Clifden is the hub town of Connemara, which is one of Ireland's most beautiful areas. From Clifden you can access many outdoor activities like golf, hill walking, sea trips, island hopping, cycling and simply walking the stunning beaches and back roads with the 12 Bens, mountains, as your backdrop and the Atlantic Ocean beside you!

Location description from owner

The Western Ireland region

Connemara is on the West coast of Ireland, surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean to the West, the mountain ranges of The Twelve Bens and The Maamturks to the East, South Connemara, an Irish speaking area to the South and Co. Mayo and The garrison town of Westport to the North. It is known for it's barren beauty, the stony fields, and many lakes, and the great expanses of bogland. Clifden has long been a holiday destination, and it attracts many thousands of visitors during the summer, when there are many festivals, like the famous Connemara Pony Show in August, as well as smaller, local pony shows, pony races, and boating festivals.
The air is clean and fresh, the water very cold and bracing, and the seafood is divine! You can take many wonderful day trips from Clifden, visiting the local islands of Inisbofin, or Clare in Mayo, a drive upto Westport brings you along Ireland's only fjord: Killary Harbour. The Connemara Championship Golf Links are in a class of their own, with so many varied views that you should really take a camera with you. Connemara has a way of getting into your heart, with many visitors returning again and again!

Clifden

Clifden really is a very cosmopolitan town considering it's location. You will find the best musicians of traditional music in the pubs, both early in the evening as well as long into the wee hours. There are first class boutiques in the town and down in the Station House Hotel which is 2 minutes from the Main Street. There are now 3 art galleries, selling local and Irish artists, and many restaurants to choose from, specialising not only in seafood but also in Connemara Lamb! The town has about 5/6 bus services in and out of Galway on a daily basis, as well as many taxis to use if you go to one of the other good restaurants outside the town for dinner. The tourist office is a must to stop of in when you arrive, and there is an excellent fortnightly publication available locally which gives you all the up to the minute news on what is going on. I came to Clifden as a child on family holidays, and in turn have bought my own family here, maybe you will start your own traditions here too
