reviewed 29 Sep 2015

Vielen Dank, Eddie

“We Left Our Hearts in Collioure”

Reviewed 29 Aug 2015

Eddie's apartment is in the heart of Collioure, literally less than a minute from the main beach. Shops, restaurants, beach are all within seconds of the flat. We were there during the annual festival, which was loud and fun. (The best fireworks we have ever seen) Even with some noise in the front living area, the bedrooms are in the back of the flat; we were amazed how quiet it was to sleep. The kitchen is well equipped, has a good sized refrigerator, gas stove top, everything needed to prepare meals. Although don't miss the many great restaurants. The only negative is there is no real view, although the only times we were inside was when we wanted a rest, so we did not mind. The convenience of being so close to everything was worth it. The best part of the stay is Eddie himself. He is a warm, kind, charming gentleman, who went out of his way to make sure we were comfortable. He made many great suggestions for restaurants, walks, entertainment. His concern to make sure we enjoyed ourselves was amazing...if I could give him a sixth star I would. We highly recommend Eddie's apartment for rent.

I am so glad that you enjoyed Collioure so much and thank you for the amazing review ... it makes me very happy to know that you will be back in Collioure, and next time I hope we can have a dinner on the beach, or perhaps a barbecue up at L'Hermitage, provided Leon does the barbecuing ... I'm hopeless at barbecues! Please do come back, and try to make your stay longer. Many thanks for all, Eddie & Aine

“Ideal location for a stay in Collioure”

Reviewed 11 Aug 2015

Eddie the owner is a remarkable man, so friendly and helpful and a pleasure to meet. We felt quite at home from the moment we arrived. The apartment was tastefully decorated and had all we needed for a wonderful stay. It is located in a great part of the town in a pedestrian only area close to the beach, with many cafes, restuarants and shops nearby. We would recommend this property as a great place to stay and enjoy the delightful town of Collioure.

Thank you for such a wonderful review and for being such pleasant and amiable guests. I hope that you will make it again to Collioure on your next trip to Europe. Be assured of a very warm welcome... next time you come I will send you before arrival a description in English of a collection of walks that I have compiled, all of varying length and difficulty. Looking forward to seeing you again. Eddie & Aine

“Charming apartment with perfect location”

Reviewed 30 Jul 2015

The apartments is only a few steps away from the beaches of colliour and the nearest restauant is litterally 10 steps away from the front door. We were four people having a wonderful few days in Collioure. It is not a big apartment, but I think it must be the best equipped apartment we've ever stayed at, including diving masks and offer to borrow flippers. Beds were comfortable and bathroom had a nice big shower. There are no outdoor space, but we didn't miss it being so close to the beach and with big windows with wide window sills (nice to sit and watch street life go by). A perfect location for relaxed holiday in beautiful Colliour!

I am so happy that you enjoyed our apartment and your short holiday in Collioure. Please, do come back again, but make sure your next visit is longer. and no need to bring all your beach gear as I have put yours away in storage for you for your next visit, which I hope will be soon. You were wonderful guests and I loved the comments you wrote in our guest book. Thank you. It was an incredible pleasure having you as guests. Eddie

“Central Location in Beautiful Town”

Reviewed 19 Jun 2015

We stayed a week in the Apartment in June and the location is fantastic. It is very central, steps away from Restaurants and one of the beaches as well as shops. Collioure is a beautiful place , very picturesque and lots of character. The apartment is basically furnished but adequate for day to day use. We made good use of the fans at night as it did get hot. We also had rain but it was fascinating to watch the water pouring down the street and quickly clearing afterwards. There are some good restaurants for dinner, our favourites were Casa Leon, literally steps away and La Capillo which was just a bit further. The euro bus is brilliant, very efficient and the drivers helpful. We also got the train into Spain for a day. The beaches are stony so don't expect golden sand, but adequate to sit on and enjoy the sun. There are also lots of benches around so you can sit and watch world go by. Lastly, many thanks to Eddie the landlord who is so very hospitable and will do anything in his power to ensure you have a good holiday. He arranged our transport from the Airport and treated us to a lovely tapas lunch on arrival.

Thank you for your review and we're glad you enjoyed your stay. We hope you return and stay with us again. Eddie

“Can't stay away from this wonderful place”

Reviewed 26 May 2015

We are back to 10 Rue Mailly because of such good customer service given by the host Eddie Martin. He was generous with his time and gave us lots of information and tips so that we made the best use of our time. Time appears to get away very fast in Colliure. We love the property because it has all we need for a good time and it is so central to all the shops and historic sites too. I gave a review of the things to do in and around Colliure in Feb '14 see that review for more information. The things I like best is the top customer service that Eddie gives us and the beautiful surroundings one has in Colliure, even in the off season there are plenty of things one can do. Perhaps if one had a car then the parking facilities are not great around Colliure however, Eddie comes to the rescue there. Thank you again Eddie for being a wonderful host and we shall be back again in the not too distant future we hope, word is spreading here in Perth, so I will have to book early and I may not get the opportunity to come!!

Thank you for your very generous review and I very much look forward to seeing again you in Collioure. You are always welcome here, so please do come back soon.

“Mystical Place in the South of France”

The apartment had everything one requires to enjoy time away from home. A lovely 2 bed, on a pedestrian way, just around the corner from the sea. Eddy and his lovely daughter Aine were perfect hosts and it was a joy to share our time with them. Thank you so much for a perfect stay!

It was a real pleasure having you stay and we enjoyed your company and generosity of spirit. I hope very much that we will meet again and that you have a great time when you hit Paris, a terrific Christmas and all the blessings of the season. Eddie & Aine

“Vacances par excellence”

Reviewed 9 Oct 2014

Excellent location very close to harbour, beach, shops and restaurants. The apartment is quiet and has all the necessary equipment. The landlord was extremely helpful and couldn't do enough to ensure we enjoyed our stay. Collioure is a beautiful picturesque town and we enjoyed the superb local seafood and ice creams. We made good use of local transport and the 1euro bus as well as scenic walks along the coast and surrounding area. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and look forward to returning again in the near future.

It was a real pleasure getting to know both of you and we very much enjoyed the "sardanade" and our walk to "la consolation". Please do come back again and thank you ever so much for taking the time to write a review of your stay. One of these days I'll take you up on your offer of the best fish and chips in the world!. Many thanks, Eddie & Aine

“Fabulous accommodation in fabulous town”

Reviewed 2 Oct 2014

I have been here 3 times now and I love it more each time. The flat is located in a very quaint street just metres from the beach. The apartment is perfectly located to take advantage of the fantastic restaurants and sights in and around Collioure. The apartment is just perfect, clean, well laid out and very neat and tidy. Internet reception is excellent. The owner and his daughter are charming and most obliging. I will certainly be back again.

Great having you back again and so good to know that you enjoy our apartment and Collioure so much. Thank you for your generous review, and we hope that you can make it back again over the coming years. Have a great trip back to Australia. Thanks, Eddie & Aine
