Location description from owner

The England region

Located in the South West of England in the county of Gloucestershire The Royal Forest of Dean, once called 'The Queen of the Forests All', is one of the most fascinating regions of Britain. In 1938 these woods covering 57 square miles, together with those of the Wye Valley were designated the "Wye Valley and Dean Forest Park" one of Britain's first National Forest Parks. Steeped in history and culture the Forest of Dean remains one of the oldest and most valuable of Britain's woodlands and one of the few survivors of the ancient Royal Forests of England.

Surrounded by woodland and sandwiched between the Rivers Wye and Severn the Forest of Dean is located close to the South Wales and Herefordshire boarders (both approximately 30 minutes car ride away) making it a great base from which to explore. The area has much to offer, whether you are looking for a peaceful woodland retreat or hoping to take advantage of the many activities in the area the Forest of Dean can provide it all.

“Would love to stay again!”

Reviewed 27 Dec 2016

We had an amazing Christmas staying at Woodland barn, the cottage is very modern with all the appliances you would need. We arrived to lovely welcome gifts and the cottage was beautifully decorated with a Christmas tree. The cottage has stunning views with a great location as there is village nearby which is very convenient. The barn has a large patio and garden great for all seasons! Dog friendly too :) great walks close by. I would definitely recommend.

Thank you for the lovely review. We hope that we can welcome you again sometime.

“first class”

Booking was easy and response fast. Woodland barn was very good, very well presented and clean. The views where to die for overlooking the valley and river seven. Plenty to do in the local area and lots of walks. I would recommend the woodland barn to anyone.

“A little Gem, in Forest of Dean”

Reviewed 23 Sep 2012

This little Barn conversion has been finished to a very high standard, it's owners keep it beautifully, we were 4 OAP's and 2 dogs, and had a wonderful short break. The view from the patio certainly had the Wow factor. The welcome pack was a very nice touch. We would certainly recommend Woodland Barn to anyone wanting a break in this area there is so much to do and see nearby. The kitchen has every device you could wish for, even a slow cooker if you wish to put a meal on before you go out for the day. There are plenty of good places to eat nearby, if you don't wish to cook. Will certainly book this place again.

“Beautiful location, outstanding accommodation”

Reviewed 31 Jan 2012

My partner and I stayed in this charming cottage last summer, It was not our first time in the area; we love it so much we regularly visit. The Forest of Dean is an exceptionally beautiful area of England. There are many places to visit and lots of great walks to be had. Living in London we rarely get a chance to experience the countryside so when visiting this area we like to make the most of it and this great holiday cottage certainly enabled us to do that! The cottage itself is very spacious with a generous double room and very large twin room. The kitchen is really modern and easily large enough to cook up a big family meal. The standard of finish is not restricted solely to the kitchen and continues through the entire property. Fresh bedding and towels were provided and the beds were really comfortable. The location was great with an amazing view from the garden patio over the local countryside and great views of the river. We spent most mornings having breakfast on the patio soaking up the countryside air and stunning view, very happy! The forest also was right on our back door step so we could enjoy impromptu walks without any travelling in the car etc. Overall, had a brilliant stay and will definitely visit again.

“Great location with stunning views”

Reviewed 21 Jan 2012

We booked the cottage between Christmas and New Year to be near family and friends but the location would make an ideal base for exploring the area. The rear of the cottage enjoys fantastic views towards the River Severn and there is a large patio area that would be perfect for summer bbqs. The cottage was spotless on arrival and well equipped. Would definitely stay again.
