Location description from owner

The Italian Riviera region

Liguria is a beautiful region between the sea and the Apennines. The coastal side is the famous Italian Riviera, for years the haunt of the rich and famous including Portofino and the Cinque Terre. Liguria is rich in vegetation and has many spectacular vistas and natural itineraries in its regional parks and reserves. The area offers many areas for walking and hiking. The beautiful coastline provides many opportunities for horse- riding, cycling, and on-foot excursions. The Alta Via dei Monti Liguri stretches along 400km of mountains crossing a landscape typically characterized by lush vegetation and rugged cliffs. The sea is another great resource of this region, rich in marine life which includes tortoises and dolphins. These can be spotted in the sea mammal sanctuary established to protect this maritime area. The Tigullio bay, enclosed by the nature reserve of the mount of Portofino and the peninsula of Sestri Levante, offers splendid views of the Mediterranean.

Chiavari

Chiavari, which is situated in the centre of the bay, is a typical Ligurian town characterized by a historical centre with arches and shady, colonnaded streets. It is a small town which offers many elegant shops, good restaurants and an excellent opportunity to live life at a relaxed pace. We are on a small hill, surrounded by olive groves, close to all coastal amenities including beaches, marina and promenade restaurants, as well as to the centre of the town. We aim to cater for your needs and offer three different properties for you to choose from:Olive Press Lodge: a comfortable villa that sleeps 6 guests;Garden Lodge: a smaller apartment that sleeps 4 guests;Belvedere Lodge: ideal for a couple. Our properties are all close to each other, making them ideal for groups of friends or families who wish to holiday together yet maintaining their own independence. We have an outdoor pool, a barbecue area, outdoor dining areas and terraces. The properties are set in the olive groves, surrounded by fruit trees and lush vegetation. We are about a 15-minute walk from the promenade, the marina the railway station and the centre of town.Florence, Milan and Turin are easily reached by train from Chiavari. Portofino and the Cinque Terre are about an hour away and are easily accessible by boat, car or train.

“Amazing Stay”

Reviewed 18 Jul 2014

The Olive Press Lodge was amazing, even better than the pictures. Thomas (host/owner) was so lovely and really went above and beyond for our stay. From here it is a short drive to most of the Italian Riviera and not too far to explore Cinque Terre. Great place with more space and mod cons then you would get staying in these areas and are just down the road. There are essentially 2 master bedrooms and another with single beds so is great for a small group travelling as well.

“Gorgeous house and”

Reviewed 4 Jun 2014

Absolutely amazing experience. We were two young couples and a baby staying in Thomas's Olive Lodge for 4 days and we truly enjoyed it. Thomas was very generous host and helped us in many ways, including finding a babysitter for our son. The Lodge is nicely decorated and very spacious, so it could easily accommodate 6 people. Highly recommend it!

“Excellent holiday home, beautiful gardens and lovely situation.”

Reviewed 19 May 2014

The house is nicely furnished, well equipped and very comfortable, ideal for self-catering. Six of us welcomed having 3 good bathrooms. Adriana and Thomas were very helpful and made our stay more enjoyable. We did not have a car and walked to local shops in 10 minutes, the town centre in 15 and the station in 25. Chiavari is less touristy and well stocked with shops, bars and restaurants and is an ideal as a base for exploring the Cinque Terre and Portofino penisula. The gardens are perfect for relaxing with views down over the town to the coast. Minor quibbles: the singe beds are quite narrow, the less fit will find the hill to the house steep and those with excellent hearing may hea rtraffic on the motorway. Don't let these put you off - this is a great place to stay.

“Beautiful property in fascinating surrounding area.”

Reviewed 23 Oct 2012

From the efficient booking process (which I did directly with the owner) to our greeting on arrival, Adriana was very friendly and welcoming. The Olive Press was a very special and relaxing place, exactly to our taste, with plenty of space and equipment for three couples, and in beautiful gardens. Everything in the accommodation was superb, with especially comfy beds. There was an easy walk into Chiavari, a very interesting, historic town, with busy antique, craft and general markets along its streets, covered arcades and in piazzas on three days while we were there. We loved exploring the area and could have spent longer than our week in October, as there was yet more to do. Highly recommended.

“Beautiful top quality property in interesting location”

Reviewed 24 Jan 2012

Beautiful and top quality property and grounds in interesting location 20 minutes walk back from town centre/seafront of lively resort town. You can drive down too! Excellent both as a base for exploring the area or for relaxing in the villa and around the pool. Coastal train is the best way of getting along the coast either to Cinque Terra (East) or Genoa (West). Relaxed, friendly and helpful owning family live in adjacent main house (The Olive Press). You can hear traffic on the coastal autoroute further up the hill, but it's part of the character of this coast and it never bothered us. The many comments in the Visitor's Book are unanimously positive about all aspects of this special place, including those from several returnees from several continents.

“Ideal for a family holiday”

Reviewed 29 Nov 2011

We were very pleasantly surprised when we arrived at Olive Press for a one week stay Delightful and friendly Adriana greeted us and escorted us to the 3 bedroom Villa This villa exceeded our expectations. The Facilities available such as car parking, swimming pool and garden settings were outstanding The location which is a 10 minute walk to the centre of Chiavari and another 5 minutes walk to the beach was very convenient We loved our stay there and would highly reccommended this location for any couple or family

“Lovely villa with good views and easy walking into town”

Reviewed 28 Nov 2011

Lovely well equipped villa in a great setting on the edge of Chiavari, easy walking into town and local supermarket and a good location for the ligurian coast. Plenty to do, we did diving at portofino, some good restaurants locally. Roads are very busy but it was August! Enjoyed pool, it's not easy to find a villa near the coast and town with a pool.

“Super comfortable villa for a relaxing holiday”

Reviewed 27 Nov 2011

Wonderful place , owner very welcoming, relaxing week with swimming pool and BBQ.

“A charming villa within easy reach of beaches and restaurants”

Reviewed 27 Nov 2011

We had a fantastic holiday in this immaculately presented villa. It was a great base for trips along the Ligurian coast for spectacular scenery and pretty seaside towns. We enjoyed the pool in the early evening before strolling into Chiavari for dinner in one of the many excellent restaurants which serve real local food.

“Exactly as shown on the site - Spotlessly clean - central location”

Reviewed 6 Oct 2011

Central location for Portofino and cinque terre. The apartment was spotlessly clean. Owners family helpfull, english speaking and left you alone to enjoy your holiday. Had a great time.
