The Somerset region
Situated in the heart of Somerset, Cheddar Gorge is in an area of outstanding natural beauty (AONB) and a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), a 2005 Radio Times readers poll named it the second greatest natural wonder in Britain.
Cheddar its self has the Magnificent caves and gorge and with the beautiful seaside resorts such as Weston super mare famous for its beach lawns and it's newly refurbished Pier, Burnham on sea with its shortest pier in Britain, and Brean down with its dramatic cliffs and victorian fort all within 20 minute drive Cheddar is an ideal central starting point.
In the winter month of November the areas of Bridgewater,Burnham on sea, Weston super mare, North petherton, Shepton mallet, Wells and Glastonbury all hold there majestic carnivals which are highly regarded as the largest illuminated processions in the WORLD!! Lonleat Safari Park and House is only about an hour away, the city of Wells (the smallest in England) with its beautiful Gothic Cathedral and Bishops Palace with surrounding moat are just next door, home to the Diocese of Bath and Wells.
Glastonbury which used to be most famous for the legend of King Arthur which says he was buried in the once majestic Abbey, and Glastonbury Tor is know as being one of the most spiritual sites in the country, its pagan beliefs are still very much celebrated. It's a beautiful place to walk unwind and relax. Glastonbury is of course now most famous for its pop festival. The City of Bath famous for its Roman Baths, pump rooms and now with its modern purpose built Spa its a beautiful place to unwind and well worth a visit.

Cheddar now even offers its very own award winning brewery Cheddar Ales which is about a 4 minute drive away towards the village of Draycott where the famous Cheddar Strawberries are grown.
