Stunning Flax Mill conversion dating from 1786 sitting in a shallow tranquil valley in the townland of Collins, Aghadowey Parish, just five minutes drive from the buzz & all theamenities of Coleraine Riverside Centre.
The East Wing is a smaller unit within the old flax mil for those who need less accommodaion
A superb base for touring Northern Ireland & a character tourist stay in its own right in a private riverside setting

Tranquil Riverside Setting
They flax mill is located in an area of outstanding natural beauty with easy access to the many historic towns and excellent restaurants of the North West. It's just 15 miles from Portstewart and/or Portrush and 16 miles to Bushmills and 25 miles west to Londonderry.
This spacious Mill conversion boasts 12,000 square feet of high quality accommodation and common facilities in the main Mill building alone. A further 6,000 square foot in an adjacent Mill building is designated for weddings & corporate events is planned for a later date
Unique Charm of the Mill
The Flax Mill manages to combine the wow factor of its setting, size, scale with its old features such as wooden beams & reclaimed wooden floors. Its charming period Mill features also include the internal Mill race Wall with a glass viewing pane from one of the guest annex rooms, the Mill Race Tunnel underground connecting the two Mill buildings and gothic style archways, doors & windows. These features plus external stone walls & steps down to the river in the grounds complement luxury living accommodation in a secure, peaceful setting.
Mill Grounds & Riverside Environment
Bounded on one flank by the River Rhee and situated in a quiet gentle valley by landscaped stepped slopes down to the river, the Flax Mill offers serene views of the surrounding farmland.
From the grounds of the property, the tranquillity is broken only by the roar of the River Rhee after overnight rain.
The Rhee flows from uplands to the west to the River Bann a few miles further downstream. Fishing rights are available via the Honourable Irish Society.
NB The length of river in the Mill grounds is unfenced and not suitable for children unless strictly supervised
Accommodation Set Up
The Mill has a welcoming mixture of traditional furnishings & decoration in the common areas with a more contemporary look of the nine bedrooms of accommodation which are available for lease in different permutations depending on the size of your group.
In its entirety, the Mill can host parties of up to 26 persons but can be hired out in smaller packages, namely the Collins East Wing Annex & the master bedroom Wilson Suite or the Top Floor Family Suites. Each set of rooms has its own character & space.
Let us know how many persons you wish to book in and the makeup of your party, i.e. the ages of your children or simply state how many rooms you require.
Layout of the Mill Facilities
The hub of the house are the large lounges either side of the central entrance lobby. The focus downstairs is on space to relax and meet fellow guests in the three ground floor lounges while upstairs, the emphasis is on the comforts of luxury accommodation & privacy.
There a further mezzanine gallery Library & Map Room on the first floor with views over to the river while the Top Floor Suites also comes with its own lounge for the exclusive use of the top floor guests.
In addition, we have set aside one ground floor bedroom with adjacent shower facilities for the less well abled.
If you love contemporary interiors and spacious living areas, this is the place for you! The beamed ceilings, reclaimed wood floors and stone wall surrounds add to the character of this former working textile Mill. The East Wing Guest Annex has a distinct feel to it with gothic windows & doorways through much of this side of the old building.
Leather sofas and warming wood stoves in the lounges provide relaxing and spacious rooms for large parties to gather.
Catering & Kitchens
For those that need early morning coffee and/or a drink, we have kettles and minibars in those six bedrooms with ensuite bathroom facilities. The top floor suite of rooms also has a kitchenette/breakfast bar which can also serve for light meals and has a large dining room adjacent.
For those that want to test their gastronomy skills, there is a large well equipped kitchen on the ground floor with the added feature of a spectacular monastic stone table from which to eat your meals. Shopping for provisions is very close by as are some local, warm & friendly down-to-earth restaurants should you wish to eat out.
Prime Tourism Location; Causeway Coast & much much more
The local area is quiet and relaxing as a destination in its own right but if you want to venture out, tourist attractions abound with enough attractions to keep visitors busy for a fortnight or more, providing you have a car.
The Flax Mill is centrally placed, close to the boundaries of Counties Antrim & Londonderry, making it ideal for trips to world famous UNESCO listed Giant's Causeway & Bushmills Irish Whiskey Distillery to the east which are 'must do' stops on any tour of Ireland. The property is also close to the busy seaside resorts of Portrush, Portstewart, Portbalintray & Ballycastle, giving you a huge choice to dine and/or entertain the family.
The location filming of Game of Thrones TV series has added to the tourist interest in the area with the Dark Hedges being one of the most photographed spots around.
To the west of the Mill, you may wish to try some of Northern Ireland's greatest natural & cultural treasures – the National Trust Properties of Downhill, Mussenden Temple, Benone Beach, Limavady, Castlerock and the historic, legendary City of Londonderry.
Further west still, excursions to the Republic of Ireland's beautifully rugged County Donegal can be reached on longer summer day trips with a ferry trips across Lough Foyle shortening the route.
Summertime Beaches Galore
A 20 minute drive takes you to the National Trust-run huge and impressive strand of Portstewart Beach which has received numerous awards for its cleanliness & natural beauty. White Park Bay Beach, Portrush East & West Strands, Portstewart, Castlerock Beaches, amongst many others, give you a huge array of choice for family entertainment in the summer months with car parking generally proximate to the beaches and sometimes on the beach itself.
Convenience stores are dotted around the approaches to the Mill while a five minute drive to the mall-style Riverside Shopping Centre gives easy access for bigger shopping needs. The historic Plantation town of Coleraine, the other side of the River Bann affords a further choice of outlets in a more traditional shopping environment with relaxing pedestrian-zoned areas.
Titanic Quarter & Belfast
For visitors from overseas, mainland UK & the Republic of Ireland on longer stays, the Mill can also serve as a base for the attractions of Belfast, the capital City of Northern Ireland.
Previous guests of the Mill have travelled on day trips to Titanic Quarter, another must do trip if you are visiting N. Ireland which has no less than three separate Titanic exhibitions with the Ulster Folk &Transport Museum hosting a fourth Titanic memorabilia exhibition a further 15 minutes to the east at Cultra, County Down.
Golf, Hiking Outdoor & Pursuits
This area is a golfers' paradise with more than top 25 courses within a 30 min drive from the Mill. Proximity to world class golf courses such Royal Portrush and Portstewart make this a perfect base for golfers and their families. The Mill itself has previously hosted participants in the Galgorm Manor Pro-Am Tournament in 2014.
For those seeking a more active holiday and wishing to explore the countryside, the immediate area is one of tranquil beauty with upland woodland and pine forest ideal for those who plan a getaway with their dogs. The legendary walks of the Glens of Antrim can be explored on a day trip.
The glorious River Bann, to which the Mill's own River Rhee flows, has well signed jetties with access and car parking for the official scenic Canoe Trail.
