“Perfect venue for family celebration”

Reviewed 7 Nov 2018

Stone Barn more than lived up to expectations. The Barn was amazing managing to balance style and 'wow' factor with cosy and relaxed. It was the perfect venue for a family celebration offering generous shared communal areas to both sit and relax as well as eating. The owners had provided everything that might be needed including board games and a good selection of books if needed ( although somehow did not find time to read!) The surrounding nature walks were great and the perfect way to walk off any excesses and work up an appetite. Thank you

“Well equipped, Comfy & spacious”

Reviewed 30 Jan 2018

We found Stone Barn to be incredibly homely with the most comfortable beds in all rooms, (everyone remarked on the quality of beds and linen), it was such a great relief to stay somewhere and actually get a good nights sleep. The Barn is very well equipped and lacked nothing, it was warm and cosy and we felt very much at home. No serious complaints, but with our 4 children and their partners (all in their mid 20's), the internet was very slow and we had to give up trying to use it! (maybe not such a bad thing!) Our dog came too and even towels for the dog were provided which is a nice touch. We will probably return in better climes although it is a bit of a distance to get anywhere, but it didn't really cause any problems. We had a fabulous time!!

Owner's reply: Thank you for your lovely review and we are glad that you enjoyed your special time together with your family. Yes the internet is a bit slower than most people are used to and we are all keen for improvements to rural services. We will continue to put pressure on our provider which is BT. Yes we are hidden away here, not far from Bude (about 20mins) but it definitely has its up side, wait until you see the wild flowers and butterflies in the summer ! We hope you will visit again and you are definitely welcome back any time.

“Couldn't recommend it enough!”

Reviewed 24 Jan 2018

We stayed at Stone Barn for a business trip and were so pleased with our decision! It is modern, spacious and clean but still has character and a homely feel to it. The kitchen and lounge were great spaces for us to all relax in in the evenings and we throughly enjoyed putting on the log fire with a glass of wine at the end of a long working day! Another aspect that meant a lot to us was how eco-friendly the house is and the recycling scheme that they have in place. Other great things to mention - Plenty of parking, the sat nav takes you straight there, all amenities such as washing up liquid and toilet roll are provided, there is a dishwasher and the oven can cook pizzas under 10minutes! Couldn't recommend it enough - Elaine and Dick have done a fantastic job.

Owner's reply: Thank you for your kind review, you are great guests and you're welcome back any time - best wishes elaine

“Perfect family get away”

Reviewed 23 May 2017

Just returned from a lovely long weekend with 4 generations of our family enjoying a stay here everything we could need was available, great place to stay really enjoyed a clean and very inviting large house

“relaxing weekend”

Reviewed 7 Jun 2012

we stayed at the stone barn for 40th birthday celebrations with a group of family and friends, including babies, toddlers and young children. the house was perfect for our needs and really homely, comfortable and good for socialising with the large kitchen area and living room with a double fronted fire. the use of the games room was great particularly as the weather was a bit mixed. despite the weather we got out and explored the nature trails a couple of times which required nothing other than walking out the front door (and a pair of boots) which took the effort out of getting some fresh air in nice surroundings. we had a thoroughly enjoyable weekend in a house that was very well kitted out and very confortable and clean without ever feeling like it had never been lived in. would highly recommend it as a place to put your feet up and relax.

“Perfect location for a family get together”

Reviewed 17 Apr 2012

We recently spent a wonderful week in Stone Barn/South Beer for a family celebration/get together with extended family, teenagers and young children plus 3 dogs. We all had a fantastic time thanks to the excellent help from the owners Elaine and Dick Green. Lovely homely touches when you arrive including homemade cakes. It really is the perfect location, where everyone can have their own space and go off for lovely walks in the woodlands and enjoy the peace and quiet of the North Devon countryside. The activity/games room is a real plus for those wet days and it proved to be a very good party room as well! Thoroughly recommended.

“A perfect family getaway.”

Reviewed 19 Feb 2012

The Stone barn is a truly beautiful eco-cottage that has been renovated to the highest of standards. All the fixtures and fittings have been carefully thought through and blend in superbly with the chosen decor. The barn has a very warm and comfortable feel and we felt very at home either snuggled up on the sofas or enjoying a drink around the kitchen table. The kitchen itself is very well equipped: from utensils and cling film to vinegar, eggs and even a welcoming, delicious home made cake! The children loved getting all wrapped up, popping their wellies on and going for walks through the stunning nature reserve. The beautiful seaside town of Bude was within easy reach, as was Dartmoor and Okehampton.

“A great place for a large family or group of friends to stay”

Reviewed 12 Aug 2011

Initially we were all very impressed by the high quality of the barn conversion. Everything inside the barn--furniture bathroom/kitchen fittings were both tasteful and in keeping with the conversion. (No second hand tatty settees or rickety tables!!) The open plan kitchen (large) lead on to a substantiial sitting room. The bedrooms were spacious ,and the separate playroom (large enough to play full size table tennis) was an added bonus. The garden-mainly grass was big enough to kick a ball around, and for the younger members of the family to run about. The owner was welcoming and very informative regarding the Eco focus of the barn and conservation in the surrounding woods and fields. All of us --three generations thoroughly enjoyed our stay. A small point. As the property is off the beaten track , access is up a track which low slung cars would need to be very careful. A second TV might be a useful addition (play room?) Saves all ages having to watch Children's TV for peace and quiet!

Owner's reply: Thank you for your kind review, we will certainly look into your suggestion regarding the extra tv and we will continue to do our best to maintain and stone the access track to the Stone Barn.
