When large parties want to be able to celebrate together in a luxurious peaceful setting but also want the option of some quiet time whenever they want it, Redyeates Cottage is the perfect solution. The property consists of two luxury cottages (The Dairy and the Barn) just a few steps away from each other. One of the cottages is ground floor level which is also perfect if there are older guests with any mobility issues. There is a luxurious split-level large lounge and dining area overlooking the grounds accommodating up to 16 people. There are two large lounges in total and 3 separate dining areas which is perfect when people want a little bit of quiet time on their own.

For those that like a large bed, there are 4 super-king bedrooms (all en-suite), a king-size bedroom and a twin bedded room. Redyeates Cottage also has options to configure bedding differently if, for example, more single beds were required instead of super-king beds. Two of the super-king bedrooms can be changed to accommodate 3 singles if required and we have good quality settee beds as well.

The solid oak refectory dining table seats up to 14 people, the Barn kitchen table seats 10 and the larger lounge has a log burning stove. The property looks over the grounds and the rolling Devon country-side beyond and there is a large patio area with access to the 3 acres of gardens for family BBQs and games.

The 3 acre grounds include an all weather tennis court (resurfaced in 2013) and there are many other things to do such as table tennis, trampoline (yes adults do that too!) and plenty for the children to do such as a quality swing-set and climbing frame as well as goalposts for those that want a quick game of football.

Redyeates Cottage is also in a fantastic location if you love the dramatic scenery of rolling Devon countryside, total peace and quiet (there are no near neighbours) and lots to do locally being within easy reach of Exeter (20 mins) as well as both of the north and south coastlines (40 mins). We are also just 12 miles from each of the National Parks at Exmoor and Dartmoor. Local pubs and good food are also close-by as well as many of the normal Devon tourist attractions.

Our changeover day is a Friday. Outside of our peak season (which is typically when the children are off school) we can be more flexible and operate a minimum 3 nights on weekends (Fri-Mon) and 4 nights during the week (Mon-Fri). If you require something slightly different, please make contact and we will see if we can accommodate your needs. We don't accept stag / hen weekends.

The Devon region

The region is particularly noted for its beautiful rolling Devon countryside and it is a fantastic location for great days out.

You have the option of visiting many tourist attractions in the area without having to spend a long time in the car. You also have the option if you want a day at the beach to drive to either of the north or south coastlines with their pretty fishing villages and coves as well as rock pools for the children. Either coastline is easily accessible by car. We are also centrally located between either of the National Parks (Exmoor and Dartmoor) being just 12 miles from either park where there are fantastic walks, riding, fishing or cycling opportunities.

If the Cathedral City of Exeter is more your thing, it is about 20 minutes away. Here you will find all of the major shops and a huge selection of good places to eat as well as the attractive Exeter quayside.

Cheriton Fitzpaine

There is a lot to do nearby and the property is surrounded by a huge variety of attractions and depending on what you like, there is something for everyone within a short distance. Close by, there are pubs with good food, a fantastic farm shop for local produce as well as places to walk & cycle etc.

In Bickleigh (10 minutes), is a beautiful Devon village with many thatched cottages, a 400 year old pub, the Devon Railway centre and 'The Fisherman's Cot', a great pub with thatched roof to eat or drink inside or outside overlooking the river. Bickleigh Mill has an 18th century working water wheel, a woodland, beautiful walks along the river and a maze. The Trout is another traditional pub with a beautiful thatched roof. The Mill also has a large shop with gifts, clothing, pottery and crafts and there is an excellent Bistro restaurant and bar open during the day and serving evening meals on certain nights.

Crediton (12 mins) is an old town steeped in history and character with shops, cafes, pubs, a park and large historic church. The market square often has live music events, markets and food fayres going on throughout the holiday period.

In each of our cottages we have an information pack full of ideas for great days out and some further examples in the surrounding area include:-

Devon Railway Centre – 5 miles

Yearlstone Vineyard – 5 miles

12th Century Tiverton Castle – 7 miles

Trout fishery (learn to fish) – 8 miles

Cathedral City of Exeter – 10 miles

Exmoor National Park – 12 miles

Dartmoor National Park – 12 miles

Quad Biking at Quad World – 13 miles

Crealy Adventure Park – 17 miles

National Trust – Castle Drogo – 17 miles

The Devon Railway Centre

Great for the younger ones (or anyone that likes a ride on a narrow gauge railway) and with an indoor play area, wildlife area and the recently added model village, the Devon Railway centre is a real hit with the kids.

Yearlstone Vineyard

Great for the older ones (or children interested in how wine is made), Yearlstone Vineyard is just 5 miles (12 minutes) away and is the oldest vineyard in Devon. Take in a tour of the vineyard and maybe stop for lunch at the vineyard's Deli Shack Cafe with a terrace that overlooks the lovely river Exe valley.

The Devon School of Fishing

Learn to Fish or improve your technique. Fun for all ages, the Devon School of Fly Fishing caters for all age groups and all skill levels from total beginners.

Quad World

This is one for all the family or relax with a coffee while the kids have fun. For all ages from 6 upwards, Quad World is a well run adventure with smaller quads for the young ones and proper tuition ensuring your children are safe before they go off on their own. The track is half a mile long.

National Trust – Castle Drogo

With the usual National Trust facilities, Castle Drogo was the last ever castle to be built in England. Taking in the beauty of the Teign Valley, or stretching your legs in the gardens, which are perfect for a summer picnic (picnic areas provided), there's plenty to see from the colourful rhododendron valley and rose gardens to the quaint Bunty House (Wendy House) complete with its own miniature garden.

Breakfast is served here from 8.30 every morning if you fancy an early start and there are cafes & shops with local produce and plenty for the children to do with quiz/trail, walks, talks and art and craft workshops.

According to the Daily Telegraph, the best walk in Dartmoor is from Castle Drogo to Fingle Gorge: a two-hour round trip that takes you past the dramatic castle and through an oak-lined gorge to an ancient stone bridge and traditional pub – classic Dartmoor sights….. enjoy.

Lustleigh Village on Dartmoor

Hidden in a wooded combe, this film-set-perfect village is one of Dartmoor's most lovingly maintained. Its thatched cottages are grouped around a 13th-century church, with the Primrose Tea Rooms to one side and village shop to the other. The rural idyll is completed by the cricket pitch, communal apple orchard and a friendly pub serving real ales and great food.

Crealy – Devon's Greatest Adventure Park

The Park has over 60 rides and attractions set in over 100 acres of glorious Devon countryside. The park caters for the whole family, from the smallest children to parents and grandparents alike. There are over 100 animals, 30 outdoor attractions and a variety of other activities to choose from. With heart-stopping rides for thrill seekers to soft-play and animal petting for younger guests, Devon's Crealy is a major South West attraction for family days out.

"Wonderful location, amazing service, perfect break"

We stayed over a long weekend with a party of 15 staying in both the main house and the 'barn'. Arriving Friday afternoon we really couldn't of asked for a warmer welcome by the owners who showed us around both properties and how everything worked adding to a lovely welcome pack which again was above and beyond expectations. Once our full party arrived from around the country we drunk in the amazing scenery and several bottles until early the next morning using the tennis court and pool table throughout the evening with varying levels of success! We went out on the Saturday afternoon but returned for more garden based sports and food to be complimented by the scenery and house again. The Sunday afternoon in the garden was peaceful and relaxing with one of those 'chilled' afternoons you always say you are going to take at home but never do! We cleared up after ourselves on the Monday as most would and returned the keys to the owner when I have to admit I was a little sheepish as we grew a little louder over the later hours but they heard nothing and were nothing but relaxed and charming as they has been over the weekend whenever we had seen them, The biggest compliment I can pass is that all of our party wanted to book again to take families and friends and the whole experience was amazing, if Gary and Louise do read this I can only say thank you again from all of us!!

"A perfect place for a big family bash!"

Our family of 18, including 3year olds and teenagers, spent a weekend here to celebrate our mother's 70th birthday. We all had a wonderful time. Great, spacious accommodation, in a lovely part of Devon. Superb and helpful owners who communicated well with us before the weekend. We could not have asked for more. The children loved the play area and trampoline and the old boys(all in their 40s) enjoyed many an hour on the tennis court. We'll be back!

"Family relaxing retreat."

Wow. What a wonderful way to get all the family together! So much space and so peaceful and relaxing. Kitchen was perfect for out big family breakfasts and great to be able to seat all 12 around one table. The pub nearby was perfect for Sunday lunch in fact gave us the whole bar to eat in. Looking forward to spending another trip here this summer.
