The kitchen, family bathroom and walk in dressing room were installed by top Devon designers Ashgrove and offer modern beautiful fittings the rest of the house is very well equipped, clean and modern providing the very best you would expect from a rental.

We have a large patio dining and BBQ area outside the back door and down below we have a small patio seating enclosed area under the balcony bridge from the TV music room bedroom which is great and the upper bedroom suite has a balcony area with stunning views. There are large flat lawns, a childs play area and orchard.

Normal changeover is Friday. Rental fee must be paid in full 8 weeks prior to the start of the booking along with a £250 cautionary deposit. The cautionary deposit will be returned within 5 days of departure, after the property has been checked and any breakages have been deducted.

To confirm your booking a non-refundable deposit is required along with details of the booking party. The house is booked on a first come first served basis. We cannot hold dates until we receive the deposit. Once the deposit information and payment have been received, the booking is considered confirmed. We advise you to take out cancellation insurance should you decide to cancel at a future date. An additional fee applies to hen parties who book.

No smoking, pets are welcome on notification. No fireworks due to the proximity of thatched neighbours. We will accept single sex and younger groups below 25 years old at our discretion. We require a list of names and ages of holidaymakers at the time of booking. Only people named on the booking can stay at the houses. Further visitors are strictly with the prior consent of the owners, with names and numbers agreed in advance.

The use of drugs or any illegal substance is strictly forbidden and will result in immediate termination of your stay. Excessively loud or drunken behaviour is not acceptable.

The Devon region

The house is located just a 10 minute drive from Exeter City Centre on the edge of the Dartmoor National Park in the village of Christow. No matter which direction you turn you can visit the City, the open Moors or the shores of Devon within a short drive.

The village of Christow is set in the beautiful Teign Valley which has the river of the same name cutting through it carrying the water from the moorlands beyond. On our door step we have many walks and attractions for all tastes. The village is blessed with 2 pubs and there are another 4 within a short walk or drive. We have a village store, post office and the house is opposite the Saxon church of St James.


There are numerous activities for everybody in the local area. Walk to the top of Haytor's Rock, bike ride at Haldon Forrest, have lunch at the 15th Century Artichoke Inn, see England's highest waterfall at Cononteign Estate, visit the wonderful Miniature Pony Centre, have a mad family day at Devon's Crealy Park, walk the dog at Dunsford Bridge, see the amazing Exeter Cathedral and fine dine at Michael Caine's Restaurant overlooking the green or drink & eat at one of the numerous amazing Dartmoor pubs. We could go on and on but there really is something for everyone as you would expect from the best holiday location in the world!

Our large family - grandma, grandad, our children (and their children (13 in total) all stayed in this property for a long weekend as we were attending a family wedding at The Great Barn. The house was well equipped to deal with this number. More like a home than a holiday rental. Lots of toys for the grandchildren. A lovely garden with outdoor play equipment. Would recommend this property for a holiday. Thanks Stuart.

"Great property in lovely location"

We stayed at the property to celebrate a family birthday. The property was well presented and equipped with lots of personal touches and had plenty of room to accommodate us all and allow people personal space. The younger members loved the games room and we enjoyed hearing them laugh whilst enjoying a drink on the patio! The dining room table was fantastic for sharing a big family meal and I loved the hearts dotted throughout! The village is picturesque and peaceful and the little church totally charming. I look forward to revisiting in the future.

"Peace, relaxation and luxury."

A 7 night stay in this wonderful house was not long enough! Applegarth is very well equipped, tastefully decorated and extremely spacious. Even with 12 adults there was room for everyone - we particularly liked the huge dining table. Great views too, the quaint church opposite and the hills beyond. The outside area was larger than expected and we were lucky enough to get some sunshine and take advantage of it! The house is in a great location both for exploring Dartmoor and the spectacular coastline. Christow village is charming and has a lovely traditional pub, The Artichoke Inn, where we were always given a warm welcome and a hearty meal - not to mention sampling the fine beers and wines! Would do it all again!

"Outstanding house which was very comfortable and very homely."

Lovely location, very comfortable and homely. The landlord of the local pub was very welcoming and friendly. We had a large family gathering for christmas and the property was ideal. The only problem is the lack of mobile phone signal but for me that was a god send.

"Be careful you don[--]t get scammed"

We stayed at Applegarth last weekend and had a nice stay. However, the whole experience has been tainted by the owner accusing us of having extra people stay when we kept to the maximum capacity of 12. The owner has basically called me a liar and has kept our £250 deposit! This has caused a lot of stress and ruined what was an enjoyable weekend.

This person broke our clear T&C's & then some as stated on our booking form details, as follows: 1) Failed to declare the names of all people actually staying having changed occupants without informing us for insurance liability. 2) Had up to 16 people in the house despite booking 12 on 1 night at least (unauthorised occupants even signed the visitors book proving this). 3) Left the kitchen & dining area full of washing up and all cooking items in the cupboards put back soiled & greasy incurring 2.5hrs extra changeover time. 4) Put cut glass in the dishwasher which subsequently broke. 5) As a result of the above had 6 cars for 2 days on the driveway despite booking 4. 6) By all accounts the occassion was a hen party from the items and evidence left on departure which is not a problem however they denied this and tried to give the impression it was not, for some reason? 6) Agreed a fair settlement of the deposit with me to return £75 to close the matter and then posted this review anyway! We run a lovely house & a professional business within fair straight forward rules to make our guest experiences the best they can be safe in the knowledge they are covered and protected. 99% of the time the whole experience is fantastic for all but now and again :-)

"Fantastic Property Great Location"

A beautiful well equipt (inside and out) property in a fantastic village location which exceeded all our expectations. A very welcoming local pub within walking distance which served great food at a very reasonable price and a 5% discount!!! We enjoyed our stay so much that we have all intentions of returning again sooner rather than later. Would highly recomend this rental property. Tips. No mobile phone signal. There is Wifi within the property but get instructions on how to connect prior to your arrival
