Very Good

“Beautiful, relaxing, well-equipped cottage in picturesque surroundings, with perfect host.”

Reviewed 28 Dec 2016

From the moment we arrived Kevin made us feel at home. This was our first Christmas away from our own home. We chose the location in order to be close to my wife's elderly mother. The cottage was decorated with a tree & beautiful garlands, which was beyond our expectations. The owners go beyond what's expected, leaving us a special Christmas welcome care package - milk, eggs, butter, freshly baked scones, chocolates & biscuits. The cottage is comfortable, spotlessly clean & fully equipped with everything you might need & more. It was warm & cosy, the perfect Christmas hideaway. The surroundings are beautiful. Kevin kindly gave us a tour of the deer scantuary and we had a few nice strolls around the lake. Had the weather been warmer, we might even have given the fishing a go. We left there with the feeling that this won't be our last stay at Hillfarm house.

“Extremely quiet and peaceful”

Reviewed 12 Aug 2016

If you like somewhere quiet, peaceful and isolated then this is the place to stay. Kevin is very friendly and welcoming, and provided fresh eggs, milk, cereal, bread, ham, cheese to get us started. Tea and coffee were also provided. There is plenty of room in the cottage, and our son and daughter soon chose their upstairs bedrooms. The lounge/diner is well laid out and the kitchen has all the things needed for self catering. My only single concern is the lack of shelving for tooth brushes, deodorant etc. and, towel hanging space in the bathroom and the lack of an electric shaver socket. However, this is only small issue and is easily overcome with a bit of imagination. The deer field is truly amazing, and Kevin will take guests out into the field in his truck to see the deer close up, although they are wild so don't come too close, but it is a memorable sight. The walk around the lake and fields is also nice. The cottage is well placed to visit nearby attractions, the coast is about an hour away to the north, Derry City is well worth a visit and is only a short drive away. There is nothing here to disturb the peace and quiet of the location as this is not a working farm with tractors around and so it is quite safe for children to stay too.

Owner's reply: Hi Andrew, Thank you for taking the time to write us a lovely review regarding our holiday cottage and suggestions in ref to the bathroom area, It was a pleasure having you and your family stay and hope to see yous all in the near future. Kind regards Kevin

“A really warm and comfortable holiday home set in beautiful peaceful countryside”

Reviewed 3 Sep 2015

The cottage was very warm and comfortable with everything a family would need for a stay in the countryside. The host, Kevin, was very welcoming, friendly and helpful. My grandson really enjoyed the time he spent fishing in the large pond, with help from Kevin. This was much appreciated and meant a lot to us. Kevin also made sure we had some basic food in the kitchen when we arrived which made us feel very welcome. This included bread, butter, cereals, milk, fresh eggs and fruit. The surrounding countryside is beautiful and it is a very peaceful setting. It also has easy access to the many interesting places to visit in Northern Ireland. I would certainly recommend this place to anyone looking for somewhere to stay in Northern Ireland and would be very happy to stay there again.
