Description from owner

Description

In a quiet spot in the heart of Cirencester, Cotswold Place dates back to the 17th century. Beautifully restored it not only oozes character but provides the highest quality accommodation.

An atmospheric living area has a soft velvet sofa, antiques and original art beneath ancient beams. For cold nights there is a log stove. On sunny days relax in a private courtyard. Full of historic charm this is a perfect base for a Cirencester stay

The owners, an art advisor and interior designer, have taken great care in creating a unique interior of great style in a restoration of the highest quality. Original features have been retained with beamed ceilings, exposed Cotswold stone walls and old fireplaces.

The idyllic bedroom has a 19th century brass bed with a romantically themed painted headboard and footboard. There is a ultra comfortable Caspar mattress with crisp white Soak and Sleep linen.

Gold anglepoise lamps sit on antique 'Arts & Crafts' side tables. Overhead a vintage French crystal chandelier illuminates the 17th century beams and a cotswold stone wall.

The second bedroom has a John Lewis bed and luxury Eve mattress.

In the lounge there is a velvet sofa, antique Persian rug, 18th century dining table and chairs, interesting antiques, fine art and classic books. Lighting is discrete whilst a log stove provides a delightful atmosphere. The lounge windows overlook Cricklade Street and there is occasional modest street noise.

The kitchen is all new, fully fitted and has all usual facilities plus extras like a Nespresso machine and frother, Nutribullet, dishwasher and washer/dryer.

The bathroom features a full bath, stand-up shower with glass screen, loads of hot water, deep-pile towels and quality toiletries from Cole & Lewis White Collection.

The latest Sony LED TV, with freeview is located in the living room together with a bluray DVD player and lots of varied films. There is unlimited free wi-fi. For music there is a full choice with digital Roberts radio, bluetooth stereo speakers, CD player and a CD collection

For storage the main bedroom has wall hooks and some drawers. The 2nd bedroom has a small wardrobe. When one bedroom only is booked for a 2 person stay guests have access to the 2nd bedroom for storage but we ask that the bed is not used in any way.

The apartment is located on a quiet road within a minutes walk of the very heart of historic Cirencester and all of its varied shopping and dining facilities.

Close to town, country pub dining is available at The Bell at Sapperton, Wild Duck, Trouble House Inn, Potting Shed and Village Pub Barnsley, all within 10 mins drive. For fine dining try Barnsley House, Calcot Manor or The Rectory.

Within half an hour are the widely varied attractions of the entire Cotswold region. The cities of Bath, Bristol & Cheltenham are all within one hours drive.

Babes in arms and small well behaved pets possible upon request. There is a pet charge of £30 per pet per stay, payable upon confirmation and subject to acceptance. No child facilities of any sort are provided.

Getting around

Ciren lies close to the heart of the scenic Cotswold region with major attractions like Stow, Chipping Camden and Burford and bigger destinations like Bath and Cheltenham all within about 40 minutes drive. Only slightly farther afield are Shakespeare's Stratford, Stonehenge, Blenheim Palace and the dreaming spires of Oxford. Asphodel is a perfect base to relax or explore. But you don't always need 'destinations'. One of the delights of the Cotswolds is touring the picturesque country lanes and discovering picture postcard villages where the tourist buses never venture. Relax in the garden of the village cafe or by the fire in the historic pub. All our local recommendations and secrets are revealed in your cottage welcome guide.

“Great Location, Cosy and Welcoming - Landlord could not do enough for us”

Reviewed 29 Mar 2021

We rented this cottage for 5 days and we found it to be very comfortable, great location, with great facilities and very close to all the shops. Any suggestions for improvements were taken on board were welcomes by the landlord. Fabulous shop across road selling premade meals and were able to cook these nightly after a long day working. The apartment had everything from washing machine/tumble dryer, full kitchen facilities and a log burning stove. It was particularly cold the week we went (Beast from the East winds) and the fire was a godsend. Parking was all right as we found we could on street park up after 6pm and stay there till 9 am. But there is a carpark less than 1 mins walk away with Tesco shopping facilities. The apartment is compact and bijoux - but it is very homely, well decorated and and enough space for the 3 of us. (Double bed and one single.) The owners manual was a nice touch as it helped you to see the owners as human beings with ethics and a love for the environment. And they clearly love this apartment and have made the best of the space. Would definitely book again

“A lovely town-centre apartment”

Reviewed 17 Dec 2020

You'll be most impressed with Martin's lovely flat. Farrow-and-Ball'd to within an inch of its life, it's an excellent conversion of a age-old building that is high-end yet cosy. Perfectly situated within a short walk (or, at my age, a short stumble) of town, you couldn't be better placed for the lovely shops, market and myriad pubs and restaurants that Ciren has to offer. Martin's communication is second to none. Nothing is left to chance and everything is perfect, even down to the provision of coffee pods and dishwasher tablets. And it's absolutely great for we Brits as there's plenty of wine and champagne glasses! Do visit - you won't regret it.

“Lovely apartment in the heart of Cirencester”

Reviewed 22 Oct 2020

The apartment is simply lovely - not too much, not too little. Situated in the heard of Cirencester, everything is just a few mins walk away (including some lovely eateries). And for those winter nights that you don't want to go out - there is a wood burning stove and mini kitchen! We are looking to go back in the next few months. Highly recomended!
