Description

Our floathouse is a cabin on the water that sleeps four (one queen, two twins), has a full bath with shower stall and hair dryer, and great room with a fully stocked modern kitchen (two-burner electric stove top--no oven), refrigerator, microwave, electric coffee pot and grinder, blender, spices, condiments, paper products), dining area with expandable table, and living area with setee, arm chairs, reading lamps, radio/cd changer. The pantry and kitchen closets hold china, glassware, rice cooker, etc. You will be greeted with a stock of coffee, tea, milk, cereals, and pastries for your first breakfast and wine to toast your arrival.

There is wifi through a Verizon 'Jet Pack.' We offer a substantial library of real books from classics to best sellers and music from opera to western. Enjoy our top of the line Scrabble set on a rotating base. While there is no laundry in the floathouse, there are facilities in town and at the marina. All refuse is put into tied plastic bags (included) and taken to the Resort Marina for dumping. There is a flashlight and extra batteries.

The floathouse 'floats' on giant cedar logs on Neachen Bay. It is 'anchored' by cedar pilings, has a cedar breakwater on two sides and is connected to our private beach by a dock ramp. The dock configuratrion makes for a private swim area with beach access and a swim ladder on the main dock. THE FLOATHOUSE IS NOT APPROPRIATE FOR SMALL CHILDREN NOR FOR GUESTS WHO CANNOT SWIM AS IT IS SURROUNDED BY WATER.

There is a fire pit on the beach with a spark screen which must be used as you are at the edge of a pine/fir forest. Firewood, kindling, paper and matches are included. This mixed sand/fine-gravel beach was part of an ancient Native American Fall Hunting site (Neachen) and we frequently find arrowheads and flints. There is a gradual slope into the water.

Above the beach is large Trex deck with fenced surround, built-in seating,tables, chairs, pads, hammock and gas barbecue. There is a half-bath on the deck for your convenience--no reason to run back to the floathouse for the bathroom.

THERE IS NO ROAD INTO OUR PROPERTY NOR ANY ADJACENT PARKING. GUESTS ARRIVE BY BOAT. The marina at the Coeur d'Alene Resort has boats for rent should you not have your own. We can arrange launching for your boat and trailer storage while you visit. We have parking priveleges at the marina.

The Lake Coeur d'Alene area is in the Idaho Panhandle, 45 minutes from Spokane International Airport, two hours south of the Canadian border and just west of the Montana border (two and a half hours to Glacier Park). It is an area of outstanding beauty and opportunity for recreation: 30+ golf courses within an hour's drive, swimming, paddle boarding, kayaking, water skiing, hiking, biking (the famous Trail of the Hiawatha), and walking (across the beach and up Sunset Cove Road to Barbara's 'Honor Stand' for fresh produce and neighborhood news).

The City of Coeur d'Alene is ten minutes North by boat where you will find a world-class resort, restaurants, shopping, movies, music (opera to jazz), art galleries, and special events throughout the summer. Check for city information and the Coeur d'Alene Chamber of Commerce for details. ROW Adventures (ROW has rental information on paddle boards, kayaks, and bicycles as well as the Trail of the Hiawatha.) There is a book in the floathouse with brochures, restaurant menus, and personal favorites.

Wild pink roses often bloom on the beach. Bald Eagles, Osprey, Canada Geese, Blue Herons, Kingfishers, Sandpipers, Barn Swallows (mosquito eaters), an occassional loon and a wide variety of ducks live in the bay. The ducks enjoy being hand fed old bread. White Tail and Mule deer are early morning visitors to the water with an occasional moose. These visitors are best observed from the dock. There is a set of binoculars for your use.

There is fishing from the dock or from your boat in Neachen and the surrounding bays which are known as premier bass and freshwater salmon (Kokanee) fisheries. You will need a visitor's fishing license obtainable from any of the sports stores in town. Brown, Rainbow and spotted trout can be had in nearby (half-hour drive) streams. There are professional guides available through the Coeur d'Alene Resort and the sports stores.

Or, sit back and relax to the almost imperceptible sway of the floathouse. Stretch out on the deck hammock on the upper deck to read or nap. Imbibe while you watch the sun set. If it rains, open the French doors and listen to the rain drops hit the water in their unique songs. Sleep on freshly ironed sheets with the windows open and listen to the water lap at the beach. Rooms are bathed in natural light by day. There are reading light in every room by night. The docks and upper deck have lights.

The wrap around deck extends your living space to the outside. Enjoy the natural radiance of Neachen Bay, Coeur d'Alene Lake and the mountains. Sip hot chocolate at night and watch more stars than you have ever seen or sigh over a full moon on the bay.

The floathouse is a haven of peace and tranquility, a place of spirit and discovery on Coeur d'Alene Lake.
