Description from owner

Description

Watermeadows is a beautifully restored, traditional Creusoise farmhouse on a 5 acre smallholding on the banks of La Petite Creuse River. With lakes and beaches near by it is an ideal romantic retreat or makes a perfect holiday with family or friends.

The house has been sympathetically resorted and combines its many traditional features with modern comforts and conveniences. There are 3 bedrooms, one en-suite, a large, comfortable living room with a wood-burning stove, dining room and French country kitchen.

In the cooler months, spend time in the cosy living room in front of the wood burning fire and in the summer enjoy the beautiful, private gardens or wander down to river bank. Watermeadows really is an idyllic place to be all year round.

Location description from owner

The Limousin region

La Creuse is an idyllic rural department well known for its rolling hills, lakes and fishing, known as the 'Lake District of France'. Some of the best carp fishing in Europe is to be found in the regions many lakes many of which have sandy beaches with life guards, cafes, restaurants and water sports.

Gueret is the Department capital with all the facilities of a large town. Limoges, the regional capital, is famous for its porcelain. Nearby places of interest include La Celle Dunoise, one of the most picturesque villages in France, Crozant with its 12th century ruins and stunning gorge immortalised on canvas by Monet, La Souterraine, with its medieval town centre and the delightful town of Aubusson, famous for it tapistries and wall hangings. Also worth visiting is the Loups de Chabrieres, near Gueret, where you can see wolves in a natural environment.

Cheniers

Champeau de Bas lies halfway between the market town of Aigurande and Cheniers. Aigurande holds a market every Friday morning and all the facilities of a small town including a supermarket, post office, petrol station, boulangerie, boucherie and banking facilities.

The town of Cheniers has a local shop, tabac, auberge and post office. The renowned annual brocante is usually held on the second weekend of August. Near by is the Tuilerie de Pouligny where you can visit the museum or have a go at making some pottery.

In the nearby town of La Celle Dunoise you can hire bikes, canoes and horse ride.

Within a fifteen minute drive you can enjoy swimming and water sports at Le Bourg-d'Hem lake.
