Description from manager

Description

Maison Du Jardin dates back to the late 15th century. It is designed in the style of a "Classic Fortified Manor". Local legend states that the main tower was once taller, however during the French Revolution it was reduced.

The property is enclosed and walled, which allows for extra privacy. There is a wonderful large saltwater lap pool, with new high end sun chaises.

The Guest house or original Dovecot is comfortable and independent with its own kitchen and bathroom, yet romantic with its lofty bedroom. Next to the "Dovecot" is a "bunkroom", small and private room for a single guest who likes to "do their own thing". The bunk room has its own bathroom.

The main house is comfortable and elegant. Most furnishings are from the 18th century. Many furnishings are brand new and very comfortable. The Kitchen with AGA stove allows you to fine tune your French cooking skills! The Kitchen has a large solid oak dining table.

All spaces are uncluttered and have wonderful views of the surrounding fields. The house, because of its ancient construction, stays comfortable and cool day and night. This property allows its guests to experience living in a time that has long past with all modern comforts and conveniences.

Tranquillity, fragrance and sun will rejuvenate you very quickly at Maison Du Jardin. The enclosed/walled estate allows for guests to dine alfresco, lounge in the lawn on comfortable Hugonet furniture, play a game of Badminton, work on a project in the pavilion or sunbathe next to the saltwater lap pool.

Morning visits to the local bakery will ensure you will have buttery croissants in the morning with your French pressed coffee. Morning laps in the pool may be rewarded with a large French Provincial Lunch later. There are plenty of places to take a nap either outside or back in your room.

What Oliver loves…

- Quiet countryside, great pool.
- Interiors and Exterior are sophisticated and elegant.
- Excellent location to authentic tourist destinations.

What you should know…

- Doors are a little low (15th Century).
- New rail (Bordeaux) line is in view.

The main floor of the Chateau has the large eat in kitchen, large formal dining room with fireplace, wonderful 18th French china cabinet and Philippe Hurel dining table. The space is elegant and comfortable.

The windows on each side of the room allows for a aromatic breeze of the countryside. The main hall with a WC under the limestone stair case. The drawing room has a fireplace as well and a 18th century Portuguese cabinet, there is a comfortable modern goose down sofa, small writing desk is placed in front of a window, two period reproduction chairs with Silk upholstery sets the stage as comfortable yet elegant.

To the left is a very authentic 15th century door, which leads to the TV room. Here you will find a small English sofa and leather ottoman for your feet, while you watch for any important news. There are also books on gardens and travel on the book shelves, just in case watching TV would bring you out of your relaxed mode! Back in the drawing room on the right side is another door which leads you to the small chapel (being currently used as a main entrance), this room with its original chequered floor, is quiet and bright.

Upstairs, there are two "monumental" bedrooms and one small bedroom. The first bedroom has its own fireplace, silk upholstered bed, reproduction French Bergere chairs with silk velvet upholstery and Fortuny bolster pillows. There is a dresser and wardrobe, wonderful silver leaf mirror and the views are spectacular. There is a bathroom next to this room, with a shower, pedestal sink and toilet. The other monumental guest room has a large four posted canopy bed, two comfortable reading chairs, small settee, dresser and wardrobe.

Adjacent to this room is the smaller bedroom with a hand carved sleigh bed, writing desk and shelves. There is a small hall which connects these two room, that has the shared bathroom. This full bathroom has a claw and ball footed tub, toilet and pedestal sink.

The Dovecot (guest house) is independent to the main house and allows for a guest to do what they wish. The house has its own kitchen with stove, oven and small refrigerator, small dressing area and bathroom with shower.

The loft bedroom with its hand finished iron bed, two bergere chairs, small dresser, has wonderful small windows on every wall which allows for you to peak out at the fields or inner court yard of the estate.

The adjacent "bunkroom" has another single hand carved bed, comfortable English arm chair, small dresser and modern bathroom with shower. The room has a front porch for relaxing and sipping a glass of wine.

On the same side as the bunkroom and dovecot is the pavilion, in this space we placed a large table, bench and chairs, there is a étagère with the badminton set, a couple of pool accessories. The space covered and has a pleasant breeze all day.

Location description from manager

The Nouvelle-Aquitaine region

The closest village is Saint Gervais les trios Clochers, Here you will find a butcher, pastry shop, hairdresser, post, tabac and small grocery market.

There are many other towns and villages within a short 8km distance from the Maison. One favorite is Richelieu, where there is a small hotel, many restaurants, a flower shop and huge historical importance.

Chinon is about 23km away. This small provincial town has a wealth of shopping, dining and historical interests.
