Location description from owner

The East Anglia region

Situated on the North Norfolk Coast this area is an area of outstanding natural beauty, offering a wealth of different beaches to visit and all the fun that comes with them. This well established exclusive enclave has masses of enchanting villages along the coast and bustling market towns all with interesting shops and galleries, wine bars and restaurants. Local produce including fish and crab is available everywhere. There are plenty of charming pubs, some offering the finest food. The world famous Blakeney Point, with its white sands visible from the garden is where you will find there is nowhere better to be! East Anglia is notoriously dryer than the rest of the country and Cley, being where it is is often degrees warmer than just a few miles in land. The place is enchanted with out doubt.

Cley Next the Sea

The delightful village of Cley, at the mouth of the Glaven Valley has narrow streets lined with pretty flint cottages. There are two pubs both serving food, an award wining delicatessen as well as smoke house and an art gallery, pottery and second hand book shop. There are two cafes, windmill, contemporary bird centre and a magnificent medieval church. With surrounding reed beds and salt flats adding to the unrivalled charm of the area. Less than a mile away are equally charming seaside villages with their own personality and 3 miles inland is the fine town of Holt no less! full of boutiques, restaurants and wine bars. Book shops, antique emporiums and plenty more.

“Fantastic stay in a beautiful property”

Reviewed 4 Sep 2014

Stayed for a long weekend for a family reunion for a 70th birthday. Very spacious property and extremely well decorated. Large kitchen/dining area, large lounge which accommodated us all, and large terrace with ample dining space. Some bedrooms were much smaller than others and bathrooms also very variable in space. But in general a lovely barn and we had a very comfortable stay. The situation is fantastic, in the middle of fields and the beach only a mile away, again walking across fields. Grassy areas all around the house and it felt safe to let the children play outside without constant supervision. We saw lots of different birds and even deer in the adjacent field. Magical!

Dear Sarah, thank you for your very kind review and we are delighted you all enjoyed yourselves so much. We do hope you will stay at Barn Drift again soon. Best wishes, Jonny and Alice

“A unique and stunning setting for a memorable family holiday”

Reviewed 31 Aug 2014

We loved our first stay at Barn Drift so much that we visited again this year and enjoyed it even more! The house is beautifully designed, furnished and very well equipped. There is plenty of room for the children to play, whilst the adults can find a quiet corner. We loved being able to cycle/walk to the village of Cley, where the playground was a great hit. The children adored the freedom of being able to play outside in the semi enclosed areas of the garden as well as in the adjoining fields, small wood and lanes. The panoramic views from all sides of the property, the quality of light and the peace of the setting was a delight to us townies.

Thank you for your lovely review, we are so glad that you have enjoyed the house and village so much and hope to see you again next year for your third visit. Best wishes, Alice and Jonny

“The most glorious place to stay for my husband's 70th Birthday.”

Reviewed 24 Jul 2014

We couldn't have asked for a more perfect place for all the family with masses of room inside and out for everyone, whatever the weather - though it was hot and sunny almost all week. The huge sitting room had comfortable and elegant seating for multiple purposes: reading/TV/Ipad games/a game of scrabble and all at the same time! The dining-room kitchen with a ceiling as high as a church, had the most beautiful views onto the walled garden on one side and through the woods to the sea on the other and quite took one's breath away. But the sheer luxury of everything made it such extra pleasure - like staying in a 5 star hotel, furnished with the most exquisite taste and no expense spared, where you are allowed to do self-catering and find that nothing has been overlooked - bullet coffee maker AND cappucino milk frother!

Thank you for your very kind review, we are truly delighted that you all enjoyed your very special week together and were so comfortable at Barn Drift. Do come again soon. Best wishes, Alice and Jonny

“The perfect place to get away.”

Reviewed 22 Jan 2014

The barn is situated in the most magical place with incredible views to the sea in the distance. It is designed and decorated to perfection in a contemporary style but with extreme comfort. The surrounding area is quite the most beautiful part of Norfolk with fantastic walks along the coast, trendy shops in Holt and the wonderful Victoria at Holkham to have lunch or supper. All that and then back to the Barn for a piping hot bath and to snuggle up in front of the wood burner. Absolute bliss, we will return.

Thank you for your review, we are absolutely delighted that you enjoyed Barn Drift and the North Norfolk Coast so much. We look forward to welcoming you back soon. Best wishes, Alice and Jonny

“Stunning property in idyllic location - heaven”

Reviewed 16 Jan 2014

My family and I spent a glorious long weekend at Barn Drift between Christmas and New Year. Despite large numbers - there were 12 of us staying, and several more for meals - the house never felt crowded, the clever design leading out into an endless landscape creating an extraordinary sense of space. Never have I been so torn between spending time in- or outdoors. The interior is impeccable, comfortable and wants for nothing in terms of amenities (a fact endorsed by those ranging from ages 5 to 55), yet the outdoors calls from the moment the light streams in through the large windows in the morning. Sea views extend to beaches which are a short walk from the house, and the surrounding villages provide the possibility for days of happy wandering. Barn Drift is clearly the product of a labour of love on the part of its owners, the result being an inherently happy atmosphere where contentment is all but guaranteed.

Thank you for your beautifully written review, we are absolutely delighted and very much hope to welcome you back without delay. Best wishes, Alice and Jonny

“Barn Drift offers a beautiful, peaceful, perfect coastal/rural holiday”

Reviewed 8 Jan 2014

We loved Barn Drift. This barn, situated just outside the lovely village of Cley next the Sea, has been beautifully restored to the highest standard. Fantastic living space with expansive views over the countryside. The kitchen is amazingly equipped with everything you could possibly need! Extremely comfortable beds. Welcoming hamper with lovely treats. We were there in January but I imagine it would be great to walk through the open doors in summer to the walled seating areas. To add to perfection there are many excellent pubs and restaurants to find nearby. What more can I say - wel'll be back!

What a lovely review! thank you, we are so glad you enjoyed it and look forward to welcoming you back soon. Best wishes, Alice & Jonny

“A beautiful barn in a beautiful place”

Reviewed 31 Oct 2013

I arranged a long weekend away for my partner and some of his friends who are not familiar with the local area. We were a mix of couple and families with young children (aged 7, 4 and 1). We visited Holkham beach and saw the seals from Blakeney. We spent some time in Cley, bought fish from the famous Smokehouse and marvelled over the beauty of the coastline. Being a Norfolk girl myself I am quite family with the area, but those who had never been to this part of the world were amazed by the unspoilt country side and quaint villages. There are lots of things to do in the area for children, if you like being in the outdoors. The barn itself is wonderful. Sleeping 14 comfortably (with an extra 2 beds which can be made up in the "playroom" which we didn't use and I am glad as the room itself is quite chilly and the children used it lot), the space itself is practical. There is a large open plan living and dining area which is well equipped and friendly. You can see the sea whilst you eat your breakfast. The living room isn't centred around a television but meant for spending time together. The beds are super king size and very comfortable to sleep in. We would go back in a flash, and hope to revisit Barn Drift and the North Norfolk coast in the near future.

Thank you for your review. We are delighted that you were so comfortable and enjoyed your holiday so much - we hope you will return. Thank you for highlighting the playroom/bedroom 8 a bit chilly - it is South West facing with underfloor heating, so usually extremely cosy. An engineer inspected the heating last week following your comments and we are glad to say it is working properly. When you come back please be sure to turn the thermostat up, each room has its own thermostat - perhaps our last guests had been too warm and left it low! Best wishes, Alice & Jonny

“Beautiful house, with great facilities in a wonderful location.”

Reviewed 28 Oct 2013

A wonderful house for a large gathering on the beautiful North Norfolk coast. All the rooms were an excellent size with their own bathroom. The beds were comfortable and large enough to sleep a small army. The kitchen facilities, were excellent, with almost every kitchen utensil you care to name including an olive stoner! The dinning area spacious. The living room was large, comfortable with a beautiful wood burning stove and fantastic natural light. We had 4 children under the age of 8 and there was a well equipped child's play room to satisfy all their needs.

Thank you for your kind review last October, we hope you will come back to enjoy the house again soon. Best wishes, Alice & Jonny

“Idyllic Norfolk at its best”

Reviewed 17 Oct 2013

Barn Drift is found at the end of a deserted lane with stunning sea views..... the location is truly spectacular. The Barn itself has been decorated to the very highest standards but not overwhelmingly so. It comes with all mod cons and as such it is super friendly and comfy. It is very spacious, so ideal for 2 or even 3 families. Even our dog was welcome! The bedrooms are super comfy and the peace and quiet and sea air combined provide the perfect ingredients for a great night's sleep. There is plenty to do in the area, from wonderful walks, sailing at Blakeney and fruit picking at Wiveton. We all had a blast and cant wait to go back.

Thank you for your review, we so are glad to hear you were all so comfortable at Barn Drift and enjoyed your summer holiday there. I know you have been before and we very much hope you will come again! Alice & Jonny
