The England region
Welcome to Dorset, a small country that is big on beautiful countryside, stunning beaches, activities & attractions & some of the vest local food & drink that you could wish for.
The beaches along the South Coast are among the best in the UK & they offer something for everyone: you'll find family beaches with traditional donkey rides & Punch & Judy; secluded coves for those looking for peace & quiet; with golden sands that stretch out as far as the eye can see.
You may recognise some of the dramatic coastline & unspoilt countryside from your TV screens as Dorset has featured in many film & televisions productions, of the most recent being ITV's drama Broadchurch which was filmed at West Bay, which is only a half hour drive from Chickerell, over the beautiful coastal road, which has the most breath taking views in Dorset.
The Jurassic Coast extends from Orcombe Point in East Devon to Old Harry Rocks in Dorset. It is the only place in the world where the geology, exposed in cliffs for all to see, is a near-continuous sequence of rocks revealing 185 million years of the Earth's history in just 95 miles of coastline.
Explore the coast by walking along the South West Coast Path which is widely considered one of the world's greatest walks & it's easy to see why. Every day walking it is filled with adventure, taking in breath taking scenery, inspirational heritage & fascinating wildlife & geology.
The countryside has its charms throughout the year but nothing can match the beauty of the spring & summer months when carpets of bluebells & roadside primroses followed by meadows of wild flowers & fields of dazzling yellow rapeseed.
Stately homes & castles, family attractions & museums, boat trips & water sports, theatres & art galleries - there's certainly no shortage of places to go & things to do here. Dorset is well known for hosting a wide variety of fabulous events throughout the year & these include fabulous food festivals, steam fairs, music festivals, motor shows, outdoor theatre performances & all manner of carnivals & country fairs
Get a real flavour of Dorset by trying some locally caught fish & crab, home grown vegetables, dairy products made by nearby farms, the famous Dorset Apple cake, handmade chocolates, artisan breads - there's a mouth watering selection of local goodies can be enjoyed in restaurants or bought to take home.
We hope you find Dorset simply the best place to take a well deserved break away.
