Further details indoors

Papillon like its sister Cigale is beautifully furnished with an ecclectic mix of English antiques and French charm. The villa is large, and romantic with all the modern facilities you may require for your precious holiday in the sun. Sun loungers and comfortable chairs are scattered about the property with hammocks gently swinging from the conker tree.
The large sumptous beds are dressed in 400 count Egyptian cotton sheets, a picnic awaits or a casserole in the winter complete with a bottle of wine to drink whilst soaking in double ended bath gazing at the vines and surrounding hills. Peace and quiet envelope you lulling you to sleep to the sound of nightingales.

Further details outdoors

There are so many places to sunbathe, contemplate, eat, read and play at Le Grand Hermitage that there is always a place in the sun or shade. The pool is only shared between the two villas as the owners have their own, away from the secluded area of Cigale and Papillon.
Swing in the hammocks, light the barbeque, swim to your hearts content, all to the sounds of bees and birds and the sights of butterflies, dragon flies and leave gently swaying in the breeze. Take the bikes, or try your hand at boules, wander around the property and take a stroll through the woods or a hike in the hills. Although essentially self catering breakfast, lunch, aperos and evening meal is happily presented- you will be amazed.

The Occitanie region

300 days of sun awaits you in this area. The scenery is diverse, hills, lakes, seaside, ports,

The weather is stunning, almost permanant blue skies, even in winter with day time temps in winter often up to 70 degrees but colder at night.

This is an agricultural area, vines, olives etc.
Canal du Midi is a stunning addition, plus the Milau bridge designed by Norman Foster
Pezenas a nearby medieval town is fabulous, but best avaioded during July and August.

Clermont l'Herault

Situated with ease to local airports, this property offers short breaks as well as longer stays, and ever popular autumn and winter breaks. The area is stunning at all times of the year - the season in this part of France is "all year".

During summer it is possible to go out every night. local festivals and parties abound.
Fantastic restaurants from local simple fair to Michelin Star are here.
Rick Stein visited in the area for his television series.

The vendage is a fantastic time to visit Clermont, where you can watch lazily from your hammock or join in accompanying the grapes to their destination.

Our local market of Clermont L'herault offers a gastonomic experience in itself. From wine, through to oysters, lobster, figs, cherries and morells, the market has everyhting to encourage the most modest appetite.
Everyhting tastes better here- why? The sunshine, the lack of pesticides, the ambience.

Clermont offers a cinema with some VO films, and a theatre and church which hosts many musical events. Along with the many vignerons in the area, it is sure to delight all with its variety of musical evenings, and concerts.
The restaurants are open all year as this is a working area, and provides excellent food to local residents as well as tourists. - No miserable waiters here, they are used to serving all year round and really value your custom.

“A charming cottage”

Reviewed 5 Oct 2015

It is very hard to find a gite for 2 with a pool so this attractive cottage was just what we wanted. The English owners are very pleasant and attentive, the welcome basket was the best I have ever encountered and absolutely delicious. As you can see from the photographs on the site the furnishings are to a very high standard and the towels of the best quality. The attractive garden added to our enjoyment. We had a very pleasant stay.

“Beautiful villa and relaxing stay”

Reviewed 29 Sep 2015

We had a marvellous holiday staying in the Papillon villa! Barbara and Richard were the perfect hosts - attentive and on hand but never intrusive, even going so far as to welcome us with a coq au vin dinner picnic basket to save us cooking on our first night (which was the best cooking we experienced all holiday!!). The villa is beautifully decorated, and the private pool (shared with Cigale) was a delight - we couldn't resist a dip every day. Lots to do in the surrounding area and best of all, blissfully peaceful both day and night. We came home totally refreshed and would recommend it to anyone.

“Lovely holiday”

Well presented and equipped property in peaceful location. Owners friendly and helpful. Lovely garden in which to relax. Ideally placed for exploring Languedoc. Coast about 40 miles. Clermont l'Herault town 5 mins away.

“Fantatsic, tranquill Honeymoon stay”

Reviewed 3 Aug 2013

Le Grand Hermitage was the perfect place for our Honeymoon. It is as beautiful, and tranquill as the photographs make it look and Papillon was perfectly equipped with everything we could have needed for our stay. The picnic on arrival was fantastic and a lovely way to start you holiday after a journey. Barbara and Richard are on hand with great suggestions of places to visit and things to see but also respect your privacy whilst you are there. We would highly recommend it to anyone wanting to explore this beautiful part of France.

“Comfort and Style”

Reviewed 21 Dec 2012

This was our third trip to Le Grand Hermitage but our first in which we stayed in Papillon. Like its sister villa Cigale, Papillon is fully equipped with everything you would could possibly need. On arrival you will find a picnic, prepared by Barbara and Richard waiting for you so that you do not have to rush to the supermarket to stock up immediately on arrival. There is a small country road which separates the property from the vineyards. Le Grand Hermitage is a five minute drive from Clermont L'Herault which has all the shops you are likely to need.

“Peaceful France”

Reviewed 19 Jul 2012

A stunning property very tastefully and comfortably done out. Barbara and Richard were incredibly welcoming and helpful when we had any queries. The property is in a lovely part of France with great restaurants, markets, scenery, historical points of interest - are all around!

“we plan to come back next year with friends”

Reviewed 15 Jul 2012

“An excellent property and one we intend returning to.”

Reviewed 25 Jun 2012

The gite was as good as it looked on the website, if not better. We were particularly lucky in that the other property was empty so we had the whole place to ourselves for most of the stay. The villa had wifi, satellite TV and music (bring your i-trip). We cooked in every night and made the most of the local produce, there are several supermarkets in Clermont L'Herault and a market on Wednesday. A home cooked meal with a bottle of wine - perfect. The hamlet of Villeneuvette was a short walk away across the vineyard and through the wood, a really easy walk. Only a few miles up the single track road was a small village with amazing rock formations, well worth a visit. We were left to our own devices, which was what we wanted, but Barbara and Richard were always available for advice on the surrounding area. Gorge of L'Herault was very good for swimming off the rocks in the river, canoe hire and the village St Guillame la Desert. Pezenas was well worth a visit, Lamalou-les-Bains and Lodeve less so. Montpellier is only 40 minutes away. There is so much to do in the area that our week only showed us all the things to come back for. This is a quiet rural villa near the small town of Clermont L'Herault, it's not a place to go for a wild party but exactly the place to go to recharge your batteries.
